The author has beautifully portrayed the story of second chances with realistic and relatable characters. The feelings of the characters have been described well and even supporting characters like Manu’s mother and Tara’s sister have important roles to play in the story.
And the twist in the tale was something that I had not expected.
Enjoyed the story and would love to read more from the author.

Preethi Venugopala is great at writing sweet romances with punch.
This one - Remember When - has all the ingredients to make it a fab read.
There's a natural disaster (the Chennai floods), an angry ex, an unforgiving almost-mum-in-law, a wicked sibling, and - to add to the jumble - there is also an adoring husband and a precious kid. How Tara negotiates the broiling mix is the reason you would do well to pick up this book!

What an emotional roller coaster! This story made me feel fear, sorrow and joy in so many ways. And good to experience its unique setting in a natural disaster we heard so much about.

Seeped in reality 'Remember When' is the story of Tara and Manu which deepens the belief in second chances in life. In the backdrop of Chennai floods, author Preethi Venugopala has penned a beautiful, emotional rollar coaster ride for the readers. I loved the little sinister twist in the end. Highly recommended.

“Remember when I was young and so were you…”
Remembering is what Tara does best, wallowing in the past, a past which has left deep scars on her. Her relationship with Ranjini, her obnoxious sister, is confrontational, as the latter perceives her as a threat, surprising since she is the rich, pampered one who seems to have the better life.
As Tara goes to pick up her five-year-old, Aryan, she runs into her best friend from college, Rupa, who is now an entrepreneur dealing in Kerala art murals. The two friends bond over tea, as secrets from the past tumble out, along with the name of Manu that has never been mentioned in the home of Tara and her husband, Karthik. There is a hint of mystery that tantalizes the reader.

Tara’s first novel is all set to be published in Chennai, on the 1st of December, a long-cherished dream. Much of her childhood has been spent in Kannur. She has memories, good and bad, about that period in her life, when Manu is the luminescent star around which her life revolves. Though they are from different communities, life couldn’t have been more perfect, with Mary, Manu’s rich and widowed mother, also accepting her whole-heartedly.
However, their worlds come crashing down, when one misunderstanding pushes them apart, and Mary and Manu leave for Chennai, leaving their past behind.
However, years later, fate intervenes to bring them together once again, as Tara gets stranded in the floods in Chennai, and is forced to accept Manu’s hospitality to tide over the period. Her son, Aryan, soon wins over Mary and Manu with his winsome personality.
As the floods continue, a few more guests who are stranded in the floods make their way to Manu’s home. This includes Rupa, Tara’s old friend, and her fiancé, Pratheesh. As the water rises, people from the ground floor are evacuated to Manu’s house as well.
Preethi Venugopala narrates a tale that transcends the normal love story, weaving in the Chennai floods as a backdrop. She describes the survival techniques used in the actual floods as a part of Manu’s website. Varun Chinnappa, a popular You Tuber and travel blogger, turns into his enthusiastic assistant as he creates a video on rain catchers and sterilising drinking water that soon goes viral. The stories of the various characters that have been brought together by the floods reveal facets of their lives which sound familiar.
Once the floods recede, it is time for them all to bid adieu to one another. Preethi got me hooked on to her work when I read her Christmas short story .. this book is different from her earlier works .. it’s braver than her earlier works .. five stars for trying something different and acing it 😊

First book of the month and it is far from disappointing. The backdrop of the story are the Chennai floods of 2015 that claimed more than 500 lives. Choosing a real incident for a romance novel and yet doing complete justice to it is the USP of the story. Every character has its own special place in it. Get ready to laugh, cry and resent as this book takes you through an emotional roller coaster. It’s unputdownable.

My Take:
The story pulls you in from the word go. The moment I read the blurb I was sure of getting into a journey of connect, romance and love. Something about the way the author presented the story connects to you. So many layers of emotions and characters entwined together. You feel them, love them, hate them but can't ignore them.
A love story , but full of emotional roller coaster ride, almost like watching a movie. Using the Chennai Flood backdrop makes it more intensive. Your heart goes out for all people in that disaster situation. You can feel their despair and pain.
Madhu and Tara, had a past a very emotional and sensitive one at that. Tara, now a successful blogger goes to Chennai for her book launch only to come face to face with her long lost love.
Not the ones to be confronted they wish to avoid each other, but fate has other plans. They both get struck together in the floods. How they resolve their misunderstandings, who played villain and cataylst in their budding romance and how they deal with the aftermaths form the story.
I loved the pace of the story, the language used and the way the story is intertwined with the various emotions and characters. My heart went out to the lead characters and Aryan. Hated the husband Kartik for what he did and how very cleanly he did what he did.

A touching, second-chance love story with none of the cheesiness.
Tara and Manu were madly in love with each other during their college days in Kannur. Due to various circumstances, they are separated and Tara gets married while Manu cannot be traced.
Fast forward 5 years, Tara is in Chennai to promote her book with her 5 year old son, Aryan. After the moderator of the book launch pulled out in the last minute, Manu, a senior editor with a science portal, is roped in. Both don't know that they will be facing each other after such a long gap.
From the first moment they meet again, it was obvious they still have feelings for each other and nothing much has changed between them - except that Tara is married (though unhappily) and has a child now.
As Tara is about to leave to the airport to catch the flight back to Bangalore, floods hit Chennai - the worst in 100 years. Chennai is stranded and Tara has no other option but to stay with Manu and his mother Mary.
While the city is stranded, other people come to stay with Manu. The rest of the story revolves round how Mary and Manu come to friendly terms with Tara again, how each of the other characters plays a crucial role in supporting one another and the community in the time of crises and otherwise.
The reason why Tara and Manu were separated is revealed and the aftermath is shocking, to say the least.
By the end of the book, Preethi has incorportaed love, greed, jealousy, hatred, karma, suspense, betrayal. This is a perfect, sweet second chance romance novel.

Even though the true love has strength, the only hurdle Is the misunderstanding that can break it in seconds.

Remember when : A forbidden second chance Romance is a mature love story that not just talk about love, but highlights the whole concept of human life and family.
Tara being an aspiring writer impressed me with her ambition.
Whereas her personal life was something I wanted to explore more.
The story maintains it's pace in a proper way so that readers can connect to the plot.
The story gets more intense as the long lost souls come across each other.
The Author has balanced the emotions and reality very well.
Since the Tara was married, any decision taken in heat of the moment could have hurted the sentiments of the vast readers.
The Author has carefully come up with a plot that seems right when we read it.
From the blurb, I was curious to know what took place with the Manu and the book didn't disappoint me.

In this story, our protagonist Tara is a married passionate woman. She is a successful blogger and is now on the verge of successfully releasing her first novel. She came to Chennai for her book launch along with her son Aryan, but fate led her to get stranded in the city because of the disastrous Chennai flood.
This fate made her to meet her childhood love Manu, (in Chennai )from whom she never got recovered. Tara spent her childhood in Kannur where she met Manu and they created a magical bond which eventually grew into profound love between them. But a simple misunderstanding made them part away.
What will happen when they get to meet after years?
The author made a wonderful job with the plot line by intertwining it with emotional aspects. The author also gave us a good characterization, in my opinion, that is the pillar of this story.

This is the story of Manu and Tara and how the fate throws them together to resolve their past misunderstandings. The backdrop of chennai floods seems highly intriguing and interesting to read. It really is a quick and easy read like watching a cute romantic movie although i strongly don’t think that this is a story about love, perhaps more of a story of new beginnings or second chances or maybe even fate. I’m always a sucker for dramatic endings and romance. The bonding between the main characters is described in a heartfelt way. There are some serious moments thrown in there too. The author does a great job weaving the character's lives and reasons for doing what they did. And that led up to an ending you wouldn't see coming! A romantic suspense that is driven by appealing characters who are integral to the story.

The story has a lot of twist and turns will they accept their love again? Why they got seperated? There is a lot to read in this short read and is definitely a page turner .
Overall I really enjoyed this book each character is explained properly, narration done is very well and language used is simple and easy to understand.
