Okay, my kids really like this, I actually am getting rather tired of reading it. It rhymes and has different animals and I've read it probably a hundred times. I am not exaggerating!

My daughter absolutely loved this book. She struggles to read and it was nice to be able to find a book she, a huge dinosaur fan, could relate to. I loved the repetition of words that helped her gain confidence. She usually can't stand the books geared to her reading level finding them boring. This one was the perfect length, she was just starting to get frustrated when she hit the last page. She liked it enough to do the reading words and activities at the end too without complaint.

Basically a short poem with each line illustrated on a different page, this book is short and simple. I found it cute but the illustrations uninteresting and the order of the lines odd - with 'I do not want a pet with fur' before 'cuddle' (image of a puppy, already discounted) and 'purrs' for a cat, again already discounted by 'fur'. It was worth a giggle and is likely fun to repeat aloud.

Every time I would go into the mall when I was younger I would beg my parents to take me into the pet store. We would walk in and I would smash my face against the glass windows, trying to get the cutest dog’s attention. In the children’s book “The Pet That I Want” by Mary Packard, a young boy enters a pet shop trying to look for the perfect pet. The owner of the store approaches and asks how he can help this young boy. As they continue talking the young boy starts to describe his perfect pet. He is hard to please but eventually he is able to find his “perfect” pet!
I thoroughly enjoyed “The Pet That I Want”. I felt that this easy read is relatable and a perfect selection for children. There were many aspects of this book that captured my attention. The first element that I enjoyed was the use of rhyming that was incorporated throughout the text. This language made reading the book fun and entertaining. I also loved the use of color. All of the animals were created with bright and loud color schemes which drew my attention even further. Overall, I would definitely suggest this great book for all children!
