About the author

Candie Cooper is a jewelry designer with a passion for combining unique materials and color combinations, inspired by extensive travel and her years living in China.

Candie is the author of Necklace-ology (Lark Books 2012), Metalworking 101 for Beaders (Lark Books 2009), Felted Jewelry (Lark Books 2007), and Designer Needle Felting (Lark Books 2007).

Candie is the host for the Public Television series Hands On and has appeared on Beads, Baubles and Jewels. Currently she is an adjunct instructor at Manchester College in the art department. She also teaches creative workshops nationally for adults and is in her third year of teaching via the Honeywell Educational Outreach program which provides children opportunities to explore subjects like feltmaking and jewelry making.

The projects in here are very pretty - somewhat due to the beautiful beads that are used. I think the author gives short shrift to the complexities of many of the techniques, particularly soldering and pickling. And there are only three paragraphs on polishing, which to me, is a final step after getting rid of tool marks through successive sanding with finer grits of sand paper, by hand or through mechanical means. I see several sites on her pieces that are sweater-catchers for sure! Some pieces have me worried that it will come apart during wearing, like the Graceful S Clasp. But I do like the technique of making your own bead caps - haven't seen that in other books! There is lots of inspiration that is gleaned from this book.

Beautiful jewelry! I feel like metal/ wirework is the next step that I will take in jewelry making. The directions are clear, there was so much equipment! Still, a really pretty and fun book.
