Freedom from debt has almost nothing to do with how much a person earns or how much they know about finance. It all comes down to three basic get rid of the debt, learn to live below your means, and start investing sensibly. In Life or Debt, Johnson spells out exactly how to accomplish these goals in a step-by-step plan that covers the basics in a plan that takes seven days to implement— but will work for a lifetime.
Lots of good, interesting information in this book, especially if you have debt you're trying to figure out how to get rid of. I paid off everything I owed prior to reading it, and lots of the techniques in the book were pretty similar to what I did. My only complaints would be that the author toots his own horn pretty frequently, and a lot of the technology references are pretty outdated (hello dial-up internet! Does that actually still exist?). He also mentioned several times to track things in a physical notepad/notebook, which I'm sure is beneficial, but no mention of the Mint app/website or others like it (I'm not actually sure apps were a thing yet when the book was updated, let alone written!). Needless to say, if this book was given a total refresh to update for modern stuff, it would be awesome.
This book has good financial advice, especially in determining the future cost of money and what a purchase costs you in terms of hours worked. The author seems to jump around though, I would recommend reading about the first half of the book and then only reading the remain parts that are pertinent to you.
