About the author

Christopher Pike is the pseudonym of Kevin McFadden. He is a bestselling author of young adult and children's fiction who specializes in the thriller genre.

McFadden was born in New York but grew up in California where he stills lives in today. A college drop-out, he did factory work, painted houses and programmed computers before becoming a recognized author. Initially unsuccessful when he set out to write science fiction and adult mystery, it was not until his work caught the attention of an editor who suggested he write a teen thriller that he became a hit. The result was Slumber Party (1985), a book about a group of teenagers who run into bizarre and violent events during a ski weekend. After that he wrote Weekend and Chain Letter. All three books went on to become bestsellers.

Amazing. Honestly I can't really get very detailed with this review as far as details because I read it awhile ago, but I will say this. It definately was way more entertaining then I thought it would be.

A very spiritual book I want to say. About the afterlife and what happens after death. Your soul. What it means to die and values on the belief that when you "die" your never really gone that your soul is immortal. It kind of reminded me of The Immortal series ALOT, but condensed into one book. That and it was more realistic, no making tuliups appear out of thin air or unrealistic death defying romances either.

I enjoyed this book quite a lot which means its still sitting on my shelf. That says something because there the only ones that I could read again in the top 50. It was just different, and it was a nice fresh of air from the standard books I was reading. Vampire/werewolf love stories, faeries, demon & angels get kinda old after awhile. It touched me on a personal level.

If your looking for something more on the spiritual/mystery side, pick it up. You won't be dissapointed. It was an amazing journey.

I don't really like reviewing a book that contains 3 books in the one.

I will try to rate the books seperately. I really enjoyed Remember Me. I would give that one 4 stars. Reading it, I was sure that I had found an author that I would enjoy reading more books written by him. I was wrong. I read The Return and was so disappointed. It was a forced read. The book jumped around so much and the story didn't interest me. I would give that one a 1 star. I started reading The Last Story in hopes that it would be like the first one in the series. I was disappointed again and decided to stop reading after trying about 100 pages. I would rate that one a 1 star also. That brought down my overall rating for the books to 2 stars. I think that is being generous.

I was really disappointed with this book as a whole. Reading the discription, I had high hopes; the plot sounded really interresting. I thought it started off ok, when the accident first happened and the evidence and crime scene were being reviewed, but it just went downhill for me as it went on. I thought there was way too much written about how Shari couldn't fly or walk through walls, etc. That wasn't really all that important of a topic to dwell on as much as I felt the author did. I felt the same about the dialogue on crossing over. I really had to push myself to get through it. Touching on the topics would have been fine, but they were discussed way more than was necessary, making it drawn out and rather boring. I wish the author would have spent less time on those scenes and wrote more about the individual suspsects and looking into each one, the accident details, and made that the real "meat" of the storyline. (ex. I didn't need to read page after page on how Shari had to wait until someone came home and opened the front door to allow her to get inside a house and then how when she was leaving she had to look around for a open window because the door was now closed...)

Then at the end of the book in just a few pages, there's a whole bunch of information, including life changing info about the main characters and the solving of the crime just thrown at the reader, all is forgiven, and then the book ends.

In theory, the individual details could have made Remember Me a really good book. The idea was good, but it wasn't presented very well at all. It seemed the author got almost sidetracked from what I would have liked to be the focus. And the way the ending was rushed after all of the unnecessary content in the middle of the book, left me thinking "what the heck?" The important details were rushed or just not really discussed at all and things that had barely any effect on the actual storyline as a whole were talked about to death.

And The Return can be described as nothing more than completely cheesy. It was a VERY forced read consisting of a bunch of confusing jumping around and awkward dialogue.

Needless to say, I didn't even bother with The Last Story.

(REMEMBER ME #1)

Another amazing book about the ETHEREAL. :-)

Talk about the unworldly, the spiritual and the heavenly; add to these the thrill, the mystery and the supernatural, a touch of humor, a little bit of romance, and a little more of life... or DEATH. This book has it all in balanced proportions - Very purely crafted and written to hook the reader's attention until the very end.

The author was able to weave a fantastic story of an eighteen-year-old girl and her life after death, as she struggles to remain earthbound in order to solve the mystery of her unexpected death and to smoothen things out for her loved ones - Gave me goosebumps and cold chills running through my spine in a creepy and exciting way. Well, lost souls you may call them, but it's quite fun to read something different rather than the cliche stories of vampires and werewolves. :p

Pike has a way with words. The characters are well-defined and developed. The lines easily convey the feeling and the mood of every scene, making me picture the images every now and then, and even leaving traces of such images lingering at the back of my mind after putting the book down. The chapters are not so short and not so long, just enough. The story itself is unpredictable - you will keep guessing over what happens next and be caught off-guard with what you find out and still not be disappointed. It's what makes it exceptional, the turn of events, I mean. You think with the book. And with that, you feel compelled to finish everything in one reading.

Sadly, I realized I just can't finish this omnibus. I really enjoyed the first book, REMEMBER ME. I thought it was clever and I enjoyed how it avoided being overtly religious even though it was dealing with ghosts and the afterlife. The second book was just...I can't finish it. I feel like I'm reading a New Age recruitment pamphlet and the characters are bland.

I have to put this one aside.

Bummer. I really liked the first one.

Honestly, Don't Fear the Reaper by Michelle Muto handled the afterlife much better without becoming too preachy about any particular religion.

Remember me is a sad book. But also a happy one. A young girl is murdered, and after death she wonders the world trying to find out who killed her, and why. Well, jealousy, and betrayal rounds the edges of this book. As I said before Christopher Pike knows how to write a good book. I love Remember me.

Have you ever wanted a book were the main character is dead? Well if you do this book is wright for you!! It is about a 15, 16 year old girl that dies at a birthday party. But how did she die? Was it suiside? Was it murder? It's up to you and Shari (main character) to find the mistery character!!!

I'm really disappointed in this book. It's not that I didn't like it, it's that there was so much wasted potential.

In a book, the first chapter should set the plot up nicely, get the readers hooked. This book did not have that. It's not like it was slow, it's that the plot just wasn't going anywhere. It was so slow, and Shari was annoying.

Shari would constantly say that she was just so pretty, so memorable, so popular, and even at her funeral, she complained that nobody came even though she was all that. Well, if you're acting like that, of course, nobody is going to come. Not to mention that Shari and Jo, Shari's best friend, were constantly making rude nicknames for everyone.

I kept reading on, wanting to see if it would get better, but if a book doesn't get better 150 or so pages in, I doubt it would get better, or at least until the very end. And I don't want to read a book that's going nowhere.

What really did it in for me is that it just started getting stupid. After Shari died, she met up with another deceased student and her friend, Peter. Peter started talking about how Shari needs to go into the light, away from the mortal plane and whatnot. And Shari started asking about a god, and Peter was giving bullshit answers that just bothered me.

I also didn't like the fact that it was three books in one. I don't understand why authors do that, especially lesser-known authors. I had a book like this, but it was the The Chronicles of Narnia, which makes sense. I would have preferred it to be three individual books rather than one huge book.

I read some reviews last night, and apparently, everything all goes downhill from here as well. The second and third books seem like forced reads, and I don't want to put myself through that. I'd rather finish a book that I will enjoy than force myself to read a book all the way through for a review.

What I Did Like:
+The mystery in the first book is solid! We get the timeline, the map, and the clues. It’s fascinating and wraps you right up. Plus, the way the first book ends is perfect. Enough answers to be satisfied but still with lingering questions.
+Shari isn’t entirely likable. I say this as a positive because perfect characters can’t learn lessons and grow. Shari having flaws and being imperfect is part of her charm, most of the time.
+The exploration of the meaning of life, purpose, and spirituality are a sort of unexpected surprise in this trilogy. I appreciated this take.

Who Should Read This One:
-Thriller or paranormal fans will appreciate book 1.

Remember Me by itself would be 4 stars. As a stand alone this one appeals to paranormal thriller fans or mystery readers. It’s YA but satisfyingly written to be unique and interesting. The sequels are 2 stars, with problems in character consistency. I compromised on the overall rating.

This mysteriously gripping novel Remember Me is yet another Christopher Pike classic. The book holds your attention as it is told from the main character, Shari Cooper's, point of view. After waking up dead and entering the afterlife, Shari Cooper sets out on a quest to find her killer with the reader right by her side. It is intriguing to see how Shari's story is uncovered since we only know as much as she does. Personally, I enjoy the the fact that the main character is the narrator because it allows us to get insight on her thoughts and feelings. With Shari we discover a lot of hidden aspects of her life, such as what people in her life really felt and who her true friends really were. The suspense in this novel is overwhelming since you don't know what to expect from anyone. Remember Me is a nail biting novel that keeps you wanting more. Pike's novel also widens your mind to the idea of the afterlife. You don't necessarily need to believe in after death, but the idea that Shari's wandering soul can see and hear everything that takes place is extremely interesting. Nonetheless the character's and plot alone, make the novel stand out since it is not a typical story where you have some information before hand.
However Remember Me does how have a few flaws. Although the suspense makes up majority of the novel, Pike takes quite a while to get to the point. This doesn't bore you but I feel as though there are some parts that are more important than others. For example, Pike adds alot of detail to how certain characters look and speak rather than trying to piece together the murder. Another downfall is that Pike is very repetitive throughout the novel. Even after one event is presented he later brings it back up and it isn't necessarily relevant.
In all, the positives for Remember Me out weigh the negatives. I would recommend this novel to anyone and especially to anyone that enjoys mystery novels. Especially if you are a Christopher Pike fan, this is a must read. This story is one that sticks with you since as the reader you feel apart of the story. The suspense is overwhelming but just enough to make you want to keep reading. The events are unpredictable along with numerous twists and turns. I've never read a novel like Remember Me, and it is personally one of my favourites. I would read it again and again. It gives you a different outlook on people and environment and makes you realize that things are not always what they seem.

Remember Me:

I just finished Remember Me and I was surprised. It wasn't what I expected at all. I was expecting it to be a little more creepy, and I probably was judging it solely on the cover. The cover looks creepy. Oh well, don't judge a book, right? Anyway, it ended up being a feel good book, in my opinion. I loved the story line between Peter and Shari. In fact I was disappointed when I finished the book and read the first paragraph of the next book and realized that Peter and Shari would not be returning for The Return (Remember Me book 2)

I liked the mystery part of this story, it got me. I didn't guess the killer. I had a bunch of scenarios running through my head, and none of them ended up being the right one.

The Return


OK, I was wrong, Shari and Peter WERE in this story too, in fact they were still the main characters. This story started out really interesting, but I thought that as it went on, I started losing interest. I wanted there to be more interaction between Jean and Lenny, and even when I read the last page, I wished there was more interaction. It didn't seem like there was much of a plot to this story.

The Last Story (spoiler alert)


Eh, after reading this story I felt like Christopher Pike should have stopped while he was ahead. I really enjoyed the first book, but I didn't enjoy the next two so much. I think they were meant to be inspiring, but they just made me uncomfortable. I didn't like how she treated Peter in the last book. Actually I didn't really like Shari very much in the last book. Also, I thought it was sort of boring. Especially the parts with the Yogi, I spaced out a couple of times during the chapter with him in it. I guess this just wasn't my kind of book. I also don't really know I felt about the ending... Poor Peter can finally walk again, and then she dies... again. I just wasn't feeling this book at all.

I have read Christopher Pike's books before, thanks to Roberta from Offbeat YA, and I am used to his strange / weird writing style. “Remember Me” follows the story of a 17 years old girl, Shari, who dies at a friend’s birthday party and comes back to life as a ghost. Now Shari is trying to find her murderer. This is not just a dark horror story, it is much more than that. Of course, as always, I cannot reveal a lot, but I assure you that there's more than meets the eye in this book. I don't know how Pike managed to create these wonderful characters, who are very flawed but in the same time very real. The plot twists come very naturally in this book, they're not there just to surprise you, they are there to teach you that's life sometimes is a huge plot twist. The beauty of this book is not the story, but how many elements are included there, such as drug addiction, adultery, cheating, depression, suicide, incest, dark magic and religion.
The Extra Element:
Christopher Pike is the extra element. He has such a unique writing style, that even if you didn't know that it was his book, you would guess it immediately.
Recommended to:
This book is recommended to everybody. I am extremely serious, this is not only for teenagers. Pike talks about a lot of dark matters, which adults can also enjoy. I know this is targeted to young adults, but everybody should read it. Even though horror/fantasy may not be your cup of tea, this book is much more than simply a ghost story. “Remember Me” doesn't focus that much on scaring you with the paranormal, as it focuses on scaring you with real happenings. Still, I have to warn you that the re are some scenes which can be quite scary. Pike is quite the master with his words, and some scenes can scare you, but that's all. It is worth it!

Book 1: Remeber Me
This book was my favourite out of all three! It was the best written and I loved trying to figure out who did it using my logic and I loved that Amanda was actually the Coopers daughter and Shari and her got switched at birth. It was interesting that Amanda killed her because she could have had a wonderful life with all the traveling and wonderful family. It would have been awkward to find out that your brother (Jimmy) is your boyfriend (between Jimmy and Amanda).
Book 2: The Return
My second favourite in this series. I loved that Shari returned as Jean and didn't realize until near the end. Then Lenny tried to kill her and he shot her in the leg. It was very suspenseful that she could possibly die the way she did at first. But when Lenny told her to jump she hung over the edge then he pushed her and at Shari's moment of despair he realized he was Peter. I loved this and happily she landed in the pool.
Book 3: The Last Story
I enjoyed that Jean/Shari was a writer, and even though this was my least favourite book in the collection I loved it. I was angry that Shari was cheating on Peter but it made the story so interesting. I loved when he tried to bury Shari alive then Peter walked out of his wheel chair and hit him on the head with the shovel and saved his first love and only love and he forgave her for cheating on him. Then later Jean/Shari died with her parents and Shari's mother felt a connection with her but didn't know what it was.

Shari Cooper dies at a party on top of a balcony. She wakes up in her own bed and realizes she's dead.She goes to her own funeral and runs into Peter, a boy who commitetd suicide. He teaches her how to do things and how to run from the shadow. In the end she saves her brother from his own sister.
In the second book Shari tells Lisa what to do and tell Jonathen (Shari's brother). Lisa writes a book about Shari's life after her death and publishes it, which wasn't suppose to be. Lenney (Lisa's boyfriend) trys to shoot her and she survives. Overall Lisa writes tons of books for Shari and becomes a famous author. Shari and Peter helps a girl drug addict.
In the third book Shari's book First to Die is being made into the movie. Shari is falling for the main star and hunk of the movie and kind of ingores Peter. After a while of feeling ingored Peter breaks up with Shari. The directer of the movie calls Shari and main character of the movie at midnight and wants them to meet him at the lake, they go together and the directer tries to kill them, but he is killed instead of Shari. The main character of the movie takes Shari to the graveyard, there she finds out that he killed the directer and is about to kill her. Peter comes to the rescue and tries to save her but instead Shari gets in the head with a shovel. In the end Shari Cooper dies ,for good.
This probably was not my favorite book. It was to dark and weird, I didn't like at very much

Remember Me 5 stars

I'm happy to give it 5 stars I really enjoyed this first story and the little shocker of a twist that happens towards the end. Such an easy read I found my way half way through with out knowing it. I'm really interested as to how the series continues as its seems so sewn up by the end of the first.

The Return 2.5 Stars

I really enjoyed Remember Me and thought the story was complete so why a sequel had to be written I don't know. I wish I had enjoyed this one as much, but sadly I didn't it got a little exciting towards the end but nothing to thrilling. The book seems to be taking on a very spiritual feel, we'll see what happens in The Last Story.

The Last Story 2.5 Stars

I don't really know what to say. The last 2 books became spiritual, but tried to keep an edge of thrill to them. It didn't really seem to go together. As soon as Roger Teller became a character I knew he was one of these 'Dark Wanderer's' and it frustrated me how dumb and naive Shari was when she'd already been told to watch out for them. Plus I didn't really like how you would be reading the story then she would start writing and you'd have to read some story she was writing and how were any of these story's helping the Hispanic population of LA.

The last 2 books just made me sad :( and I wasn't excited to see what happened next, just to finish.

We recently got this all-in-one trilogy at work and I picked it up because I remembered reading the first book as a "tween" and really liking it.

Well, I did like the first 1/3 on the re-read, which is the reason for the three stars. The first book is a murder mystery where the victim tracks down and busts her own killer with the help of a fellow spirit friend and a washed-up police detective. It was fast-pased, creepy, and kept me reading. It was just as good as I remembered. I hadn't read the other two books, but I figured if I liked the first one, I'd like them as well.

Wrong!

The rest of the trilogy went so sharply downhill from there it was as if the story was pushed from a third storey balcony (much like our heroine at the beginning of book 1). The story crawled along and, often, Pike's writing veered off into lengthy philosophical and/or spiritual tangents, making me wonder if he somehow missed his calling as a writer of fluffy, quasi-New Age self help books. Perhaps in attempt to make #2 and #3 more familiar with/intertesting to his readers, Pike attempted to swipe a page from Stephen King by including characters, places, and concepts from some of his other books. It worked for King. It did not work for Pike.

My recommendation: Read the first book in this trilogy. Skip the other two.

The first book was great. Some of the characters were likeable, almost human. However, the female characters were only semi-likeable... Okay I liked Shari but that may be just because she died. I loved Jimmy and Peter but Jo needed more of an emotional weight with the audience. The second book was where my view on the novels declined further. The audience completely lost insight on characters that played big roles in the first book, like Jo or Mrs. Parish. Sure they made appearances but if I were to spend the time of day stalking an old lady after my death, I'd at least pay her more than one visit when coming back to life. Then, we had this addition of the new age religion. It was really wierd, The Rishi managed to do nothing but annoy me and make me want to take a trip to Egypt to see the pyramids. That adds no value to the novel whatsoever. The third book annoyed me the most. Jimmy showed up in the book once...okay two or three times. But when you spend two novels talking about how much a character cares about another character, don't just have the character leave. (Ridiculous) My biggest piece with this book was how pivotal characters would disappear without any resolution. Okay, that's not true. I have a major question to ask everyone.

I originally bought this book because it sounded really good from the cover and it was really thick so i had plenty to read on the long plane ride. I again learned not to judge a book by its cover!
The first book( the book is 3 in 1), was pretty good, but the secound was dissappointing. For a young adult book it was kind of boring and it felt like the author was trying too hard. There were concepts that he was trying to make the reader grasp that were very contriversial and in some parts disturbing. The mystery and thrill from the book diminished in the secound book.
The third book was dissappointing also, it had less of a plot than the tsecound book and was more of a demented romancy kind of story. There was more of a story involving religion and re birth. Personally i really didnt like it and it was one of the worst books ive read.

This book definitely wasn't what I expected. When I picked it up, I was expecting what I see in any other young adult fantasy, a common plot with a mildly interesting climax and a satisfying ending to wrap it up. What I got was a book that took me deep into the philosophies of spirituality and belief in oneself. It got me thinking about some of the more deeper aspects of life and had me questioning things that I'd believed for my entire life. I felt at multiple times that this book wasn't my type of book, but not even at one point did I feel like putting it down. I kept reading until the very end and I was quite surprised when I found myself wanting more. This book was a different experience for me, a unique plot that will keep you guessing until the very end. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to take their inner reader on a journey.

I read these in my tween-to-teen years, I picked it up again just to see if they held up and I have to say I was impressed. No vampires, no werewolves, no clumsy pale lip-biting thinly veiled versions of biblical implications of female sexuality, just a strong female protagonist. The trilogy boasts strong metaphysical and spiritual themes and makes no apologies for main characters strength, weaknesses, sexuality, and sense of self. This cements Pike as one of my favorite authors.

The first book had some highs and lows. I liked the characters as a whole but the love interest is just weird to me, I feel like the author rushed into it a bit. I also didn't like what kind of abilities the author gave to the "ghosts." The Epilogue was disappointing to me too. The rest of the spiritual aspects and such were interesting though. The only thing that really kept me reading was the suspense and wanting to know who killed her. I'm not too excited about starting the second book.

Remember Me is a great book if you like mystery, gohst and on the edge of your seat type of books. This book was a great book cause i love mystery and this is a great mystery book. If you like trying to figure out crimes then this is a great book for you. You feel like you are acually there with Shari and helping her find out who killed her. It is kind of long but it is the best book I have read.

I am giving this massive piece of literature 3 stars. The first book was pretty good, but under no means I am reading the second or third. I like how the first ended, and I would hate that to be spoiled because the author wanted to continue on something that should not have been continued. Christopher Pike is an amazing author and I will continue reading his Thirst books.

Remember me was such a magnificent story. A definitely MUST READ especially if you're into what happens after death type of genre.
I have to say though that I enjoyed the first two books more than the third one. I feel that the first two were more spiritual and the third one relied more on sci-fi, but overall it was such a great book to read.
