"It was okay." - 2 out of 5 star rating.

This was a gift I received via Physical copy for my birthday.

While the artwork is beautiful and the pages are loaded with a huge array of interesting characters... my biggest issue here #1 is that this 'encyclopedia' only has 1 or 2 entries per letter of the alpha bet.

The move here was splitting these Marvel Encyclopedia's over the span of 5 issues, where the reader only gets a few entries per alphabet letter... as opposed to taking the more conclusive approach of doing A through D, E through H, etc. I would have much rather seen this approach be delivered, versus having to buy all 5 issues and then flipping around in a nonsensical manner as they pick and choose who gets put into what letter spot per issue. Hard dislike here.

Another big issue I have is that only ~50% of the comic is actually an Encyclopedia! The remaining half is 25% filled with two (2) short comics that are mediocre at best... and then the final 25% being 'pin ups' aka, page after page of just artwork and character scene shots.

Mind you, the pin art pages are absolutely stunning. Especially knowing that they come from before the age of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), where we live now. These artists really poured their hearts out onto these pages and delivered some really beautiful art. Sadly, now anyone can just type text into a query and create pretty much an equal level of quality. Super sad.

All in all, not enough Encyclopedia and bad formatting makes this a miss for me. How are you seriously not going to have Nightcrawler in the 'N' section and ask me to buy another comic to fill that gap? You lost me right there.

+1 star for the pencilers. That's it.

Would only recommend if you buy the entire series and you are absolutely a diehard Marvel fan through and through.

Are you a Marvel fan? Want to get into X-Men, but don't know where to start? This book would be an excellent source to begin, covering the basic foundation of every character's backstory and every super group—good and bad— within the universe.

There is a lot of content, but don't get overwhelmed! Take it one Mutant at a time. All characters are listed by alphabetical order within each supergroup (X-Men, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Exiles, New Mutants, and plenty of others), though would prefer to list all characters in alphabetical order and add a subtext of which group they would belong in.

This Marvel Encyclopedia covers over 40 years of X-Men knowledge, and includes a brief introduction of how the comics came into creation. Not to mention blueprints of the Xavier Mansion, and an essential reading guide. A definite recommend to include in your personal library.

this book is awful. it's arranged horribly and the writing is terrible. its obviously a collection of several shorter works, which were alphabetical, but then when collected, weren't combined, so for example to find a certain character, you have to just flip through till you find it. completely worthless for reference or enjoyment. someone at marvel should be fired over this

I love everything Marvel. The storylines are incredible! They have everything you could want: action, adventure, comedy, romance, political intrigue, allegories, metaphors, etc. Some stories drag, some end too soon. This is an interesting look at all things Marvel.

Overall this is a good resource for X-Men fans. There are two new stories and they are enjoyable. I do have one criticism, and that is that the last 40% of the book contains only art. I appreciate the inclusion of this solid artwork, but it comes across as filler in a 128 page book.

I liked this book because shows everything in the x men universe, and it shows all their timelines and who are their enemies and allies.
