Mooncat and Me

Rate this book
With colourful pages thronging with modern city life, Mooncat and Me tells the story of Pearl as she overcomes the anxiety of moving house and starting a new school, with the help of a giant white cat.We can all empathise with Pearl's fear that 'I won't know anyone, and no one will know me' but as we watch her grow in confidence, we will learn that with a bit of imagination and determination, there's nothing we can't do.The gorgeous, brightly coloured illustrations are full of busy people filling pavements and buses and cars, or seen through the windows of their homes, leading their different lives. Mooncat's own calm and reassuring presence encourages Pearl to explore the vibrant city with her mother, and to face school, where she soon finds there are friends to be made.

I do seem to like oversize animals and the cover of this book brought back memories of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

In this story, Pearl loves cats and a bunch of other things but doesn't like moving house and is nervous about starting a new school. One morning she meets a great big cat that she names Mooncat and with the security of his company she begins to explore the city and grow in confidence, so that by her first day of school she is open to engaging with the other children and has a lot of fun. But then she realises Mooncat is no longer with her - until she realises he is the moon and was there all along.

I really liked this story of finding your feet and your way in a new place.

A little odd, but who doesn't need a special friend in a strange place?

I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.

This beautiful book is all about the anxieties of moving to a new city. I (of course) loved the Mooncat, not only a beautiful depiction but a cool way to use negative space throughout the book. A great new way to deal with moving to a new city and adjusting to a new life through an imaginary friend.

Cute story about the fears that come from moving to a new place. Not sure what Mooncat was though, the kid facing her fears?
