“THERE MAY BE NO GHOSTS OR GHOULS HERE, BUT THERE ARE MONSTERS. IT’S OUR JOB TO STOP THEM.” Fleeing Al’Myrah, Tzarik sails with Sybal as far away from Sharar as they can. Landing on the far eastern continent of Xia, they discover there are no Runers on Xia and a civil war is heating up between the traditionalists and those who believe it is time for Xia to join the ways of the modern world. A mysterious creed called Wushito culls the monsters without runes or the white blood. Revered or feared, Wushito exists to support the ruler of Xia--the one touched by the White Dragon. But with Runers ashore, their secrets may soon be brought to light and the traditions on which Xia is built will be tipped into chaos. Put in the middle, Tzarik and Sybal set events into motion they must see through to the end or risk unleashing a malevolent force into the world. However, a shadow from the past appears amidst their new struggle, complicating their sojourn and quest for sanctuary.

Sojourn is book 2 of the Season of the Runer series. An adult grimdark fantasy series on the epic world building scale.
Favourites: - World building: this is at the top of my list for these books every time. I LOVE the different cultures, scenery and animals. Last time it took us to the deserts, this time we get to experience more asian-inspired world building. - Flawed characters: if anything, Linhardt's series is character-driven. Though there is a big fat plot in the background that we follow, it's clear the see that our journey is very strongly decided by the choices of our flawed MC's. Which I love!
What I missed: - the main flaw for me was the fact that I just lost track of what was happening several times, same as in book one. There is such a massive cast of characters, and this time many of them have names that are in ways similar so i kept confusing some of them. And there's so much political intrigue going on, that i sometimes just lost track of who was on what side and why.
Sexual content: mild; a single short bath scene with very mild steam....pun intended, and part of a sideplot is one of the MC's trying to help two different young, unmarried characters to have a night alone Coarse language: mild Violence and gore: moderate-extreme,
Conclusion The narration is very wel done, the asian-inspired worldbuilding was absolutely stunning and very immersive, and a bunch of seriously flawed characters trying to make ends meet. If you like epic scaled fantasy but with a lot of grittyness and grimness, go check out Season of the Runer! I'm excited for book 3.
The audible was awesome. Hours of listening to a fantasy you will want to keep listening to. The characters and world building is great. Follow the action as you become part of the story. You will not want to stop listening, even though you will have to stop and then go back to it the next day. Well worth the money for these. Can't wait for the next book.

I’m addicted to dark fantasy, so I was 100% on board for reading this series. I absolutely love Sojourn. The first book was a 5 star read, so if I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. I love when book two is even better than book one! Once again, this author creates such a beautiful world that I could get lost in. The writing is captivating and I just love the story. Returning to these characters was so great. I felt like I knew them, so it was easy to get back into another adventure with them. I do recommend reading these in order, and I think it will make more sense. If you’re looking for an incredible fantasy series to read, this is one I highly recommend. This was absolutely captivating. The action scenes were well written, the plot moved along at a good pace, and the characters were engaging. I loved how well-developed the world was, with continents, peoples, and conflicts filling it. I'll admit the opening was a little slow at first for me, but once the story really got going, I couldn't put it down. Sybal was probably my favorite, I couldn't help but love her fire even if it wasn't always to her advantage. Tzarik was a great character, but I found it harder to relate to him. Overall a great dark, epic, fantasy.
This was a fantastic addition to the Season of the Runer series. Linhardt has created such a rich and exciting world, and Xia has been about my favourite land so far. The Eastern culture gave this world a feel reminiscent of a Lian Hearn novel, no easy feat! Now I eagerly wait for the third instalment! Highly recommend.
