This book empowers and encourages children to love themselves, be proud of their uniqueness and other physical differences such as disabilities or skin disorders.
Through the Colors of a Butterfly is a story about a young girl named Unique who feels nervous about starting the third grade in a new school at a new place. On the first day, when her teacher Ms. Mangu selected her as a lucky student and gave her the responsibility to take care of the class pet, a caterpillar. The changing butterfly helps Unique to celebrate her differences and recognize her gifts. Join Unique on a magical journey of self-discovery to find out exactly how unique she truly is. This book is a way to teach children about self-love, self-acceptance, and embrace yourself as you are.

This book tells us how we can prepare our kids for a change when they moved to a new school. I want to admire the author for writing this book and teach kids that they are beautiful in every possible way. Through the colors of a butterfly, the author conveys a beautiful message to children that you all have your own colors, don't need to hide in the cocoon, just come out and show your true colors to the world.

A wonderful story about self confidence and how each one of us is uniquely beautiful 😊
About a girl named Unique who is feeling shy and nervous about going to a new school. When she arrives at her new school she doesn’t really even want to talk, she doesn’t want join in the soccer games... she really feels unsure of herself. The teacher gives her the class pet to take care of, observe and report back to the class about. One night she notices the butterfly 🦋 has emerged from its cocoon and feeling super excited about this amazing turn of events she drifts off to sleep. That night she has a transformative dream, inspired by the class pet she dreams of riding on the back of the beautiful butterfly surrounded by vibrant colors. The butterfly speaks to her and offers some wonderful wisdom that remained with her in the morning. Feeling inspired to be herself despite her differences she walks back into school with a new found confidence and winning attitude. 😃
Going to a new school is definitely a stressful experience for a lot of kids and I love books like this, that recognize that. Confidence is not easy for everyone to find and that’s why stories like this are so important. I loved the concept and the artwork is fantastic. This is really worth picking up and will certainly be an excellent addition to your Children’s Bookshelf.

Magical!

Through the Colors of a Butterfly tells a beautiful story of a little girl named Unique. Through Unique, we learn of the magic we hold inside ourselves and how we should share those magical gifts with the world. Unique, as well as readers, see how colorful we all are.

Unique is different, born with a disability, and while that is a heavy focus, the focus isn’t on the limitations Unique faces. We see so little representation of Black girls (or Black people) with disabilities. While the feature was subtle, it was powerful. Unique’s disability wasn’t something to hide, but it wasn’t pointed out in any obvious way. It was just something that made her who she is.

I also enjoyed the subtle representation in other aspects of the book, such as a Unique living in a single parent household and her sister having her hair in a protective style before bed. These little things make all the difference in a child’s life to see their own stories reflected or see new stories.

I highly recommend this book to read to children of all abilities and races, so they, too, can learn what colors they bring to the world.

Beautiful story

A beautiful story about self acceptance and loving us the way God made us. This will be nice story to read to a young child starting at a new school. It is also a good story to teach about the life cycle of a butterfly.

A good lesson

Beautifully written and a lesson for all. Change can be scary, but is necessary to grow, the young and the old, and those in between.
