Can we take a moment to appreciate how Mineta got Mike Wazowski'd on the cover? Kudos to the cover designer, you deserve a raise.

All of the stories were super cute and heartwarming. Only complaint was the promo video one was way too long and awkward.

“At the same time, somewhere in Bakugou’s mind was a quiet fear that Midoriya’s pure genuine spirit would collapse under it’s own weight some day, bringing it all crashing down.”

“Without so much as glancing at each other, the two boys [Bakugou and Midoriya] swung behind the beast and launched attacks at it’s back in unison.”

“‘Kacchan! Why’d you follow me?’
‘Cuz screw you!’ said Bakugou.”

“‘I said, shaddup! Nobody asked you to care!’
[…]
‘Of course I care! Why don’t you get that!’”

“In truth, both then and now, Midoriya’s offers were always made out of genuine concern—nothing to do with strength or weakness. This was incomprehensible to Bakugou, but at least in recent times, he’d made peace (to some degree) by accepting that he would never fully understand Midoriya.”

I adore this book. If you’re a bakudeku (like me,) buy this immediately!!! I have never been so happy with a purchase in my life. After watching mha at 11 to now, almost 18, I never would’ve thought I’d get to see Horikoshi let a fanfic be published as canon. Hori works in truly mysterious ways. I feel like yesterday was Deku vs. Kacchan. My boys have grown so much, and this books really highlights it! Great read, and thank you Anri Yoshi.

I have a love hate relationship with these books—they do come off as published fan fiction half the time, especially in the earlier ones (meaning: not so great with choppy writing). I often find myself quibbling with the Aizawa portrayals, but he seemed more in line with how I imagine him this time.
So, first off: less Mineta, thank HEAVENS. I cannot stand any short story from his POV, and he makes minimal appearances this time around.

Pros:
+ Eri. Also, we found out that Eri CAN INDEED RETURN BROKEN AND MISSING LIMBS. *squawks because my fan theory is right…although since this is canon-adjacent, maybe it’s not right, but who cares because I feel like it gives my theory some validity, LOL*
+ That last short story made me CRY. Ahhh. The foreshadowing for what’s coming in the manga/anime just made me bawl. Plus, the Oboro mourning, and just the general sense of “we are humans grieving.” This is what I love in my fan fiction. 😭
+ I’m putting Eri twice because we got TWO short stories. And her on the cover, like an absolute angel. And some sketches of her. 💕 Eri superiority. AND PLUS WE GOT AIZAWA BEING A DAD TO HER. 💕 I love found family and they make my heart happy. 🥹
+ The scene where everyone is trying to figure out nice things to say about Bakugo, and Todoroki—my precious, smol, oblivious bean—says “he’s Deku’s childhood friend!” 😄 and Bakugo’s reply of: “Why is ‘he’s known freakin’ Deku since they were kids’ on the list of what makes me great?” 🤣 THESE BOYS. I CANNOT WITH THEM.
+ Todoroki not knowing why he’s getting Valentine’s gifts. MY CHILD BEAN. YOU ARE TOO PRECIOUS. STOP IT. I LOVE YOU.

Cons:
- The fifth short story about the promo vids lasted wayyyyy too long. I really didn’t care and found myself so bored.

Everything else was pretty mid. All in all, a better “fan fiction” than some of the first collections, but still nothing like the manga or anime. I just love these babies, though, so if course I’m gonna snap up everything.

It's nice to watch and hear Bakugo's thoughts as I read these stories.

My favourite stories probably are the first three because it got me hooked up from the very beginning.

One of my favorites in this series so far.

Outside of part 5 and the usual not good Mineta stuff we somehow still always get a little of in every book, the rest of this was fantastic!

The Eri and Bakugo parts!!!!! The Deku and Bakugo parts which were so so good and give so much foreshadowing to whats coming up in the manga !!! The Eri story was such a joy to read and then the fucking ending which brings you crashing back to reality with the reminder of whats about to happen (I'm in large part talking about character X (that I won't spoil) but that has some lines in the last part of this book that made me want to chuck it at the wall because I've already read the upcoming manga where the bag thing happens to them.

Also Eri mimicking bakugo on the cover is just a delight.

●My Hero Academia School Briefs Vol 6 by Kohei Horikoshi and Andi Yoshi●

The final light novel for now was just as good as the others, the writing had massively improved since the beginning couple of books, but is still simple yet comforting.

The first story was a class face-off for Setsubun, where the students of class 1-A were split into two teams (some villains and some heroes) to either rescue or keep little Eri captured. Aizawa also gave Bakugo a special assignment to befriend the young girl, which was a struggle for him. It was sweet seeing everyone ditch the main exercise in order to help Bakugo, and I especially giggled when they tried to convince Eri that he's a good guy. Seeing Bakugo's development and everyone being shocked when he compliments Eri was amusing, I like how his hard exterior softened just a little.

The second story was about the girls of class 1-A celebrating Valentine's Day, and being tasked with passing on some chocolate from another student to 'Prince Charming'. It was hilarious seeing them work out who the intended receiver is and as usual Mineta is such a weirdo. Shoto being confused as to why he's getting so much chocolate was also funny yet cute, he's clueless and it's adorable.

Another story followed some of the class 1-A boys going on a small, wintery camping trip for spring break. I really enjoyed this particular story, since a lot of focus was on Bakugo and Midoriya's turbulent friendship. Seeing a more vulnerable side to Bakugo was strange yet great, especially reading about his internal feelings when he's sick and receives help from Midoriya that reminds him of a moment from their childhood (the falling into the stream scene). I loved the mystery and action, and in true UA fashion I liked the twist.

The story after about the students teaming up with the business course was funny yet dragged, so I skim read it. The final two stories were on the sweeter side, with one following Eri and her Quirk training whilst celebrating her first Shichi-Go-San, and the other story followed the teachers having a late night Hanami picnic. I enjoyed this one too, because of the sofer moments and the humorous drunken defensiveness between Aizawa and Vlad King when it comes to their beloved classes. It was heartwarming until the final line, which packs a punch and gives a harsh reminder of the main plot and chaos that ensues.

4/5 🌟

This really was not well-written. It surprised me, actually, but the writing was Not It. It was choppy, the characters came across as caricatures of themselves, and the second to last part with the promo vids was not interesting. It started off cool, but it felt like an anime filler episode where we see a bunch of snapshots with no explanation or connection between them. Everyone got one, and once they were over, we moved on. No overarching narrative, no actual conversation. It was really boring.

I liked the Eri parts, and I liked the last chapter with the teachers. It was kind of a slog to get through as an entire book since the writing was not engaging, nor did I feel particularly invested in any of the characters (which surprised me considering how crazy I am for some of them normally).

I was really disappointed by this one and I won't be reading the rest of the series. Love the Eri content though! I love her so much <3

I really only enjoyed the story of the kids on the mountain, the story where Eri watches Midoriya train, and the story where some of the teachers reminiscing and praising the students.

The story where Bakugou is tasked with learning how to be better with children by needing to befriend Eri was a wasted opportunity, in my opinion. Sure, I didn't expect it to do a full fanfic thing where there was enough to time to truly have them bond and come to an understanding. Although, I'd be lying if I said the headcanon fandom came up with where Eri becomes one of Bakugou's biggest fans isn't the cutest thing in the world to me. However, I thought it would've made more sense if Midoriya (knowledgeable of how much Bakugou hates being pitied or helped) secretly came up with a plan to make it look like something went wrong and Bakugou had to protect Eri. Something where they bonded by working together instead of a stallmate ending in a tepid compliment. I'm not sure the entire point of that segment.

The mountain story almost makes up for that though because the introspection into Bakugou's view of pity was pretty good. It's definitely just a more clearly definied explanation of his thoughts from the manga, however it was still nice. We also got the entire team, especially Midoriya, worried over Bakugou being sick and that was cute. Especially when it flipped on its head and Bakugou was worried about Midoriya being sick. I appreciate the most when the Light novels give more insight into their relationship because it is hands down the most compelling relationship in the series for me.

The story where Eri watches Midoriya train Black Whip with Bakugou was good. It was a nice look at Eri struggling to use her power something that doesn't really get focus in the manga. I also liked Midnight and Thirteen wanting to do traditions for children with her.

I also like that the Light novels show more of the teachers bonding. My favorite was from a former book where All Might went out desperate to get Aizawa to like him. This one where they have a picnic together was nice, too

Now, the story where Mineta is running around demanding "heartfelt" chocolate because he tried being a decent person for a week was just annoying. Sato is now dead to me for thinking Mineta's "antics" (read: harassment) was "adorable". It's not and he's not. He's a constant blight on the entire series because he's so incredibly unlikable and gross.

The story where the Business Course films ads with the Hero Course went on for way too long and none of it was all that fun to read. Maybe if we'd gotten to see some of the kids working with them while filming or something, it would've been more fun? Maybe if they'd all had roles in 1 ad together it could've been more fun? As it is, I didn't really enjoy it.

I loved this volume of the light novel series. We got to see more interactions between some characters that we haven’t seen before: Eri and Bakugou and Shinso and Eri. The Shinso and Eri interaction was so precious since they both look up to Aizawa since, Aizawa is helping both of them with their quirks. In the fandom though, I’ve seen a lot of people consider them his children since he’s the one who decided to take care of Eri and for Shinso he’s starting to be similar to Aizawa like how he utilizes a scarf that is similar to Aizawa’s. It was nice to see the two interact. I’ve always wanted to see it happen. In the light novel too we also get more background info on Eri like her training with her quirk and the background story of how she ended up under Chisaki’s control. I didn’t know she ended up using her quirk on her father which ended up making him being reverted back into non existence.

Overall, this volume of the light novel series was just as enjoyable as the other volumes. I like how we get to see the UA students being students in their day to day life besides fighting villains. The picture of Midnight in the last chapter and the ending sentences of the novel made me a bit sentimental after knowing what happens next in the My Hero timeline. We also got some great thoughts from Bakugo of what he thinks of Deku. From his thoughts of the time when the two were young and Bakugo fell down, Deku reached out his hand and asked him if he was alright. As I’ve stated before, this volume had a lot of interesting interactions between several characters which made it enjoyable. I guess the only thing I didn’t like about this volume would be the Promo Video team up with the Business students. It was really long and boring reading it that I wanted to skip it. I kind of wish the book had a reference for the class B kids too since I ended up forgetting who the majority of them are.

This one was okay as far as these light novels tend to go. Most of the chapters were just kind of okay. I thought chapter 4 was very cute, and chapter 5 was honestly rip-roaring hilarious. I was actually laughing out loud, it was just a thing of beauty. I'd been expecting to be exasperated with this particular installment because I kept seeing so many other ratings and reviews talking about the sheer amount of errors in this book, but honestly even for the errors that are there, it wasn't unreadable. I do expect better quality than this from Viz, but at least I was able to read it without issue. And unless there are more installments in this series that simply have not been translated into English yet, this concludes my initial reading of the MHA light novels! I'm glad I managed to finish reading them all!

One of the best installments in the series. Easily a 4.5-star read.
This volume holds some of the most heartwarming stories in the School Briefs collection. It's the end of winter, and you can feel the characters starting to sense the arrival of spring; full of hope, unaware of the challenges waiting at the end of their first year. It would feel so purely joyful if we didn’t already know what’s coming for them. But in this brief moment of peace, we get to stay in a softer world with them, and I’m grateful for that little extension of calm.

I’m also incredibly happy to see more of Bakugou’s character explored. The scene where Bakugou and Midoriya notice each other’s illness before anyone else? Touching foreheads to check for a fever?? Absolute perfection.

Usually I love the cute chill spin offs but I found this book to be by far the weakest in the series.

The section on the videos they made with the business course students was by far the worst and very boring to trudge through, especially considering most were forgotten immediately after I read them.

It was still a very comfy read despite this and on the whole I did have a good time reading it.

I love the little art that is in this book. some of the stories are really cute and cool. I mostly like the festival chapter so much Eri is adorable in that one story. I LOVE Dadzawia as well.

I might have to re-read this one a some point but I am not a huge of the school briefs unlike the hero team ups and Vilgalints but I still enjoyed this book.

Why did the valentine's story have to revolve around mineta so much 😒

It was nice to read this mostly in Feb since that's when it's set, though looking at my review for the last one, that seems to be a reoccuring theme haha

It's always fun reading the spin-off stuff from My Hero Academia; it definitely feels like the perfect way to take a break from the pain and the angst of the events happening in the main manga. Can't wait to read more of these!

They give us all these chill filler episode stories but end the book with
"Sadly, no one could have known of the death and destruction that awaited the world"..😭

Sadly this volume had a few stories that seemed to lag a bit, but overall still some cute stories. 3.5 stars

Reading this volume after the manga ended made me appreciate and miss the cast more. I really do hope Horikoshi is able to give us a spin off slice manga or light novels to cover the timeskip.
