Each of six chapters features several boxes explaining the theory behind bioinformatic methods, along with discussion questions, a summary, and suggestions for further reading. It is assumed that the reader has completed an undergraduate course in genetics. The authors teach functional genomics and bioinformatics at North Carolina State University.
