With the exquisite prose and poetry that has always graced her writing, Joyce Rupp mines the multiple meanings of important images in the Bible, in order to get us through our own rough moments. Included the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, Jesus lost in the temple, Mary seeing Jesus carrying the cross, Mary at the foot of the cross, Mary receiving Jesus' dead body, and Jesus being laid in the tomb.
Joyce Rupp is well known for her work as a writer, a spiritual "midwife," and retreat and conference speaker. She has led retreats throughout North America, as well as in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Joyce has a B.A. in English, a M.R.E. in Religious Education, and a M.A. in Transpersonal Psychology. This book is amazing. I love Joyce Rupp. Reading her take on the life of Christ from The Blessed Mother’s point of view was well done. If you are struggling or trying to help a loved one struggling this book is for you
This is a beautiful book about the reality of sorrow within Mary's life but also in the life of each person. Joyce Rupp's analysis and the connections she makes shows how transformative suffering is if we acknowledge it, allow ourselves to be vulnerable and are willing to walk with others and allow them to walk with us in sorrow.
A beautiful book that relates our challenges with Mary. I found it very comforting. I particularly liked the dialogue to self. Joyce Rupp has a language that can touch the soul.
This book helped me to experience intense healing regarding numerous life situations. It is very special to me because it was gifted to me at the end of my 30 day silent retreat because my spiritual director had given me the chapter on the sorrow of Mary surrounding laying Jesus in the tomb to pray with during my retreat and it was very fruitful.
Excellent and so beautifully written. This book is for anyone going through a loss of any kind. It's comfort, a deeper understanding, a prayer. The words are exceptional. I'll always have this book near.
