This is my go-to book when I quickly want to check something about language.
It helps with everything from turning a passive sentence active, to using stronger verbs (e.g. hate very much – abhor) and everything in-between.
The cover says: “A comprehensive English reference book. Language, comprehension, writing, literature, visual literacy, public speaking, spelling and vocabulary. Covers the fundamentals of English and complements any class text. Senior Primary to Matric and Beyond.”
Well, I got this book in high school and still find it relevant more than a decade later.
What I like most about this book is that the rules and explanations are written in a logical format and colour-coded – just like study notes! It makes it easier to remember the language rules.
I definitely recommend this to anyone using writing in English to communicate – whether through email, blogging, non-fiction or fiction.
