For my trip to Cancún and Cozumel I was interested in adventures such as snorkeling and exploring beaches, cenotes, and ruins – activities that were covered only very lightly by this book, which focused mostly on lodging, bars, and places to eat.

I had a great time in the area, but this book didn't help much.

The book gives you insights on the ancient ruins of Chichén Itzá, and climbing the second-highest Maya pyramid at Cobá.

Also more natural adventures, such as kayaking through mangrove forests, snorkeling with whale sharks, and diving into pristine coral reefs full of sea life.

Then more relaxed activities such as tanning on the best beaches of Cancún with a margarita, indulging in a picnic of tacos and empanadas, or dancing the night away in a vibrant club.

It has some of the best maps of the ancient ruins that I have seen compared to other travel books.

The authors did a thorough review of hotels, cities, sites, beaches, and more.

I think it is the best guide out there for this area of Mexico.

Of the 3 travel books I read about Tulum & the surrounding areas (the other 2 were Fodor's & Lonely Planet) I found this one the more detailed. I appreciated the hotel recommendations, maps, and self-guided tours of archeological sites.
