Unrelenting family pressure sees Cassandra about to be married off to someone she doesn’t love. Bravely she decides to masquerade as a governess to Jonathan Anderson’s small daughter, but he has secrets of his own. Is Cassie safe at Martlesham Hall or has she walked into a different kind of danger? Regency Romance Novella by Fenella Miller; originally published by D C Thomson [England]
Fenella Jane Miller was born in the Isle of Man. Her father was a Yorkshire man and her mother the daughter of a Rajah. She has worked as a nanny, cleaner, field worker, hotelier, chef, secondary and primary teacher and is now a full time writer.
She has over twenty five Regency romantic adventures published plus one Jane Austen re-telling and one YA romantic fantasy.
This was a somewhat engrossing story but everything seems to develop or be resolved in a relatively short period of time so there's not much tension or suspense to involve the reader more fully. Even the abduction scene didn't draw me in fully. I never felt that Cassie was in any true danger. This was a pleasant way to pass the time but by the end I didn't feel very moved. It's almost like empty calories that one consumes. A delight while it lasts but soon forgotten.
