Boys of Summer

Saving Hadley

Rate this book
If suntans, saltwater, and a stubbornly cute guy can't save Hadley's summer, nothing will. Hadley Parrish is having the worst luck ever. Her boyfriend dumped her for social media fame, her stepsister got into Harvard the day Hadley failed chemistry, and now she's been blamed for a crime she didn't do. As punishment, she's sent to Sterling Beach for the summer to learn some "work ethic" and "manners" from her grumpy grandfather who she barely knows. The beautiful beach is no match for Hadley's epically bad mood, and she's determined to spend every second of the summer locked in her room brooding. Her grandfather's only rule is that she has to come out once a week, for Friday night poker. Hadley wants to protest, but then she meets her grandfather's favorite poker player, Jeremy, the unbelievably cute guy who lives next door. Jeremy sees things differently after being granted a miraculous second chance at life. He's not about to let Hadley's bad mood ruin the best years of her life. In fact, he's going to make it his mission to save her this summer. Even if it's the hardest thing he'll ever do. Saving Hadley is a Boys of Summer Novella. If you like enemies-to-lovers, flirty banter, and page-turning sweet romance, this story is for you. It is a novella in the Boys of Summer series, a collaboration between several YA authors. They are all standalone stories that take place in the same fictional town. Escape to Sterling Beach today!

This was another amazing installment to The Boys of Summer series! Hadley is a decent person who happens to have horrible luck and sucks at chemistry. She recently found out that she has to do summer school, got dumped by her boyfriend live on social media, happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and has a pretty crappy family due to the toxicity of her step mother’s influence. As her punishment, she’s sent to Sterling Beach to stay with her grandfather. His only rule is that she has to play weekly poker with him, his neighbor who is her age, and his possible love interest. Jeremy and Hadley’s romance was sweet even though they both had to learn to open up to one another to make things work. I love that this book deals with real life issues that teens go through such as family issues, humiliation, break ups, living up to others expectations, moving in, and toxic relationships. This book had a Cinderella vibe to it and it fit the story perfectly!
Brittany did a great job with this narration! She gave each character depth and brought Hadley’s emotions to life.

Such a cute novella with lots of meaning packed within the pages. I found myself devouring it in one sitting and smiling ear to ear when it ended.

I loved Hadley and felt so bad what she goes through. Im glad she found what she needed in the places she didnt expect.

If you are wanting a heartwarming story with a dash of romance, family love, and emotions then you are in the right spot. Grab you a warm beverage and curl up to this sweet YA novella and be left with a warmth in your heart and a smile on your face.

I had the amazing opportunity to read this book as an ARC and oh man, was it good. I've been waiting it feels like forever to read Saving Hadley (the first book in Boys of Summer series) and when read the book, I thought it was awesome. IT WAS SO WORTH THE WAIT and I can't wait to read the next seven books in the series.
Great job, Amy

Short but good.....

***Not many spoilers; but a few****

When Hadley stated, “The next time I talk to my cousin, I will have to thank her for throwing the party that ruined my life and then somehow brought about the events that saved it.” If you look at it, her cousin did save her life... by letting her go somewhere where she is welcome and loved by a family member and others...

Living with her father wasn’t good for Hadley; for one her dad treated her like crap and let his bean head wife talk crap about his daughter while he treats his step-daughter like she’s the QUEEN OF ENGLAND... I was hoping that she ends up staying in “Sterling Beach” and go to a different school; because for one Jeremy didn’t care about that video and thought her ex was a turd ... which he is... he definitely didn’t deserve Hadley... her sister is to stick up the axx... both her mother got a stick up their axx.... and I wanted to slap her dad back to the time before his stepmom maybe he was a better father before that horrible lady and her stinky daughter. You could tell that her grandpa didn’t like his own son wife and step-daughter.... but at least Hadley was happy in the end she ended up with an awesome boyfriend and a better life.

This is a cute novella that took me no time at all to read and was just the light fluffy romance I needed.
It follows Hadley who is sent to her grandparents after her parents think she passed out drunk from a party (she actually had a migraine but no one bothered to test her so..). But once she is there she actually finds peace with herself and meets the Jeremy who is seriously the sweetest guy.

My only complaint is that I wish this would have been a full book instead of a novella. A lot of things were rushed and not as fleshed out because of the length and I would have just loved to have MORE.

A brand new series of novellas set in the fictional town of Sterling Beach.
One of my favourite authors kicks off with a cute read that deals with the hateful misuse of social media. FYI, Hadley's ex is a real jerk. Along with that is the bridging of the generation gap; Hadley and her grandfather thrown together for a whole summer and the seniors' poker nights with Jeremy, the cute boy next door.
All this makes for an emotional read.

Lovely start to the series!

I really like Hadley and Jeremy, and Hadley's story makes me so glad that smartphones and social media were nowhere near the horizon when I was a teenager... :-s

Hadley's grandpa and his poker friends make a great supporting cast, and I really liked how the story played out in the end.

Super cute, SO fast, and the sweetest hero I've ever read. Not to mention hot and sexy even with a scar, but so sweet and loving. I totally understand her frustration for me and her almost cinderellaian (a seriously Teya word and Grammarly is wiggin' out) story as well.

Very cute read...enjoyed both the growth of Hadley’s character and most of all her relationship with her grandfather. I didn’t want it to end... way to kick off the series!
