School buses are recognizable features on neighborhood roads throughout the year, and the sight of one often inspires the singing of the song “the wheels on the bus.” This colorful board book takes the lyrics of the refrain of “the wheels on the bus” song and places them on several board pages with accompanying illustrations. Because only a handful of words appears on each page, the text is brief enough to hold the attention of a baby or toddler reader. These words appear in rounded, child-friendly yellow font, matching the hue of the school bus and inviting caregivers to indicate the words with their fingers as they are reading them aloud. The accompanying illustrations depict a school bus full of children navigating the town, stopping at red lights, and eventually ending its journey at school. Along the way, cars and buildings are in the background, and anthropomorphic eyes and faces appear on select objects and animals in the foreground. These additions amplify the child-friendly nature of the book, and while the humans could benefit from greater diversity in appearance, the blocky and cheerful nature of the illustrations is eye-catching nonetheless. The book itself is built on especially thick board pages, and each one includes a tab that makes those pages even easier for small hands to turn. Best for readers already familiar with the melody of “the wheels on the bus,” this is a fun carry-along book for babies and toddlers who love buses.

This one was fine for what it was, but a little lacking in imagination. It is a five page board book with a line from the first verse of The Wheels on the Bus on each page. It is just different illustrations of the same bus, and since the lines mostly repeat, "round and round," there isn't much to it.
