Darcy's Elusive Bride: Pride & Prejudice Variation
Darcy pursues Elizabeth, who flees malicious rumors about a stormy night alone with Darcy, in order to protect Georgiana’s betrothal. Let's begin with me. Fun Fact: I rarely read reviews or book blurbs I just see someone on Goodreads read the book I try a sample and if I like I read it. It's a haphazard way to go through life but there you are.
Anyway that's how the sample ended up on my Kindle and being bored to tears by the book I am attempting to read for the second time because I own it; Surrounded by Enemies: What if Kennedy Survived Dallas?, I decided I deserved a break and tried Darcy's Elusive Bride, And it is quick, fast read. But it had continuity issues that drove me mad. Then at the end I learned it had two authors. Now I didn't research this in any way but if feels like a story that people alternated Chapters and somewhere along the way stuff was lost.
Onto the story. We open with Darcy chastising Georgie that if she doesn't shape up her intellectual behavior that her potential groom's parents will deny them their engagement. Ahh see Georgie is one of those gals who just likes to hang around with other smart women and talk about rights and philosophy and stuff not fashion and gossip. Meanwhile back in Meryton Lizzy Bennet is debating whether or not to marry a shop keeper for security.
Innocuous and a bit disappointing.

This story features an incredibly stubborn Elizabeth Bennet, who must make some significant life choices. After her parents both passed, she must marry as soon as possible or take a position.
The timeline starts after the rejection at Hunsford and Darcy would go through great lengths to bring her into his life permanently.
I had a hard time reading this book - Elizabeth was stubborn almost to the point of childish, there was a train wreck of ball, and there were extra characters that didn't quite contribute to the story.

“Darcy’s Elusive Bride” is a story about Fitzwilliam Darcy’s pursuit of Elizabeth Bennet, a woman who is certainly elusive. But, is she attainable? Is there any occasion for hope?
The story begins at an undefined time after the Hunsford proposal. That backstory is not recounted but it seems to have occurred. Both the Bennet parents have passed. Lydia has married an officer. Mary has taken a position as a governess. Jane is in London and may be soon betrothed. None of these three sisters actually make an appearance.
Elizabeth and Kitty have been allowed to remain at Longbourn and reside with Charlotte and William Collins. Their positions may be as companion and governess to the couple’s children. Friendship is somewhat strained but still in evidence. It is obvious that Collins would like the sisters married and out of his house.
Elizabeth ponders an offer of marriage to a good man but not someone she could love.
In order to consider her options (marriage or employment), Elizabeth takes Kitty on an extended visit to a family friend in … Lambton, of all places.
Of course, the sisters will meet the Darcys and the elusive ritual begins.
The book needs as many coincidences to reach a happy ending as Jane Austen did in the original. I did enjoy the chase.

What to say, a good trope but not a good narration. I've read some real goodjooks with Elizabeth as a companion trope. But the thing in this story is, Elizabeth meets Darcy before taking up a position, meets him, gets rescued by him, made welcome by his sister and even gets kissed hy him. But she chooses to run away for the stupidest of reasons, which was still there when she finally agrees yo marry him. I didn't know if I should hit Elizabeth over the head for running away or Darcy for letting her or myself for reading this. And there are so many discrepancies in the story. The author was not sure if she's continuing from the canon or a totally changed back story.
1. In the beginning, Jane was supposedly courted by a solicitor but midway it changed to her having no prospects.
2. Mary was staying at Gardiners and suddenly she is a governess to a vicar's children.
3. Lydia is married to a soldier respectably but suddenly she eloped with one.
4. Kitty informs that Charlotte married Collins and is the current mistress of Longbourn then we come to know that he proposed to Elizabeth at Hunsford, so how come he didn't know about Charlotte?
5. Elizabeth says she didn't know the proximity of Pemberley to Lambton to Darcy but then when she meets Georgiana she recalls meeting her at Pemberley but then Georgiana talks about being with her at Meryton. Where the hell did these people meet?
You get really confused with guessing the backstory that it distracts you from what is happening, not that it would have made sense otherwise.

Enjoyable Read
3.5* rating —A good story and plot with a bit of angst. No Bennet parents, Lydia or Mary. Elizabeth manages to keep running from Darcy to avoid possible scandal for him and Georgiana, who has a less shy portrayal in this tale. Darcy never gives up the chase once she is back in his life, refusing to lose her again.
I enjoyed it.

It had been 2 years since the disastrous proposal. The Bennet ladies are orphans. Lizzy and Kitty were living with Mr. & Mrs. Collins at Longbourn. Mary and Jane are working with children and Lydia is the only one married.Lizzy, deciding between being a companion/governess vs marrying a shop keeper, travelled with Kitty to Lambton and got reacquainted with GD and FD. Rumors arose and she fled.
Most of the story I feel happened in Derbyshire. Mr. Darcy kept waiting to propose again to Lizzy. Reasons for waiting: to quell the rumors, be assured he wasn't turned down again, etc. In the process, he misses Lizzy everytime. I say it is one thing to be patient but in this case I think it was procrastination. I think his troubles were well-deserved ;) But it also proved his intention and hope, thought that was romantic.
A few things mentioned that I wasn't sure of - EB familiar with Pemberley and met GD there too, aside from in Netherfield. It was also mentioned that EBD and FD being in Netherfield close to end of the story. There was no mention of what happened to Mr. Bingley or why he didn't return to Jane (or if he will) .
Nevertheless, it was an entertaining story of ODC. All the minor details were insignificant compared to the love story. Strongly recommend for P & P fans to read.

Misunderstandings
A lot of misunderstandings keep Lizzy and Darcy apart. Darcy’s sister is a bit off with all the agreeable traits her fiancé’s family would like making the situation of the pending wedding on hold. Miss Bingley is friends with the Darcy’s which is really odd and she starts rumors about Elizabeth. The Bennet’s situations are really difficult making Elizabeth feel responsible to support her family.
I felt the ending was short and not resolved explaining the points that should have been addressed. All this running around because of gossip and then...the end. I was left wanting.

In this P&P sequel two years have passed, with the Hunsford proposal only a memory, and the Bennet parents dead, resulting in the Collinses in Longbourn.
With only Elizabeth and Kitty Bennet left at Longbourn they decide to travel to Lambton to visit a friend. Circumstances lead them to meet the Darcy's again. Can there be a happy ending even though it seems that Elizabeth still hasn't matured.
I did have trouble finishing as there were too many inconsistencies in the story.

I enjoyed this!
Certainly, a Pride and Prejudice story will have situations that seem a bit ... serendipitous. But coincidences seem to follow Darcy and Elizabeth even in the original. I found this story to be quite entertaining.

An interesting re-tell.
These re-tells of classic stories have a kind of hit and miss for me. This one was pretty good and I enjoyed it. The cast of characters worked well together and Elizabeth did give our hero a run for his money. It is not badly written and the story flows well I also found it very entertaining. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

A good light read. Not a lot of angst. Which was good for a change, enjoyable quick read. Would have liked to see more character development. Would like to have seen Caroline get a good st down.

Melancholy but also charming
Well written bitter-sweet version of odc's journey towards each other along a path strewn with pit falls. Characters true to form although a subdued Elizabeth , missed her sparkle a little. But ultimately satisfying.

Sweet is right
A nice variation, low on angst and a bit predictable--even the twist (no spoilers). Col. Fitzwilliam is the most interesting part of the story.

I loved it
Great love story, I loved this Darcy he was not a quitter when he made up his mind. Lizzy was good in this story and the colonel and Georgiana were just plain awesome!!
