I acquired this book from a Goodwill in Fairmont, West Virginia. Astonishing But True.

It makes a good coffee table book. Something to read when you can't be fully engaged or don't want to be. Open to any page and go through some quick stories, anecdotes, or factoids. The largest section covers baseball, then about equal parts basketball, football, and golf, and finally some miscellaneous sports stories.

Many of the stories literally had me laughing. That in itself is a good experience. Others were, well, astonishing! It's amazing some of the crazy things that can happen. My favorite was centered around baseball player Eddie Gaedel. If you don't know about him, look it up or read the book!

I think this is a good book because it talks about different sports. The players that was playing in those sport was telling stories about their memories and what caused them to win or not.

SUMMER READING CLUB: "Sports fans of all ages will revel in tehse strange incidents from the worlds of baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, horse racing and even marathon running. ONe memorable incident is that of Rosie Ruiz who took a subway to win the NY Marathon and later also cheated in the Boston Marathon. Dave Bresnaban threw a potato instead of a baseball in order to confuse a runner. This is interesting reading, good for a chuckle on a summer afternoon." -Audrey Du Bovy

Fun collection of "Astonishing But True Sports Stories." Terrific read with "astonishing" stories about baseball, basketball, football and golf. Since I'm not a golfer I skipped over this section.

My favorite section? Baseball of course! Favorite shorts were Don Sutton's teasing the umpire with his spitball, Carlton Fisk's mind games, the mountainious Frank Howard, and Dickie Noles - the first ballplayer who got traded for himself.

A great gift for the true sports fan. Enjoy!

Being a sports nerd, there were only a few things that I had not previously heard about in this book. I was looking for some hockey stories and it contained no chapter for it. In that regard, I was slightly disappointed. Fun and easy bathroom reading though!

This book was really fun to read. I laughed more with every story that I read. I would recomend this book for those who enjoy sport's blooper reels. My favorite stories were all the football mishaps. If you want to know what I'm talking about, read this book!

If you're looking for a literary masterpiece, skip this one. If you're looking for a quick, entertaining read, pick it up. While football is my favorite sport, I found the baseball stories to be the best part of this book.
