Love on the High Plains #2
High Plains Promise
Garden City, Kansas, 1888. Unlucky in love, sisters Allison and Rebecca Spencer have resigned themselves to a spinster lifestyle, replacing their thwarted romances with work, family and friends. Love, however, is not done with the sisters, and a second chance awaits each of them, in the most unexpected place. But danger also stalks Allison and Becky. A band of robbers threatens deadly vengeance on the town, and a more personal threat lies in wait, intent on destruction. When promises fail and danger looms, can love save the sisters from harm? This steamy western romance contains explicit sex scenes.

This book is a standalone but it is part of a series and stories for previous characters and future books in series are touched on.
I wasn't keen on the Hero at all. To me he was spineless.
At the start of the book he and the heroine have plans to marry but he is propositioned by a woman who is well known for being a slut and he learns some skills with her instead of the heroine.
The other woman gets pregnant so he marries her.
The original couple do get together later but he seems to constantly compare her to his first wife even thinking of her lack of sexual experience compared to the first wife who was cheating on him.
There are details of him being with both women.
He doesn't seem to really appreciate the second chance he's been given and treat her like gold.
The heroine just seems so grateful she gets a chance to marry the idiot, he doesn't even really have to grovel or even try too hard.
He needs a wife straight away to care for the first woman's child so it feels like she'll do.
There are several couples stories going on, plus a bank robbery plot and family issues.
I don't think I'll read the other books. He's not my sort of Hero.
HEA.

A Wonderful Follow-up to Book 1 and Lead Into Book 3!
I have read the entire series so far and I love it!
I loved the duel love story in this book. It was honest and heartbreaking through the parallel stories of two sisters in the late 1880's finding love. I thought it showed a real depiction of what it must have been like to navigate romances in that time period. The pressures and attitudes were spot on! You are really drawn into the era and consumed by it entirely.
As far as the characters go, I didn't like everything the couples faced, but it's definitely real life. Despite the failings of the protagonists, I loved them. Each tired to live a good life with integrity and morals, but they were all truly human and therefore, flawed. It made the story more believable and enduring, I felt.
There are still some open questions about certain elements in the book and series. I don't mind though, as that is what the world is like, but also because I know the answers are coming... I can't wait!!!

*Received free from the author in exchange for an honest review*
This is a sequel, and to avoid spoilers, I suggest reading the first Love on the High Plains book. It's worth the time and an enjoyable, easy read if you're not offended by church sermons. As a secular reader with no particular religious affiliation, I still enjoy these stories.
I didn't enjoy this one as much, but that could be a matter of taste.
I found myself loathing Wesley and continuing my dislike of him through the story. I didn't understand his motivations at the beginning and felt he was a weak, pitiful man. He didn't redeem himself at all. The other characters, Kristina, Cody, James, and so on are still there, and you'll see another POV for their individual stories. If you really enjoyed them in Book 1, you'll be pleased to see them again.

I was given a copy of High Plains Promise for an honest review and I can honestly say that I loved it. This author has a way of writing so that you feel as though you’ve been transported into that time period enjoying a story littered with the complicated themes of love, loss, regret, hope and happiness. I loved the character development and how we got to see how their decisions have wonderful but also heartbreaking consequences. We find ourselves watching as their imperfect lives unfold while hoping that they all get that wonderful happy ending that they all deserve. This was a story of romance and struggle with a lot of twists and turns to keep you engaged and entertained throughout. Do yourself a favor and pick up your copy today.

Authentic. Gripping: The American West. A story about people who lived back then. Not about the pioneering, horses and gun-slinging… this is a fascinating tale of the attitudes of the times – of marriage and life. It is wonderfully told, so much so that you forget your real surroundings and are there living the human drama with these people. Weakness and lust, duty and necessity, love and madness… this book is a whirlwind with a hard-hitting climax. Read it.

Great series
I recommend you read the series. They are great books. I love how she mingled the stories together. You will enjoy all of the characters and their individual personalities.

Not Her Best
I read the other books of the author and they were definitely better than this. When I read a romance book it is usually with the expectation of having that feel good in love with love feeling or the emotional journey towards a well-deserved HEA. But the plot and the characters in this book just blew me away with how poorly written their character was.
The hero and heroine were childhood sweethearts and after some heavy petting between them in a barn in comes the villainess and seduces the hero who gives in. Fast forward four years they are portrayed as a married miserable couple with a toxic relationship and a child. But the hero is still friends with the heroine and he still enjoys sleeping with his unfaithful wife but despises her during the day but tries to remain a faithful husband. I guess what the author was going for was a noble husband but the hero just came across as weak with no convictions and has double standards. The villain wife dies and he marries the heroine who has been patient and understanding. And all throughout he was a colossal a**h%le to her. There was even a point where he almost hit her. And yet the heroine just accepts why he was acting the way he was. She gets pregnant and he turns away from her. And still she waits on him and for him. And the. He leaves her with his murderous mother. The heroine gives birth and chases after her mother in law who she thinks kept her baby away from her. Take note this happened immediately after the baby popped out. This was in the 90% plus mark of the book. The hero then says sorry for two pages and all is right in the world. Happy ever after for the two. If an author goes through extensive lengths to build a case against the character of the hero at least follow it up with the balancing effect of groveling and a heroine who at least knows her self worth and makes the hero work for it. I just did not feel at all happy after reading this book. The emotional immaturity of the characters bordered on psychological defect.

Wesley and Allison
This is an adventurous and exciting love story written by Simone Beaudelaire. This is a good story however is is rather steamy in content. Wesley allows his raging teenage harmones overwhelm his judgement. He and Allison were best friend forever, but he was not able to talk her in to giving her virtue with out marriage. He allows himself to be seduced by an acquaintance and she end up marrying because she gets pregnant. Several years later she does under questionable circumstances leaving him with a young daughter. He gets back together with Allison but all does not run smoothly. You will enjoy discovering how they find their happily ever after.

I really enjoyed book 1 but this one was another story. I had this huge rant all planed out but honestly it isn’t even worth it to write when I can sum it up quickly. Wesley was weak and Allison was horribly desperate!!! James and Rebecca has a better story but we don’t see enough of them and just like in book 1, the story ends way too abruptly. There’s no real ending. I understand there’s another book but I think this book should have some kind of ending. It’s just like it was stopped right in the middle of a sentence.

The H was young, in love with a great h. He is weak and has to marry an unpleasant woman, So we have a weak H, sweet h, sick OW who is his wife, they have a sweet little girl. But this plot is a hot mess, just not nice especially with in a devout setting. Too OTT and I didn't like the plot, or the H, or their families. Just all so mean, and they are supposed to be Christians.

Great Book 2 in a Series
This book begins on familiar events from book 1 in Love on the High Plains, but adds more information on things that happened to some of the original characters. I just had to keep reading. I just couldn't put the book down. On to book 3.

Love on the High Plains
High Plains Promise is book 2 of the series by Simone Beaudelaire. I liked the characters and the storyline. The story of the romance between Wesley and Allison was a different. Theirs had sorrow and drama that made you wonder what could happen next.

Mixed feelings
The story was well written but I found one of the characters weak will as a distraction rather than a plus. Ending was a surprise to me.

I know this is only a make believe story but........
I kept asking (the kindle) why this or why did they do that. How could they be so stupid or not think this or that.
The author makes these stories too real. She is so good at that. I have book 3 to read yet.
The first part of the book was a small rehash of the first book, told from a slightly different approach. A well told story with a really good ending.
