Author Merle McCann jumpstarts the mystery in the heat, dead palm trees, and industrial parks of Phoenix. After Alan steals a file of interest to the mob, “thorns of doubt scratched the edges of his confidence.” With my own background as a mystery author, I appreciate vivid, lyrical writing like this that never slows down the novel’s pace and instead immerses readers in the characters. The Washington State setting for heroine Holly is equally ominous and compelling. “Behind her, brakes squealed like an eagle’s scream.” Holly’s rich relationships and the companionship of a new puppy provide a cozy mystery vibe interspersed with terror as mysterious attacks escalate. Flashes of romance intersperse with violent consequences in multiple vibrant settings from California to Louisiana and Texas. And hold onto your hats with the surprise ending!

I have to say Holly Greer is a very inviting character. There is a interesting play between her and the horse farm and the antagonist.You’ll have to read this enticing book to find out how the plot leads us from a horse farm to fraud in the involving the United States Pentagon! What a complicated plot and yummy bad guys!

The Parmeter File story came to me in the middle of the night. As an author, I have found insomnia can be your friend. I was in the middle of recalling some of the adventures I had lived while in the Arabian horse business. One such adventure caused me to wonder "what if," and the story of Holly began to take shape.
