Snow on the Mountain
The rich, the famous, and the most serious skiers come to Wapiti Creek, where Jake helps them onto the lifts and Kurt improves their skiing skills. Opening Line: “The screams made me turn around to look uphill.
”We first met Jake and Kurt in the fantastic 5 star Fire on the Mountain where they worked as fire rangers for the summer season. Two men alone in the mountains cut off from civilization, completely reliant on each other and well, you can guess the rest. Of course both assume the other is straight at first and dance around the obvious signs they're each putting out until a life or death situation forces the truth to the surface. They want each other.
Snow On The Mountain picks up a few months later; Jake and Kurt are now working at the exclusive Wapiti ski resort and still very much in the honeymoon phase of their relationship. While everything is perfect behind the closed doors of their staff housing, navigating their relationship in public is proving to be a little more difficult.
Jake as a novice skier has been assigned to run the bunny lift, a job that suits him just fine. He’s making friends, improving his skills on the hill and was recently adopted by the boss’s five year old twins, who he seems to be babysitting down the green runs on a daily basis.
Kurt’s transition was more interesting to me as he struggles initially to find work, giving in to the fact that he might just be shovelling snow all winter when a plum job instructing at a private ski school lands in his lap. In FOTM Kurt was the popular, self-confident, hero kinda guy. I mean he was good at everything he did and Jake worshipped him for it, so it was interesting here to see the roles reversed with Kurt struggling to find his footing while Jake adapted to their new life and friends so easily.
Thankfully in this book we get inside both of our heroes heads as Singer has provided us with an alternating POV albeit it goes from 1st to 3rd person but I still appreciated getting Kurt’s view.
So yeah the conflict; well Kurt’s job doesn’t turn out to be quite what it seems on paper and after he books his first client he finally figures out what all the sneers and sideways glances, have been about. It seems is new instructor job is just a front for an escort business. Of course all that pales when it comes to being held at gunpoint, crazed Bulgarians and surviving avalanches.
Ultimately though I have to say this book was a real struggle for me to get through. Which was disappointing because I’d loved the first book in the series so much and had been looking forward to Jake and Kurt’ s continuing story. I also spent 10 years living in Whistler so I was excited about the ski resort aspect, especially knowing how good PD Singer is at creating her locations. She doesn’t disappoint here, the ski conditions and terminology are perfect, and I felt like I was there at the resort, whooshing down the slopes with fresh powder in my face but sadly everything else just fell flat to me. The romance was meh and the bad guy was kinda over the top and hilarious without meaning to be.

I finished the first book thinking flawed but entertaining and wondered why I'd never finished the series. Now I remember!
The story is ridiculous. Completely farfetched from the start. Kurt's been working the ski resort for a few years how could he be do clueless? Both characters come across naive and not very bright. What happened to the capable team from the last book?
Danger, with witness, but they hush it up rather than contact authorities.
There's an avalanche but only four people are aware of it, even though six others are called in, no one else is aware of it.
But hey let's go back up the mountain and makeout for a few hours in the bad guy's sex-cabin.
Bidets - more interesting than staying alive!
The whole concept is ridiculous. Why hire him? Why so eager to keep him? Over a willing alternative at that. How can he be that clueless?

But then SUPRISE Kurt was keeping secrets, he's actually more accomplished than he's let on, so, er, could have got a really good legitimate job all along, oh but then there'd be no book.

This was a solid, smoothly-written story, with characters I was already attached to after the first book. The plot went a little over the top in its thriller-style resolution, and particularly, for me, in the way that ended. But I enjoyed the ride, and liked the short-story that followed in the same volume. There was sweet emotion in that one. I did turn around and pick up the next sequel to follow this one.

I fell in love with Jake and Kurt in Fire on the Mountain, and learned interesting facts about being a forest ranger while watching their mating dance. In Snow on the Mountain, the steamy action is interspersed with daring rescues and skiing.
Throughout their misadventures, you can't help standing on the sidelines, cheering these two on. P.D. Singer has given us another thoroughly entertaining read!!!

Jake Landon and Kurt Carlson are still learning the basics of being in a relationship. They spent the entire summer under the stars in the Colorado Mountains and quickly went from friends and co-workers to lovers. Now they’ve traded in their ranger uniforms for parkas and ski’s for their new home, new jobs at the exclusive Wapiti Creek Ski Resort. Forest fires have been replaced by jealous co-workers, misplaced affections and a secret the resort keeps that threatens Jake and Kurt’s still fragile relationship.
While there were still a few plot holes and unbelievable aspects to this story, I really enjoyed it far more than the first in this series. The character development and storyline were stronger, as were the secondary characters, and the descriptives in this story were more visually attainable for me. There is no question that Jake and Kurt love each other, it is the day to day aspects of being a couple they are having trouble dealing with. Jake isn’t in the closet per say, but he won’t love Kurt openly, and this causes a bit of a strain. But at the end of the day they know what they mean to each other and Kurt is frustrated, but infinitely patient.
The narration was so much better this time around as well. Singer stuck with Finn Sterling who had a few issues telling the first story, in my opinion, but with this story he found his footing. While he still used the same tone for Jake and Kurt, there were subtle inflections and nuances in this story that weren’t there before. Almost like Sterling had to get acquainted with the characters before he could really give them a voice.
Full of emotion, danger and just the right amount of fluff, Snow on the Mountain is a fast, fun, thrill ride down the sometimes rocky slope of love. I’d recommend this read to all my fellow hopeless romantics.

Je me suis laissée embarquer par ce tome, commencé en début de soirée et terminé au petit matin, dévoré d’une traite ! Impossible de le poser…
J’ai au préalable relu le premier opus, celui de leur rencontre « Brasier en montagne » et je trouve que ce deuxième tome est supérieur au premier. On rentre directement au cœur de l’histoire, on retrouve nos deux héros environ cinq mois après la fin du tome 1. Du coup, cela va plus vite dans celui-ci. J’ai senti dès le début qu’il aller se passer des choses, des choses qui remettraient certainement le couple en question, qui peut-être aller le briser… J’avoue que cela m’a captivé… J’ai souffert, appréhendé, douté avec eux… Et même eu peur pour eux.
On retrouve un Kurt confiant, fidèle à lui-même, et on a également la chance, dans ce volume, de connaitre par moment son ressenti. Ce que j’ai grandement apprécié ! On découvre par ce biais une autre facette de ce personnages si attachant et bravache.
Jake, quant à lui, est toujours aussi adorable. J’ai aimé son gros cœur, sa confiance en son partenaire, mais aussi ses faiblesses…
Quant au déroulement de l’histoire, même si certains passages sont un peu « gros », « tirés par les cheveux », je me suis laissée prendre malgré tout. Et cela reste en adéquation avec l’histoire.
L’auteur, de par ces mots, les agissements, et hésitations des protagonistes a réussi à me replonger à leur âge respectif. J’ai retrouvé l’hésitation des débuts amoureux, la peur d’aimer à sens unique, toutes ces petites choses qu’on ressent au début d’une relation Tous ces sentiments et émotions m’ont tenue au cœur de l’histoire, en immersion totale.
J’ai passé un bon moment de lecture et j’ai apprécié la nouvelle qui suit une fin de tome qui m’avait laissée sur ma faim…

This is a follow up book to Fire on the Mountain. Kurt and Jake are 5 months into their relationship and working through the winter at a ski resort. They are still learning about each other and not totally solid yet although a lot more steady than they were.
There is a lot of action in this book and a lot less of the minute descriptions of the life of a ski instructor than we got of the life of a fire ranger. The balance seemed much more even in this effort.
Jake starts off with a daring rescue and we learn that Kurt has a job that is coveted by some and reviled by others and isn't sure why. It takes entirely too long for Kurt to figure out that the ski lessons he is supposed to be giving come with a happy ending in certain cases. The danger of discovery and his potential threat to go public with the info lands Kurt in some pretty compromising and dangerous situations that Jake allows himself to be lead to the wrong conclusion about. Thankfully the problems don't drag out and the two end up a more solid couple after the danger and adventure they encounter in such a few short weeks on the mountain.
I liked this follow up book much better than the first. The guys were more real and had more depth to them. Jake definitely had less circular thinking and although the adventure was over the top it was still exciting. The secondary characters were an added benefit not a distraction and the sex between the two is really very well written and scorching hot.
If you liked the first book you will like this one even more, I think. If, like me, you were on the fence you can safely jump off to continue the journey between Jake and Kurt.

This is Jake and Kurt's continuation story. While the summer was spent in virtual isolation in the wilderness, now it's winter, and they work together at a major ski resort. I liked the fact that they interacted with others more, made friends, and even a possible suitor came in the picture. But there's trouble on the mountain too, as enemies of all sorts seem to come out of the woodwork to make things that much harder.
I liked this book a lot. It's almost a bit better than the first because the two men aren't alone anymore and they have to work toward their relationship that's so new and fragile still. And perhaps staying in the closet is no longer an option.
I like Singer's writing, it's smooth and realistic. And her handle on all things skiing related is top notch. I highly recommend this!

Jake and Kurt from Fire on the Mountain are now working in a ski resort during the winter season. They've been together for six months and for the most part are comfortable in their relationship. This time around the action focuses on outside influences, Jake rescues a little boy and ends up with two little stalkers while Kurt takes a job with some very surprising, and unwanted, duties. There's a couple of bad guys, a few too many skiing references that I didn't understand as well as nice guys in love, humor, hot sex and some exciting action scenes. Lovely ending and I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.

The sex between Kurt and Jake is sweet, hot, and full of love. Ms Singer writes sexy scenes with passion and I always enjoy that aspect of her books. I suppose SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN could be read as a standalone story but having the background from Fire on the Mountain adds so much to the understanding of the characters and why they act the way they do. SNOW ON THE MOUNTAIN is another treat from Ms Singer and I really enjoyed it.

The first book in the series, Fire on the Mountain, was excellent. This book was as bad as that one was good. It seemed the author was just trying too hard to come up with a sequel. The story line was so ridiculous and I often got lost in the endless descriptions of the navigation of the ski runs. I was really disappointed by this one, especially after enjoying the first book so much.

Oh man, this book did NOT live up to the decently good one that preceded it. The plot was just too OTT and unbelievable (not the Whore-aspect, that I believe)...just that nothing ever came of the whole mess. There are legal liabilities involved here with the wife of a controlling interest owner knowing what the "ski school" was up to if it ever came out as prostitution is illegal in Colorado; the resort could be held accountable, charged, fined - the scandal would be endless and likely bankrupt the whole endeavor.
(I 100% approve of legalizing prostitution for consenting adults; that's not an issue. However, in most places it's NOT legal and none of the characters mentioned anything other than a contract with sex stipulations not being enforceable.)
Also, uh, didn't anyone wonder about the dead guy? Owner ever figure out his wife was cheating? And I really hated how imperious the owner acted with Jake, basically making him care for those kids whether he wanted to or not - when his job is to man the ski lift. Recommending Kurt for the proper ski instructor position doesn't justify the heavy handedness, IMHO.

Most romance novels finished with the happily-ever-after, but life isn’t like that. There’s no big grand finale, there’s just tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that.
This is the second book in a tale of romance. Jake and Kurt are no longer isolated in the back country, but surrounded by people who have their own opinions and desires, and put pressure on Jake and Kurt in ways that can impact their budding relationship.
The biggest impact seems to be having people around who could witness that grow in love. It’s hard for two “straight seeming” men to come out of the closet and face the opinions of those around them…but it’s impossible to deny just how much they mean to each other.

I had a few quibbles and fears, but things didn’t go the way it seemed it would so I was happy in the end.
There was a lot of skiing, which was kind of boring, a shady ski school, demanding bosses, a-hole coworkers, arrogant Olympians, jumping to conclusions, fist fights, spoiled children, and danger. But there was also new friends, forgiveness, and love. So while not great, I still enjoyed it.
I had a few quibbles and fears, but things didn’t go the way it seemed it would so I was happy in the end.
There was a lot of skiing, which was kind of boring, a shady ski school, demanding bosses, a-hole coworkers, arrogant Olympians, jumping to conclusions, fist fights, spoiled children, and danger. But there was also new friends, forgiveness, and love. So while not great, I still enjoyed it.

Protags of high moral character kinda bore me (seriously, throw in some group sex or a murder or something). So do one-dimensional antags that are only a part of the story to be the bad guy. The sex is okay, steam rather than detail goes a long way for me but I know it's hard to create. Overall, a solid 2-star read.

This is the second book in Mountain series. I really liked the first one, and was looking forward reading the sequel. Unfortunately, IMO, this one is not as appealing as the first one. My like/dislike of this book is not steady. At first, I really enjoyed it and was ready to give it a 5-star rating. In the middle, however, it faltered. It's still a nice book, though.

So in the first book, I commented how it was a slow build up to the romance. That it felt more like a romance than a smexy hot read.
I enjoyed that. But what I didn't know was that book 2, was not a new couple, but Jake and Kurt further down the road. Oh my excitement was great after that, since it meant the slow romance build up that started in book 1, was done and we got to enjoy the romance/smexy fun times of the two boys.
Kurt seemed far less self assured than he did in the first book, which seemed a little out of character. And his attitude towards getting a job, seemed a little out of left field.
But once we knew the whys, it was much less out of left field, and actually gave him a lot more depth, when we also saw that he wasn't always the best. (Referring to him skiing with his previous team mate) Definitely made him more human.
Jake was a lot more comfortable in his skills and skin. This mostly was due to the confidence he got from his relationship with Kurt.
The two kids were adorable.
The plot/baddies... some people complained that it was little too far fetched 'thriller', but I didn't find it any more far fetched than most Rom Suspense novels. I guess though it might just be that they weren't expecting a RomSuspense?
The audiobook... Well, the narrator still reads Jake a little fem for my tastes, in my head he isn't that fem. But otherwise he does a good job with the narration and the other characters. However the 'woohoo' and 'Yeah!'s that happened during a skiing down the mountain scene towards the end got a little annoying.
The writing... well, it felt less like I was being read the fire ranger's operations manual like the first book did. So I think the author was over her first book of the series writing pains.

In book one we meet Jake and Kurt and this is their continued story. They’ve been living together and working for the past 5 months and though they are pretty secure in their love for each other, they haven’t said the “L” word out loud. Jake is still a bit in the closet and this can be frustrating for Kurt, especially when Jake inadvertently leads on one of his co-workers!
PD Singer does another fantastic job describing the life and times at a ski resort. Having grown up on the slopes of Colorado myself, I really felt the descriptions, terminology and scenes developed there were accurate and put the reader right there in the snow with the guys.
The romance between Kurt and Jake is both hot (their sex scenes are blazing!) and appropriately mundane as they learn how to be a couple. I enjoyed watching them mature as a couple and liked that we got both Kurt and Jake’s POV. I loved the ending and the cute little bonus story!
As far as the “action” part of the story- there are scheming ski bunnies, European gangsters, an avalanche, daring rescues, clingy kids, hot-to-trot co-workers, an escort service- it was a bit much. Though it was sometimes handled with humor (much appreciated) it still felt a bit too “Dynasty” at times.
All in all I am still really enjoying the series, love Kurt and Jake as a couple, am excited to keep reading about Kurt and Jake and their adventures and think PD Singer does a great job with writing full, complex characters and is excellent at setting the scene.

Finn Sterling does a terrific job with the narration. He gives the Europeans nice accents, adds nice inflections to the emotional and exciting scenes and handles the strange words very well. I think his children’s voices are good, but didn’t like his female characters very much.
I think listening to this book is the best way to experience it.

4.5 stars. This is the sequel to Fire on the Mountain and Kurt and Jake have winter jobs at a ski resort. Life is more complicated when there are other people around.
More of Kurt's past is revealed in this book and Jake continues to act with mature competence softened by moments of vulnerability and self-doubt that balance perfectly. Their relationship grows against a background of the 'everyday' goings on at the ski resort that give the book a good dose of action and adventure. As a non-skier I particularly appreciated how well the skiing sequences were written with all the necessary explanation supplied seamlessly - without explaining things to death or long lectures on the subject.
The secondary characters are well crafted - both the good guys and the bad guys. One of the good guys, Mark, gets his own story in the next novel in the series Fall Down the Mountain

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first one, but yeah, Kurt's kind of a dumb jock - idiot. LOLI knew what the ski resort was all about and f-ing Kurt was working there. Jake was great in this.
Writing wise, it was weird b/c Jake's POV was first person and Kurt's was not... I can see why both POVs were necessary but it really struck me as odd.
I totally loved Mark. My fav. part was Jake drunk and he watching Mark and Kurt's interaction drunk. It was best.
I think the relationship was explored well, they did show a lot of insecurities between the two and usually the perfect Kurt in the perfect relationship, Kurt can do no wrong, thing would bother me but it worked really well in this story. The author, again, knows their shit about snow, and mountain, and skiing. I was impressed.
Not gonna lie though, it was a bit heavy on the details and I found myself glossing over.
The short story sequel in the end was cute. And I liked knowing more about Kurt's dating past.

**Audiobook Review**
This was another great story with Jake and Kurt. I was afraid things would slow down between them after the way the first book ended, but boy was I wrong. This one was even better than the first story! It was so intense with a lot of unexpected twists, plus a few super hot scenes to wrap it all up. Along with a little extra story at the end to make me really hope that these two can keep advancing as a couple as time goes on.
There is a lot of mystery and suspense to this one... or more I suppose thrill to see what is going to happen as we find out more and more about what Kurt's job is about and exactly what it entails. Adding in the sweet little kids that just love Jake and it was a really really great book.
Can't wait for more.

The continuing adventure of Jack and Kurt who want to be together, but don't know how because there are some difficult questions about Jake's studies that will be taking him away as well as his very in the closet behavior.
The story is set in the expensive Wapiti Creek Ski Resort. Jake Landon has never skiied before while Kurt Carlson is a top world class skiier who can get the big money teaching skiing, but there is a shady side business that makes of a mystery, then there is no mystery and then death threats and some crazy stuff that will haunt some of the characters in this story into the next one.
Liked this, but the Fire on the Mountain was more fun to read, less death threats.

How did two nice guys like Kurt and Jake get stuck in such a ridiculous plot? I really enjoyed their relationship. Once again Singer shows she really cares about getting all of the little work details right, this time around its the world of resort skying. Thankfully she does't go overboard like she did in their last outing. But then the plot just took a ride on the crazy train. I was willing to accept Kurt misunderstanding the complete list of his duties and not being down with them, but the fall-out that ensued was a bridge too far. I still want to read more about these characters. Hopefully the author tones it down because she really is quite a good writer otherwise.

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance
Finn Sterling narrated this first person title, and he did a fabulous job. He was easy to listen to and just sucked me right into the story. I can safely say that his narration helped the story come alive for me. I read Snow back in October when I first listened to Fire on the Mountain and did not enjoy it nearly as much as I did this time around.
