If you like strong heartfelt characters, palace intrigue with a touch of romance, then this book is for you. Alex never wanted to be king but God destined him through many struggles, to become a leader to serve God and country.

Reluctant Ruler is full of twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout the entire book. It truly has it all: an engaging story, multi-layered characters, political intrigue, surprising plot twists, romance, strong suspense, solid world-building, and even a unique magic system.
This book was amazing! It is a beautiful story that truly depicts the struggle of maintaining faith in the midst of grief. Alex, the second son and newly crowned young king, wrestles with the idea that a God who loves him would take both his father and brother from him. Alex is a compelling protagonist because he is flawed and still learning. His doubts, struggles, and emotions are deeply relatable for many readers.
Even readers who don’t typically gravitate toward Christian fiction or fantasy would enjoy this book. Kyle Jackson did a fabulous job weaving scripture and prayer into an action-packed story. I can’t wait for book two!

Reluctant Ruler: The Making of a King is a captivating story that pulled me in from the very first page. Kyle Jackson does a brilliant job of weaving together action, inner conflict, and heartfelt themes of love, duty, and faith.
I especially loved how Alex’s struggles as a newly crowned king felt so real, his doubts, his responsibilities, and the constant tug between following his heart and serving his kingdom. The story isn’t just about battles and politics; it’s also about finding identity and purpose when life takes an unexpected turn.
The writing flows beautifully, and the pace keeps you engaged without ever dragging. By the end, I felt like I had journeyed right alongside Alex, rooting for him through every trial.
If you enjoy faith-driven fiction with depth, heart, and a touch of adventure, this is absolutely a book worth picking up. Highly recommended!
