The Holgate family are Londoners who decide they want to be farmers. This is the author's second book, describing life on their small farm.
Holgate writes very realistically about the challenges they face, with a nice mix of funny, heart-warming and cautionary tales. I really appreciated that the family made the effort to learn how to farm properly - I've read far too many of these kinds of books where the new farmer ignores expert advice, messes around and often ends up causing suffering to their livestock, but the Holgates tried really hard to be responsible farmers.
The author isn't afraid to tell a funny story against himself, and there is plenty of humour throughout the book, but it is always kind. Recommended to anyone who enjoys tales of country or farming life.

The second amusing chronicle of tales from “townie” turned farmer; John Holgate.
