Children love to talk about patterns and textures, and what better way than to read about all the different sorts of clothes they can wear. This series is ideal for that stage when children have moved on from first word books, but are not quite ready for story books yet. With its bright artwork and fun text, this series will encourage both observation and the increase of vocabulary.

This colorful and textured picture book displays a variety of clothes that people enjoy wearing. Throughout the book readers can see outfits that are worn for different occasions such as painting, going in the snow, and going to parties, as well as clothes that provide different purposes such as being comfortable, convenient, and cool. This is the perfect book for curious, young readers who love to pick out what they’re going to wear for the day. This book may even introduce them to something new and exciting to wear.
There isn’t necessarily a theme in this book. However, the author’s purpose was to teach kids how to read by making connections with situations that they can relate to. For example, they can connect a picture of snow and staying warm to the furry collar the boy is wearing.
I chose this book as one of my good reads because of its bright cover. This book is meant for children who are not quite ready for reading on their own. When I read this book, it reminded me of all of the different books my mom and dad read to me when I was younger. Now that I’m older this would be a book I would choose to read to my cousin who is five years old. She would have me stop on each page and point to each item of clothing. She would most likely relate to a few items of clothing, such as having a pretty dress that she wears to her friends birthday party, or soft and warm pajamas that she wears to bed.
I would recommend this book to kids around the age of four and five because it’s a good way to introduce them to different occasions that outfits can be worn for. This book reminded me of kids’ books that introduce the colors, this is just taken a step further. By flipping through the pages with their parents, little kids will be able to relate this book to similar outfits they own. This book has different levels of difficulty within it. If parents wanted to, they could ask their kids questions about the different textures that the clothing provides.
