Hugh Rigby and Susan Leibtag's (1994) edited collection HardWear: The Art of Prevention displays a range of condom adverts, copy campaigns, and product packaging from the 1980s and 90s. The collection demonstrates the many rigorous tactical approaches for exposing sexual cultures to the necessity and usefulness of condoms. It provides an excellent, short history of the condom in the introduction. It then leaves the various adverts and images to present their messages as such. Ranging from issues ...more
