Chris's plan for spending a romantic evening with her boyfriend while she babysits falls through after she is stood up, shot at, chased by car thieves, sings in a blues club, and scares off a street gang called the Black Lords.
Thoroughly enjoyable guilty pleasure novelization (based on a screenplay by David Simkins) of the 1987 comedy film that marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus, the screenwriter of "Gremlins", "The Goonies", and "Young Sherlock Holmes" who would go on to direct many blockbusters including "Home Alone" and the first two "Harry Potter" films.
The movie was a minor sleeper hit and featured a winning performance by Elizabeth Shue. The author Elizabeth Faucher does a good job of capturing the movie's charm and breezy humor and really nails the pop culture vibe and vernacular of the mid/late 1980's.
Seen for the 1st time on Disney + think last year when they added it on there in June or may of last year enjoyed it so much watched a few more times now own on DVD don't know who stole the show the most but funny & crazy as all get out, Elisabeth Shue & Penelope ann miller were funny in it, 1st exposure to Keith coogan was Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead back in 200 somethin & Penelope Ann Miller was Kindergarten Cop back in either 2003 or 04, but a heck of a cast, favorite lines don't really have any favorite lines 💘 the entire movie, I'm a true movie fanatic holic, buff whatever.
This is an outstanding adaptation of the movie, although it truly is a straight script to book translation. You get all of the elements but without the visual context some of the jokes and banter doesn't work as well.
Still my SAP soul still teared up at the Thor part.
This is the novelization of the movie and while it is a faithful recreation of what happened on screen, it is lacking somehow. I think it is because the cast of the movie made the story more exciting and real.
I loved the movie and had to read the book too. I love both. There were small differences though that made it a little weird, like what Sarah left in Dan's car.
I grew up loving this book, I still have my original copy and sometimes I will read it again. It's a very cute book for young adults, every girl that wants to be a babysitter should read this.
