These heartfelt words from Fred Bauer's memorial tribute to Helen Steiner Rice express so well the feelings of millions of readers whose lives have been touched by the gifted lady from Ohio. Many of the verses in this collection were suggested by Mrs. Rice herself, and some have never appeared in book form before.
Gramma gave this to me when I was young as it always brought her comfort when she was down and Helen Steiner Rice was one of her favorite poets. It's a lovely book if you can find a copy.
Poems of Faith is a lovely, enjoyable collection of poetry.
Most of the poems were pleasant and uplifting. Some were comforting for troubled times. All of them were thoughtful. Included alongside of these poems were green illustrations and sometimes photographs of flowers. I found that I was more familiar with Rice's work than I'd realized, as I've heard many of these poems throughout my life. Some might describe Rice's poems as having a "Grandma Style", but I quite enjoyed reading them.
If I find more of Rice's work, I'll pick it up to read. I'd recommend this collection to anyone who enjoys faith-based poetry, particularly with rhyme and structure.
This book and author had seemingly good reviews, but I really didn’t enjoy it. It felt like I was reading Dr.Seuss more than deep spiritual poetry. I did enjoy the simplicity of the artwork where the flowers are vaguely colored green in and outside of the lines.
I’ve used her poems to get through some very challenging times in my life and keep it close. It’s one of those books that I keep a tight grip on. If I ever get rid of it, it will be as a gift to someone who I know will love it as much as I did.
