Beverley Randell is a New Zealand children's author, whose work has been published by 16 publishers in several languages In 2004 she was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to children's literature and education, and to date over two million copies of her books have been sold.
Extremely dry book about different ways young children get to school: walk, wheelchair, car, taxi,* bus, etc. The layouts are extremely simple: Every spread is "I go to school (by ___)." on the left page, and a photo on the right page.
I suppose it's good for learning by repetition, but my usual feelings on VERY short books still holds: This is budget material for a classroom, not something a parent would buy for their kids for a gift (unless it's a homeschooling kind of gift). There's no story, and I can't imagine any young reader becoming attached to the "characters" (who are no doubt the ones taking THEIR young readers to school now). Can't imagine why the local elementary offloaded so many of these in their free library!
*The taxi feels like either, "I'm rich!" or "My dad is the driver."
