From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shannon Stacey. Jack Donovan went through hell and back to save Isabelle once. Now she’s back in his life, hunted by an assassin so elusive some claim he’s only an urban legend. More than just a gun for hire, the killer is driven by a pathological need to take down his targets and, when Isabelle escapes the bullet meant for her, Jack knows he'll strike again. The only way to keep her alive is to keep her close, and Jack’s about to learn what hell really is. In the year since Jack rescued her from a guerrilla compound and then walked away, Isabelle Arceneau has begun to put her life back on track. Now somebody wants her dead and Jack is once again her only hope for survival. As the Devlin Group races to uncover the killer’s identity and Jack and Isabelle go on the run in a desperate bid to keep her alive, she knows she can trust him with her life, but never again with her heart.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her favorite activities are writing romance and really random tweets when she’s not riding her ATV. She loves mud, books, football & watching way too much TV.
I received an advance reader edition of this book from the author via Net Galley for the purpose of providing an honest review.
4 Stars
There were other men who could keep her alive, but he was the only man who made her feel alive.
I really enjoyed this action packed story. Every once in a while I find that I am in the mood to curl up with a good romantic suspense. The right combination of action and romance can just be tons of fun if it is done well and I think that this book hit the mark very well. I have not read any of the other books in the Devlin Group series and I thought that this book read just fine as a stand alone but I could tell that there was some events in the characters' past that was probably the focus of prior books.
The book starts with a bang. Isabelle is the target of a gunman and when she gets a chance to call for help, she calls Jack. Isabelle and Jack met during her rescue which is most likely the focus of a prior book and you really get enough information in the story about it that you never feel lost. Jack immediately goes to protect Isabelle. Both have feelings for each other that they have been trying to suppress. The Devlin group sends a second man, Ty West, to help keep Isabelle safe when it becomes apparent the gunman is extremely dangerous.
The trio find themselves in several very difficult situations but are determined to stop the gunman's plan. The chemistry between Jack and Isabelle is off the charts and eventually the pair quit fighting what seems inevitable. I loved Ty's character. He does what needs to be done without question but also seemed to know how to lighten the mood when necessary. Eventually, things get even more difficult and the Devlin group must change gears to stop Isabelle's attacker.
I really had a lot of fun with this story. There was no extreme plot twists but there were a few moments that popped up that I didn't expect. The pacing of the story was well done with enough action to keep the story moving. I really liked all the characters in this one. Jack and Isabelle really seemed quite perfect for each other and I almost cheered when they quit fighting it.
I would highly recommend this story to fans of romantic suspense. I have read some of Shannon Stacey's contemporary romance Kowalski series and have really loved those. I really think she nailed this romantic suspense story as well. I do hope to go back and read the prior books in this series. I would really love to read about Isabelle's prior rescue.
Why, oh why, do I do this to myself? Start a series in the middle and love it so much I need extra time to go back and read the fist books. This was really good. Even though there was a lot that happened in the previous book that lead up to this one, I was in no way lost reading this one. Jack and the rest of the boys are serious hot and all alpha. Isabella was no slouch and certainly held her own.
I think the big reason I liked this book is that it's the book after the running through the jungle book. I am not a fan of that sub-genre even if it was written by Shannon Stacy. I've looked at the plots of the previous three books and they are not for me. Luckily, this one stands alone just fine. It was on sale on Amazon so I thought I'd give No Place to Hide a try.
I've really liked all but one of SS's books and this was a good one as well. Her men tend to be emotional rather than angsty or mindlessly "her-mine" and I love emotional heroes. Jack is definitely emotional and still misses Isabelle, a woman he and the company he works for rescued in Africa a year ago. SS does a good job of showing, not telling, and we really see how he has thought about Isabelle every day and how much she means to him. After the rescue he told Isabelle her feelings were based on hero worship and told himself that his were because she made him feel like a hero. Neither believed it, but he put her on the plane out of Africa anyway.
Isabelle has been in therapy to help put her life back together after two years of captivity (including some rape and torture) and is not as impressionable as she was right after she was saved. She knows what she wants and she's pretty sure she knows what Jack wants, too. I wouldn't say she's pushy (not to say that's a bad thing), but she's definitely forthright about wanting a relationship with him.
Now, a year later, someone is trying to kill Isabelle. She calls Jack and he comes running. Unlike other books I've read by authors who cross sub-genres, all the procedural elements made sense with no obvious plot holes or improbable devices.
This book. I absolutely loved it. All I can do is gush, and coming up with coherent words isn't possible.
The chemistry between Jack and Isabelle leaps off the page, and the suspense parts? Omg. There were a few times that I gasped or made hand motions or quickly switched positions in my seat and my husband thought something was wrong. No, everything was right.
For me, this book was an amazing read and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I love Stacey's books and thoroughly enjoyed this story of Jack and Isabelle. This one had characters I cared about, lots of action, and a storyline that kept me interested from beginning to end.
I have read almost all of this author's books and I have never been disappointed. The stories in this series move fast and you can never relax! The romance is also a plus!!!
Great conclusion to the Devlin Group series. Isabelle Arceneau watched Jack Donovan walk away, but he promised to respond if she ever needed help. And when she does, he’s on the next flight.
Terrific action adventure with more agent-y hijinks.
I freaking loved No Place To Hide by Shannon Stacey. I first knew of Stacey for her contemporary romance, and was ecstatic when I learned she had a romantic suspense series (my favorite genre). I just love the adrenaline rush that comes with the action scenes. Not only does Stacey write engaging characters, hot romance and exciting stories, she also includes a nice balance of heart racing scenes to keep you on the edge and flipping pages.
No Place To Hide is the fourth book in The Devlin Group series and features Jack and Isabelle from No Surrender. Jack's team members went through quite a bit to rescue Isabelle in the last book. While you don't have to read No Surrender to enjoy No Place to Hide, it does give you a bit more emotion and understanding regarding some of the hesitation for certain members to get involved again where Isabelle is concerned. There is a contract out on Isabelle's life and she calls Jack for help. it is pretty intense from the beginning and doesn't really let up until the end.
I really enjoy how Stacey was able to write whole book about people being on the run form a hitman, spending most of their time hiding out in hotels and it not get boring or redundant. The characters drove the story even though there was serious danger and life or death action scenes. The relationship between Jack and Isabelle and even Devil Group member, Ty West was entertaining to watch the entire time. Something I love about a series is reading about past characters so it was fun when the other members of the group were involved, especially Gallagher, Jack's boss. Let's just say they don't always see eye to eye. Oh, and the cover of the book? Totally Jack with two guns.
The writing in No Place To Hide was smooth and the pacing was right on. I couldn't put the book down and while I really wanted Isabelle and Jack to have closure I hated finishing the book. The action scenes were great, although sometimes I had a bit of difficultly following what was happening and had to reread them to make sure I followed. It didn't affect the pleasure I had in reading the book, however. The love scenes were a nice balance to the suspenseful scenes and I feel they complemented Jack and Isabelle's relationship well. The evil dude that was paid to kill Isabelle was super creepy. Definitely made my skin crawl when he said her name so those scenes definitely caused my heart rate to spike.
While Jack was the main character in the story and Isabelle's love interest, I fell in love with supporting character, Ty. I really hope that Stacey plans another book for him. He has such a great personality, stole the show sometimes and is just beginning his career with the group. If you like romantic suspense with...well, if you like romantic suspense in general, I think you will like this No Place To Hide. Happy Reading!
There's been a gap between this book and the previous so it was hard to remember all the players, but you didn't really need to know them so much anyway. There were moments when I felt like I had missed something because references were made and it had just been awhile since I'd read the previous books. Regardless, I really enjoyed this one.
I thought that the way the author portrayed Isabelle as a former kidnapping victim was quite realistic. She didn't magically get over the experience but worked hard through therapy to get back to a place in her life where she felt she had a life again. I also found it comendable that she chose to continue to working to bring awareness to the people of the coutry where she had been taken (it's escaping me at the moment). Not all victims would be able or willing to be in the limelight like that, so I thought it spoke to her character that she chose the path she did. I also felt it spoke to her strength of character that she took the time away from Jack to examine her feelings. Everyone told her she only had these feelings because he was her rescuer and that they would eventually go away. Even though she didn't believe that, she still took the time to do the work through her therapy to make sure. I really like that she also didn't let those same people and therapy work convince her that her feelings weren't real. I'd like to think that at some point she would have reached out to Jack on her own without the impetus of the attack on her life.
But there was an attack and it was the reason she contacted Jack and so we have a story. And a good one it was. The suspense was fast-paced and felt believeable. I liked that Isabelle was never TSTL and actually did things to help herself. The phone call to her therapist was questionable, but handled reasonably well by the author. In the end, she actually saved herself and that actually felt more satisfying to me.
The romance was inevetble and though they fought it for a while, it didn't drag on. Their chemistry was hot and I enjoyed watching them fall for each other all over again.
I love Shannon Stacey's writing, whether this romantic suspense series (which hopefully has more to come) or her Kowalski's, I never tire of her characters.
This book I've been hoping for to be published for so long, and when I found out it was coming out I did a little happy dance! AND when I got an e-mail last night that I actually won a copy of it, in a competition on the author's page... Yeah.
The emotional, psychological tension in the story is high. The team has gone through hell once before to save Isabelle's life, and Jack lost his heart to her, but had to let her go. And now a year later, she is the target of a professional serial killer, who has never missed the target. They are on the run for Isabelle's life, and it is tense, straining, and scary. The surprises keeps coming, keeping them on the edge. The threat to her life seems constant and unavoidable. The bond in Devlin Group is tight, the camaraderie and wit admirable and entertaining. The love between Jack and Isabelle is raw, and profound, and so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. I absolutely love Shannon Stacey's voice, style, type of writing. I've read everything she has written, and she's one of the very few on my auto-buy list of authors. And No Place to Hide was worth the wait and didn't disappoint in any way, shape or form. Yes, I'm gushing, but I can't help it. I felt the emotions the characters were feeling, there are some moments that make you smile, some that touch you heart and make you tear up and sigh... I pretty much inhaled the story on one sitting, hoping it wouldn't end just yet. Absolutely five shiny spoons for this one, and I hope there will more stories with Devlin group in the future!
Jack, the hero, and Isabelle, the heroine, have a history in that Jack once rescued her from captivity in Matunisia. They fell in love during that operation, but he gives her his number while telling her to call if she ever needs him and he'll come. And, then he puts her on a plane back to the United States. A year later, she calls him from the bathroom of a coffee shop after someone tries to kill her. And so the story begins.
I enjoyed this. Jack is not an "alphahole", but he is a contract "operative", for lack of a better word, working with the Devlin Group. He has a very strong urge to protect Isabella. But, she is strong in her own right. She survived two years of captivity in Matunisia and is able to handle a gun. And Jack has no problem arming her.
I did feel like I didn't know Jack very well. He's obviously a good person and cares about Isabelle very much, but his personality didn't "shine". I likde Isabelle, but I did get irritated a few times at her few whining binges. It was like she forgot that Jack and his team were helping her because of her connection to Jack and it felt like she could've sucked up some of the complaining. Then again, I don't know what I would do if someone were taking head shots at me.
This is the first Devlin Group book I've read in the series. I was not lost, but I do wish I'd started with the first in the series so I'd be more familiar with some of the other characters. I will probably go back and read the first three to catch up.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
This is book #4 in the Devlin Group Series but it can be read as a standalone. I have not read any of the other books and I did not have a problem picking up with this one.
One year ago Jack was involved in rescuing Isabelle from a guerrilla compound but then he left her at the airport told her to get on with her life and left. Isabelle has never forgotten the brave man who has rescued her and when some tries to kill her again Jack is her only hope at survival. The Devlin Group sets out to hunt down the person trying to kill her.
The action started on page one with the assassin shooting and Isabella. When he finds their hideout they must take off on the run. But while on the run Jack can't deny the feelings he has always had for Isabelle and thing start to heat up. Even though Isabella is scared for her and Jack she is a strong women who faces her fear and fights her attacker right along with Jack. Jack is her protector who realizes his feeling for Isabella.
This book is fast paced, tense, and suspenseful with a side of steamy thrown in. The characters are well developed and strong. The whole Devlin group is a force to be reckoned with. They work well together. The story line flows smoothly and keeps you intrigued wondering what will happen next. I will definitely be looking into the other Devlin Group book by Shannon Stacey.

Okay, I'll admit it. I've been missing Shannon Stacey's writing since the Kowalski series wrapped up. And I'll admit that I had no idea she wrote the Devlin Group series. It's completely different from the family dramas of the Kowalski series, and I was really drawn to checking it out.
No Place to Hide is the fourth book in the Devlin Group series, and it reads very well as a standalone. There's loads of action packed suspense as Jack Donovan tries to save Isabelle Arceneau from an assassin's bullet. He's as Alpha as they come, and she's not letting him go now that they're back together. I liked both of these characters and would have been happy to have intimate scenes between between these two. There was good chemistry between the players on the run too. It reminded me of everything I love about Shannon Stacey's writing.
No Place to Hide is a page turner, and I finished this pretty quickly. I'm intrigued enough about the rest of the Devlin Group to put the first three books on my TBR, too.
If you are in the mood for a quick read with a little romance and lots of action, this just might be the title for you.

Jack and the Devlon group had rescued Isabelle one year ago. After she had been kidnapped. Isabelle has worked to get her life back and there is an attack on her life. Isabelle calls Jack. Jack still misses Isabelle and still thinks about her but Jack is the one that made Isabelle leave. When Isabelle calls for help he immediately goes to her. Jack knew how much he cared for Isabelle but he also knew how dangerous his job was and how easily he could die. Jack then finds out that the most illusive hit man is after Isabelle and his record was perfect. Soon Isabelle and Jack are on the run trying to keep her alive. Of course Jack has some help from the team. I loved this story. This story had plenty suspense, action and hotness. I loved how Jack went right to Isabelle when she really needed him and he didn’t have any seconds thought about going to her. I loved how Isabelle was strong even after all she had been through. I love how Jack no longer doubts his or Isabelle’s feelings. All and all a great read. This was fast paced and I also loved the plot. This was also well written. I loved the characters . I also loved the ins and outs of this story and I highly recommend. I do just wish it was a little longer
Okay, so I am definitely going to have to read more of the Devlin group. This was my first book by this author. Though there was some history between this couple I would have liked to have, I didn't feel lost at all and was able to read this as a standalone. The story had a lot of action and kicked off right at the beginning of the story. Chemistry was great between the couple even though Jack was fighting what Isabelle knew was a foregone conclusion. Isabelle was a trooper throughout all the trouble they had to deal with. She was a strong woman who knew what she wanted, and after all she had survived in the past, she was not going to left Jack get away this time. Jack did his best to convince himself that he was too old and his job was too dangerous for Isabelle. As they faced a hired assassin, Jack finally realizes he can't live without her. They both have to fight to survive before they can see if they can make it together.
I really enjoyed this book and am ready to start catching up on what I missed in this series so I will be ready for the next book. Net Galley provided a copy for honest review.
This is a first for me, I haven’t read a Devlin Group story from Shannon Stacey before. I’m a big fan of her contemporary romance titles so I was excited to jump in with something a little more action packed. Because the overall storyline is intertwined I did have a little bit of a problem jumping in with book four, No Place to Hide. Our h/h met in the previous book, the original connection that Jack and Isabelle made was in book 3 in the series. They may have been apart for a year but when Isabelle is in trouble Jack drops everything to be by her side to protect her. With a killer on their tail, Jack will do anything he can to protect Isabelle including denying the attraction between them. With their feelings boiling over and a killer closing in, with they be able to open up to the possibility of a HEA? I’m pretty sure I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the series from the beginning but this was a fun, fast, smexy read. I’m excited to try more!
This was a great read that was filled with suspense and a lot of action.
Isabelle was once rescued by Jack Donovan previously when she was kidnapped by a druglord in Africa. She quickly learns that her feelings for Jack have not dissipated over the time that they have spent apart.
Isabelle once again finds herself in trouble and the only person she knows to call is Jack. Jack doesn't even think about going and helping Isabelle. They quickly learn that Isabelle is the target of one of the most elusive hitmen and his record is perfect.
Jack and Isabelle find them both fighting their feelings for one another until the events that lead to the end of their manhunt.
I loved that Isabelle was the one that finally said, fuck it. I'm not fighting these feelings anymore. I wanted to seriously kick Jack Donovan on more than one occasion with how he handles their emotional encounters but in the end I was really glad to have read this story.
As a huge fan of Shannon's Kowalski family series No place to hide is my first book in the deviln group but it will not be the last. Jack and Isabelle have a past. A year ago Jack was one of the main guys to rescue her from the prison camp she was stuck in for two years.
Now a year has passed and neither have forgotten each other However Isabelle is in trouble and the only one who can save her is Jack. Being back together isn't something Jack wants He know his life isn't for Isabelle but that doesn't chance how he feels. Together with some other players from the Devlin group they must battle to keep her alive. It's just insanely good.
I have no idea how I didn't know about this series since Stacey's The Kowalski series is one of my all time favorites. I definitely need to go back and read the first couple books. The was a pretty exciting book that plays off of a mission from a previous book and although I didn't read it I had no problem following along with the plot. Ms. Stacey knows how to write a great romance with action and lots of sexual tension. Can't wait to read the rest of this series. My only question is the age difference between the two MCs. It was brought up a few times without actually telling their ages. I guess that was brought up in the previous book.
Background: Jack rescued Isabelle from a horrendous kidnap situation in a prior book. This is the story of how they reunite.
Isabelle is in trouble, big trouble, so she calls Jack and asks for help.
This is an exciting book that kept me reading. It has a sweet ending. Both characters have real personality and Stacey did a great job in the writing. However, it's much the same as so many of the books in this "Alpha Military Male Rescues the Woman" genre that the details fade a few days after reading.
With that said, I believe it is worth buying and worth reading, and definitely one of the more enjoyable books in this genre.
This was a really good book. There was alot of action, the chemistry was great between the two main characters. Isabelle was a strong character and was great throughout the whole ordeal of the things they had to go through. Jack did hid best to deny his feelings for her, but in the end he realized he just couldn't live without her. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
I was given a copy by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I feel like we've waited forever, but I must say - so worth the wait! I LOVE the Devlin Group! No Place To Hide is NO exception. It's intense, action-packed, and sexy. Finally we get Jack and Isabelle's story! Jack gets that mysterious phone call in the middle of the wedding and he rushes off to help Isabelle. Her past is coming back to haunt her and only Jack can protect her (with the Devlin Group's help). Definitely a 5-star book! I hope there's another!!
I really liked this. More than I expected, reading book 4 first. I love this author's Kowalski series but this was different. Action and a little suspense with a good romance in there, too.It was a lot like Christy Reece's Last Chance Rescue books, just not quite as edgy or gritty or complex. Will definitely read the other 3 books. 4.5 stars
