The heroine:Peren - her fiancé of one day suddenly disappeared last year and all her friends as well as his parents think he got cold feet and ran but will come back any time. Perren knows he is dead and is grieving alone. She was attacked by by shifters when she was 10 and everyone around her was killed. Though she didn’t know what it was that attacked her.
The Hero(es):Captain Lukian Vlakhusha - Captain of the Immortal Ops and King of the shifters in the Northern Hemisphere. His team gets a kill order on Peren, but he feels ambivalent about the order after seeing her picture.
The Story: Lukian and his team go after the subject of their Kill order and when he sees her, he wants to protect her rather than eliminate her and his buddy Roi has the same feeling about Perren’s best friend Missy.
The story was good but seemed unfinished and a bit rushed. I liked the storyline about Peren being attacked when she was just 10. There were a lot of starts to romances (that I am sure will be in the next few books), which I can’t stand. When there is a series where each book is about a different romance, I like the romance to start in the book that is about that couple, not in prior books, but maybe that is just personal preference because this happens a lot in romance series.
Also, Peren seems to have a lot more to learn and I kind of wanted that all to happen in this book, I hope it happens in later books, but I wish it would have been mostly in this book. I will definitely be reading more to find out what happens with this entire group of people.
This was told mostly from Lukians POV and though I like dual POV, I did like that it was mainly in the Hero’s POV rather than the Heroine, since most books are largely in the heroines. I liked the narrator’s voice and the fact that it was deep and commanding, though I am taking a point off the narration because all the men in the book didn’t have different inflections or accents so it was hard to tell sometimes who was talking.
Lukien and Peren 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✨ It may be short but its still intriguing, fun and exciting. Its easy to read and you'll be hooked easily to the story.. It has great characters, well developed and it has multiple POV 😍
This is the first book I read from Mandy Roth and now I can't wait to read more 😊🤗 I would recommend this book to any readers that loves paranormal romances. 👍

Started off fast paced and really interesting with bits of humor that helped you connect with the characters. Then, between 30 & 40 percent I noticed the pace started to slow down. There was still humor. And I was still intrigued by the story line and the characters. But by 50% the repetitiveness was getting on my nerves.
"Now wasn’t the time to be lusting after the hunk who had saved her life." was repeated so many times by the end of the book I wanted to slap the characters and the author upside the head. And that is just one example of the repetition.
To add insult to injury, the story became jumpy and the editing went downhill.
At 56% there is a sex scene that is so jumpy and oddly worded it is absolutely Cringe worthy. It starts off good. But during this scene the characters positions jump without any fluidity. That is the least of the problems with this scene. Some of the wording is very off putting. This scene goes on for some time, and I will give credit to the good bits, but there are a lot of areas that needed massive improvement! I Can NOT say it was romantic, nor was it erotic. It was Odd & Awkward.
What a strange book. It has a lot of really good qualities, but it's like numerous people wrote it. Some of which should not be writing at all! When the story was good, it was really good. But when it was bad, it was horrendously bad.
Either way, I have the other stories on my kindle. I got the bundle after I got this one in some deal or other. I am intrigued enough that I will read the 2nd book in the future. Sometimes the 1st book in a series has a lot of problems but shows possibilities. Then you read the 2nd book and it really takes off. I hope that is the case here. The good parts of this story has me hoping the rest of the series was taken more seriously by the author. It would really be a shame if that is not the case. There is clearly talent here.
This was an allromance.com freebie for their 12 days of Christmas. It was a short book, my version had 100 pages.
I liked it, I didn't like it, I'm kind of ambivalent.
Basically, it's about these genetically enhanced were creatures that form an Ops team. At times it was exciting, at times a little silly and way too predictable.
But for free, it was a good diversion for a few hours.
Peren lay there and soaked in Roi's words. Vampires, Fae, shifters, demons? Every fiber of her being wanted to protest, but she knew what he was saying was the truth. Hearing it said aloud was hard. She closed her eyes and took a minute to try to accept the information. "You're a werewolf?" she asked awkwardly, unsure if she really wanted to hear him answer that. "I can turn into a wolf, if that's what you mean. And before you ask, yes, I can lick my own balls when in shifted form."
This had it's moments, but overall it was pretty underwhelming. Everything was a little too convenient, and that usually doesn't bother me, but for whatever reason, it didn't work here. Peren was all over the place, wolves attacked her as a kid and she was terrified of them, then she just wasn't. She was mourning her missing fiancé, then she was over it. She's bumbling around in the woods, then she was using supernatural DNA she doesn't know she has to effectively run away. All of it is easily explained away, but it doesn't seem genuine. I'm usually all for the "you're my mate/you have powers you don't know about/it's fate and that's why" explanation, but I'm just not buying it here. I had the same problem with Lukian, the big, bad, alpha, king wolf. He was supposed to be this badass, but it didn't come off that way. He's supposed to have all the skills of a great hunter, and when he does sense danger he brushes it off as nothing and fucks Peren instead. The story was a nice distraction for the past two days, but I doubt I'll remember anything about it by tomorrow. I actually enjoyed the side characters more than these two. Though I kind of hated the little arc about Melanie and Lance, not loving that little plot device to set up her future book. On the other hand, I would actually very much like to read Roi and Missy's book, they might have been my favorite two characters out of the bunch, but I absolutely won't. Maybe if the whole lot of them goes to KU. But at an average of $5 a pop, it is most likely this is where me and the Immortal Ops guys part ways. Too bad, but oh well. And to end on a positive note, I'll leave you with the few good parts. Maybe spoilers, but not really…
Ordinary, my ass! she thought, shaking her head, her focus on his backside. Ordinary, everyday citizens didn't run around carrying military-issue handguns with them. Nope, Lukian was definitely hiding something. Reaching back, he took hold of her arm with one hand and heat raced over her flesh. She gasped, the sensation that he was composed solely of static energy rushing through her for the briefest of moments. It faded, but the draw to him didn't. That only strengthened. She tensed but allowed him to move her back gradually. His hand brushed over her right breast in the process and her nipples hardened instantaneously. Without thought, she touched his muscular arm. He flexed under the weight of her fingers. Typical male reaction. He inched his hand farther around her, pressing her to his back while his hand rested firmly on her backside. The tighter the grip on her ass got, the more damp her inner thighs became. Now is not the time to be thinking of banging the hot guy. Now is the time to think about surviving. She did her best to shake the naughty thoughts from her head. They left, just in time to be replaced by thoughts of death and destruction as more howls followed. She almost wanted the horny thoughts back instead.
~
She reached back, her hand going to his groin. He sucked in his breath and was afraid to move when she grabbed hold of his cock. Don't move, don't make a sound, maybe you won't wake her…don't - oh! She began to stroke him through his pants. He tried to pull her hand from him, but she wasn't having anything to do with it. She was a hell of a lot stronger than she should be. "Peren," he whispered softly. "Baby, wake up. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but can you let go of my cock?"
~
Her eyes widened as he seemed to grow larger by the second. His length was impressive, but that wasn't what made her doubt if she could handle him. It was his girth. She'd never dreamt they came in that size. How the hell does he walk and not fall forward from the strain of that? She watched as a tiny smirk came over Lukian's face.

"How about Chinese takeout in honor of Missy?" Peren lowered her head, unable to look at the mess Roi just talked himself into. Without looking up, Peren nodded, already knowing what was coming as she rubbed her temples. Her friend was going to go off on the man. Missy choked out a snort. "Why would Chinese food honor me? I'm half-Vietnamese, dickhead." Wilson cracked up, laughing so hard he squeaked, nearly falling from his chair. A tall blonde with off-putting amber eyes stepped into the room. He'd been scarce at the safe house, and the few interactions Peren had had with him, he'd been quiet and reserved. He seemed so somber and serious that Peren wasn't sure what to expect. As he raised a plastic weapon and fired directly at Wilson, leaving a bright orange suction cup dart stuck to Wilson's forehead, Peren smiled wide. Wilson yanked the dart off and threw it at the man. "Jon, isn't that getting old?" "Not even a little," said the man, a Southern accent showing through. Lance high-fived Jon. "Nice. I told you it was fun. That has been the best four-dollar purchase I've ever made." Missy looked Roi up and down, ignoring the other men's playfulness. "You're still a pig's asshole." Roi flashed a bad-boy grin and took off for the kitchen again. "Ten bucks says he's trying to find a menu with Vietnamese cuisine featured on it," said Wilson, shaking his head. Lance and Jon pulled their wallets out. Lukian growled and then the men put their money away. Lukian glanced at Missy. "My apologies for Roi." "It's not your fault he's annoying." Missy put her hand out to Jon and motioned with her fingers for him to surrender the dart gun. He did and then armed her with darts as well. Lance made a move to assist her with loading it, but she shook her head. "I've got it. Thanks." Roi returned with another menu in hand. "How about pizza?" Missy took aim, fired, and scored a direct hit to his groin before reloading and then shooting Roi right between the eyes. Neither dart stuck, but the one between the eyes left a mark for a moment. Everyone, including Lukian, laughed. Wilson leaned and gazed up at Missy. "If you were aiming for his brains, you got them with your first shot." "Oh, I know," replied Missy with a wink. Roi bent, picking up the darts with a groan. He handed them to Missy. "Are you going to kiss my boo-boos now?" She glanced at Peren. "I might have to kill this one." "She's a touch nicer when she's been fed," offered Peren apologetically to Roi.
I've had a run of books lately that I don't dislike exactly but which I feel like there's something missing from. I can't even pinpoint what I feel is missing. I just get to the end of the book and start looking around like a piece of the puzzle was left on the floor and the picture isn't quite complete without it.
Here's the thing, I know that the first book in a series doesn't tie up all the loose ends. You wouldn't want it to or the rest of the series would be pretty damn boring. I know that good backstory should be doled out slowly so you don't get hit with information overload. I'm not denying either of those things at all. But I also think that you should feel like the information given and the ends that were tied up completed enough of a loop to keep you happy while you edge toward more answers.
Although the main storyline with Lukian and Peren was tied up (as in the mating and claiming and what have you), I feel like we barely skimmed on the surface and never got more than our toes wet. The secondary characters, who have entire books devoted to them in the series, didn't feel like they had much depth. You never got to know them as more than just background noise.
I'm not sure if I really like this book. It's a shame, too, because I've enjoyed several other series by this author. I just never really connected to what was going on in this one.
I liked Lukian's character. He was a tough macho man but also gentle when it came to Peren. The lengths he goes to in order to protect her is amazing. Peren is a great character. I like how we got to learn a little about her dad. I did not expect her blind date to be Ben....the one who attacked her. I am enjoying learning about this fantasy world. These books are short and sweet. There is absolutely no filler in them which makes them a nice read.
Yikes you can tell it's a first book. Has a germ of interesting premise but it was done better in other series like "Breeds" or "Shadow Hunters" or that one with the neutral hospital ground and all the demons? Reading book 2 as it came in the free bundle and Missy was interesting; shame the author's setting her up to be destined for the man-whore.

Wasn't my first pick. I don't actually have a lot for I, not unread. The first pick was a bully romance. I can do bully reverse harem but not M/F. The opening pages were daunting with the series and the characters. So many characters. Then I realized the book was 138 pages. It was alright. Straight forward random team assignment to kill the FMC. Bit of a damsel thing going on. Gutted about Lance, although there was a flag raised, so no surprise there. Not sure about this one. Easy read but not one that stands out.

This book was too short for this kind of storyline, too fast for characters to fall in love considering half the time they were together was based on sex, the writing was confusing and didn't make sense or completely brushed over where it jumped in different actions to where you had to reread sentences to see if you had missed something. A lot of how did we get from here to here went on in my head and the lack of description was very noticeable. None of the characters are believable with the exception of Missy and Peren in the very, very, beginning before the wolf attack where her character then goes downhill. Everything went by way too fast and killed any potential for a good story with the primary focus on sex scenes, the back burner storyline, and the unbelievably naive women that were too stupid to take seriously.
Why would you take the time to introduce a character, only to kill them off by the end of the book? There wasn't even a need for his sacrifice, there was nothing potentially life threatening as she was supposedly like thirty different species and it was proven that she healed amazingly well. It just felt used as a ploy to garner some sympathy and attention with a heroic death. His death was the only thing that made me feel anything in this book and it was barely even acknowledged as if it was no big deal. This man that these men considered a brother and had known for years upon years, his loss of life is brushed under the rug, no buildup to his death, no real sorrow at his funeral, it's like it happened and it's over, done. His brothers all knew he was gonna die and they just accepted it! It disgusted me how they talked about him dying as if they were discussing the weather. That's how much he meant to them...
Another thing that bothered me was their ability to replace a mate with another like nothing. Why, if they are mates, are they allowed to feel things for other characters, that takes away from the feelings that are solely supposed to be with one person? On top of that, it takes away the unique bond between two people if it can easily be replaced by another. I don't understand where the author was going with this, what makes this love so special if they can just immediately carry on with someone else? Several things can happen in this world and it's confusing as well as degrading to characters and relationships. For example if one dies, they could move on with another which is completely realistic given that feelings develop over time and hesitantly allow to happen because of guilt of loving someone else not just forgetting about them the next day. I can see that happening. Another was to sacrifice one's own happiness to take care of another's chosen mate if they had died in order to protect the female from unwanted advances. The weirdest was that one could mistake a mate/bond if they had the blood of the real mate running through their veins and causing confusion. There was just too much "if this happened...then they'd be with this person..."
The author took it to the extreme and made their behavior and thinking more like wild animals in the jungle. If that's the case then they should have just been 100% full form beast instead of disguising themselves in human skin. I just found it hard to believe that we're supposed to be rooting for this particular couple when they could easily find someone else that could make them just as happy. It makes no sense to call them a mate when they could be anyone and they won't be devastated upon their death. One part in Green's pov said that Lance could have fallen in love with Melanie had he chosen not to sacrifice himself. Lance then actually asked him to step up to take care of her after he died showing no fear at all that he was giving his life up for nothing in my opinion.
This whole story was completely screwed up in I don't know how many ways and I can't imagine how this came about to being published. Did we all read the same book? Was there a rewrite I missed? The copy I read seemed like an outlined rough draft to connect major plot points with all the additional content to be added later on. I don't understand where all the high reviews are coming from. I'm not sure if I want to torture myself by reading the rest of the books or just skip them and go straight to the book I did want to read and hope I'm not wasting my time with the spinoff series. I'm honestly really confused at what I've just read and the ratings it's been given. This felt like a book on Wattpad written by an amateur teenager and I find it hard to believe that people would pay money for this if this is what's to come in the rest of the series, sorry, but even $0.99 is overcharging for the effort put in to this.
This fast hot little number is well worth the read as it introduces you to a new type of special ops that are immortal, only these few selected agents have DNA enhancements from different species added to their human DNA with the exception of one full blooded Lycan to lead the team. With the species of the were-wolf, were-panther, and were-rat, the team makes a bad azzz team taking out crime on all their missions.
The author does a great job with all the characters connections between each other, making them a tight net team with brotherly love and loyalty through thick and thin as brothers in arms. So when the mission is set to take out a female there is no second guessing about the job – that is until Luke gets a look at the photo of the target and a weird feeling comes over him. Once he meets and has his target “Peren” in site, the connection becomes undeniable stronger and realization hits him hard as he realizes he can’t complete his mission for he has found his mate.
The story is beautifully told as the mission becomes complicated and the team tries to figure out why the person who hired their team wants her dead, especially after they figure out that she is more than human. Peren, a normal weird person she believes she has always been gets an eye awakening discovery when she discovers she has the whole mixture of all the species of the paranormal word enhanced into her own DNA making her not human and finding herself uncontrollably attracted to the Lycan as her wolf trait heeds to the mating cycle.
The erotic scenes between Luke and Peren are passionately wild as they ravage each other fiercely. With great slamming of a huge and expanding cock as the wolf surfaces, Luke takes her every way imaginable to include by anal and lots of long tongue lashing in her tight cunt and all over her body. Peren’s dormant DNA surfaces like wild fire as she releases her wolf, vampire, fairy, and demon power towards her climax and marks Luke as he marks her in a biting frenzy while releasing his jetting seed in her fertile wound claiming her as his eternal mate/wife/queen of the were's.
The suspense, the drama, the fighting action, and the hot erotic scenes combined make this an awesome book to read and will keep you glued to the page. Awesome start to the beginning of the series, I look forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens to each team member as they meet each mission head on.
I'm very glad this book was a freebie. It wasn't the story I minded so much, but I did think the writing lacked finesse. It seemed disjointed and unbelievable in some parts, and I found myself constantly asking "wtf?" At one point in the story, there is an intruder in the house, the father is missing and they sense danger but then they stop off to have sex... twice! At another point, the heroine is in trouble and being attacked and the hero stops to read a journal. Seriously???
Just all right. Formulaic and too similar to other series like this. If you are just starting out reading erotica this might be perfect for you but I just thought the characters needed more depth and the story more angst. This story did not pull on my emotions.
Shifter books are still new to me, but I am quite enjoying them. In this series we meet Peren, a woman who is all sorts of mixes; shifter, human, vampire… We learn that she has had quite the upbringing. She is a fighter that’s for sure as she escaped an attach from a werewolf when she was just ten years old. Now there is a hit on her and they will try all they can to kill her. Enter Lukian. He is known as the king of his kind. He works with the ops team and they are elite, supernatural, special operations team. So, when they are called in to take Peren out it should have been an easy job. But nothing is at it seems when Lukian’s inner animal is trying to claim Peren as his. We get to see Peren start to process new information about herself and watch as she grows with the knowledge received. Even though the two main main characters are great, my favorite so far must be Roi. He is park of Lukian’s team and has a very quick tongue. He is a ladie’s man and has a hard time understanding that a woman wouldn’t want him. He is laugh aloud funny at times.

Love the Immortal Ops series. This was a fast moving book that has great characters and good plot. Immortal Ops Team Captain Lukian Vlakhusha and his newest target Peren ended up falling hard and fast for each other. What makes this such an emotional read is that Luke was all about the mission- get in, take out the target and get out until he sees her- Peren. Then he was all about Peren- wanting her, needing her, owning her, mating her. Everything about the mission goes to the waste side. Peren has always thought she was human until she finds out she isn’t when Luke comes into her life and that’s part of this story –of what and who she really is. The erotic and fiery nature of this story combined with the emotional scenes and the suspenseful tale and the action parts will get your blood going. I highly loved this book , the supporting cast of characters and especially the MC of this book. I cannot wait for more IO books.
My rating: 4.5 stars **** **I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review***
Too rushed and felt that it was just a big mess. It didn't have a good flow throughout the book and it really got on my nerves.
It was just so....fake. I know it's fiction so of course it's not real, but even in fantasy there has to be a certain level of realism.
Or if it's going to reach "absurdity"...you need to invest in it fully and make it believable...or at least make the characters believable. There was a real lack of depth in any of them.
There was just so much "stuff" all thrown into together that at one point I found myself literally gritting my teeth as I forced my way through it.
I can't even say the concept was good because of the jumble of "Here let's throw this situation in and make it super complicated by doing this and this and this and a little of that...and this."
If I didn't need this for a reading challenge I'm doing in a Goodreads group, I wouldn't have finished this. Even though it was only 99 cents, it still falls under a much regrettable buy.
I did not like Lukian. He said that he didn't like it when he slept with women and they got "strings of attachment". Well dipshit, then be upfront or better yet, keep it in your pants. Don't lead them on by screwing them.
Lukian's quote: "He didn't have time to grovel after some dame in a skirt. He had missions to worry about. Not pussy. That came easy enough." At only 22 pages in, I already detested hero.
I decided to read reviews on the next book in the series to see if should give this book a chance. I found more negativity. Apparently the next hero is big time man whore and loves it. He whores around for years and then when he meets his mate, he calls her a whore because she is not a virgin. She burns hot and cold, is bipolar, and easily forgives his assholeness. DNF this book and not continuing series
This was a fantastic read. I read it in less than 8 hours. I loved Luke and Peren. They fall hard and fast for each other. I love a whirlwind love story and this one hit the spot. I would have liked to see a little more at the end with them...I am hoping we get to see them as a couple in future books. The world she laid out in this first installment of the Immortal Ops series seems very exciting and I can't wait to get to know the rest of the characters. The sex scenes were full of yum too! I'll definitely be reading more from Mandy.
I first read this book, probably around a decade ago, and I rated it four stars. I have now reread it a couple times since, and I would definitely say it’s more of a five star read. It’s on the shorter side, but it’s still a rich story. I enjoy figuring out what’s going to happen, because all the books are connected! I love that even though they’re standalones when it comes to the couples, the story keeps building. There’s also just something about fated mates and strong women going up against their alpha male mates that I absolutely adore adore.
This book was a poorly written attempt at being Kresley Cole or Gena Showalter. The world building lacked depth, the characters lacked depth, and I found myself skipping over sections just to see if the story would redeem itself.
It's a story about shifters, and not ONCE did the hero shift. If he did, it was lost in the poor writing.
The romance was weak, the sex was meh, and the story was much too short to be what Ms. Roth was trying to make it.
Wow, and not particularly in a good way. Some of this story was pretty good and some of it was a cheese-fest. The last line of the story actually had me rolling my eyes. I'm honestly not sure if I liked it or not.
When someone says shifter paranormal romance you get a pretty good idea of what you are going to get and that is what you get here, you get it in a good kind of a way. All of the elements of a paranormal romance are present, along with some cliches, but you get a story that is capably written, a story with well rounded characters you care about and a story that makes you keep on reading until you're done...
... and then you immediately hop on Amazon and purchase the rest of the series.
Yes, I am serious, I was that engrossed in this book and mind you I have been reading this genre for some two decades now so I have been through all of the ups and downs and still found so many positive things about this book. So let's start.
The story
The summary is already provided so I will just add onto that. Even though the story is about Lukian and Peren, it is actually far more than that. This story includes two of Peren's best friends that are major characters in their own right, and it involves Lukian's team, five other well developed individuals who I am sure will all get their own book and their own story. This is a good book for the worldbuilding and for introducing the readers into this shifter & the rest of the paranormal creatures universe that works logically and so far I can buy into it. I wasn't taken out of the world at any point, all of the paranormal stuff made sense in this universe and the characters reacted like they should according to their personalities, abilities and their position in this universe. The story flows great, there is no point where the story is dragging, it all goes as it should to keep us fully invested. The dialogue is smart and funny and at times I see a lot of my own way of talking when it came to sarcastic remarks so that made me laugh extra hard.
The characters
The characters are well developed, well rounded and act based on reason and logic, just like proper characters should act. Every of the almost dozen characters (including the villains) got a good introduction and enough time to stand on their own and not just be 'the main character's best friend who exists solely for the main character'. They all had their own pasts, their own lives, their own experiences and their own aspirations and fears. They feel real and that is why we get so invested into their lives and into this story.
The main characters, Lukian and Peren are the main couple of the story and I like how strong they both are and how well they fit together. Lukian is a leader and a hardass and a tough leader but also realises the importance of his feelings and accepts them and acts upon them even though the circumstances are far from ideal. Peren has a very complicated story about how she was conceived and what happened to her other mother later on and what exactly she is that I believe we will read more about it in other stories because it just didn't fit in this story fully, which is understandable, these things take setup and time.
I loved the first best friend character who is Missy and I am looking forward to it reading about her in the second book. Her sarcasm is so similar to mine that I feel a kindred soul there.
Faults
There are only two things I consider as faults in this book.
The first one being the short amount of time it all happens in. Not just that the whole book takes place in a short amount of time but the fact that the two main characters go from never knowing each other to proposing in the span of two weeks. And yes, I understand that they marked each other and that are essentially already forever together but they could have at least taken time to get to know each other more and so their friends and family have time to get to know each other as well before they put a ring on it.
The other thing is Lance (if I am not remembering the name wrong), the Nordic God as he was called. I do not understand his character at all. It was hinted that he was a troubled soul. He slept with the third best friend and turned whilst doing it and then did not even try to talk to that woman about it. Then he was somehow foreseeing his death without any logic behind it and asked a friend to look after that woman he seemingly had no other interest in than a one night stand. I wish he was the one who was developed more so that his actions made sense and more of an impact to the story.
Conclusion
One of the better shifter paranormal romances I have read, especially in the last few years. It has great action, suspense, mystery, plotting, romance and sex. The story goes fast so you enjoy every single page, the characters are well developed and believable and I absolutely enjoyed every single moment and was left craving for more of this universe. Definitely recommended to all of the paranormal romance lovers.

Loved this read. The mystery was started in the beginning. You got hot alpha males, add thus great story teller and did I mention the sex. Well ,you just have to read it.
