Diamonds are Forever: The Complete Trilogy (

A DARK MAFIA ROMANCE

Men like us, we see things.
We do things, things that make us unfeeling.

That's the price of power and money, of living la belle vie and running the French mafia. Then she came along like a pretty wildflower pushing through the cracks on a dirty pavement - fragile yet resilient, a breath of beauty among the filth. She was supposed to be just another job, a nameless person I was to pluck from her life and hand to my brother, nothing but a pawn in the gamble of our diamond business.

There's a psychological label for men like us.
We lack empathy and guilt.
We do things to have what we want, things that make flowers wilt.

Charmaine loves to write dark and edgy romance that will melt both your e-reader and your heart.

She's a mom of two teenagers, an adorable dog, and a dominant cat. Her country of birth is South Africa where many of her stories play off. Her French husband kidnapped her to the south of France where she currently lives with her family.

When she's not writing, you'll find her in the kitchen baking cakes or in the gym lifting weights (because ... all those cakes!).

This is my first time reading/ listening to books by Ms. Paul's. I wish I could give this series 10 stars. This dark, psychological mafia series checked off all my cerebral parameters for above par expectations on the caliber of exceptional fictional literature.

The relationship between Maxime and Zoe over the three books takes a one eighty degree transformation of cat and mouse. I am not revealing anything else without giving spoilers.

I know listening to this series profoundly affected me more than if I would of read the books. The narrators Adara Stevens and Lee Turner Smith were exceptional. Lee had a French accent for Maxime and voiced an English accent for Damian. Adara had an English accent for Zoe.

If you are not convinced I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series after reading the above then dark romance is not your preference.

Bk 1
Zoe and Maxime this book is on fire! The beginning pace is super fast and actually this entire first installment is! This has everything I look for in a mafia book. Anti heroes, pawned heroines. Plus its set in France which is a nice change for me. I just would have liked to see more of the couple developing. With the cliffy ending, I'll be sure to be back for the next one!

Bk 2
I loved this one starts off right where book one Diamonds in the Dust ended. I totally didn't expect the plot twist though. I'd be FURIOUS if I was Zoe. I'm loving how fast paced and action packed this story is and I can't wait to read the conclusion.

Bk 3
I really enjoyed this series. I loved the surprises that happened in this book. It was also fast paced and left off where book 2 ended (thank you Charmaine for the summary!) I loved how gritty and raw this book is, Charmaine doesn't shy from details. Can't wait to see what Charmaine brings next.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Diamonds in the Dust
Maxime is a man who will stop at nothing to get power and money. Zoe was supposed to be just another job for him, a pawn to be used and discarded. But Zoe is so different than any woman he has encountered, so he makes a decision that will change their lives in unpredictable ways. Zoe is entrapped by Maxime, she is affraid of what he is capable of, but also can't help be fascinated by him. She realises he is a dangerous and unpredictable man, who won't hesitate to punish her if she disobeys him. She wants to survive, but she's in danger of losing her heart to a man who has no heart! An emotional and gripping story about a man who thinks he is incapable of love and a woman who hasn't lost hope that she'll find love. Maxime and Zoe couldn't be more different but they have undeniable chemistry! The first book in their trilogy is absolutely stunning!
Diamonds in the Rough
Zoe has been through difficult situations all her life, but managed to overcome them and survive. She used to have dreams and hope for the future, but that was before Maxime. Now her heart and her very existence are in the hands of a mysterious man, who has no qualms to possess her in his own terms. She has given him everything and feels that all she got in return is betrayal! She can't live without him, but staying with him seems unbearable. Can she escape her fate and what is the price she will have to pay?
Gripping and breathtaking, Diamonds in the Rough is brimming with passion and angst! Zoe is so strong and resilient, I admired her so much! Her heart is breaking but she finds the will to pick up her pieces and fight for her survival! Maxime has never felt love. He wants to protect Zoe from his enemies, but he is unable to protect her from himself. He feels for her what he has not felt for any woman, but he can't give in to his feelings. Their life is filled with danger and violence. What will the future bring?
Diamonds are Forever
Zoe has picked up the pieces of her life, and is trying to make a new beginning. But Maxime can't imagine life without her and he is determined to claim her, even using her feelings for him against her. A powerful man, Maxime is willing to do anything in order to possess her. The only thing he can't promise is to love her! Will Zoe prove him wrong? Maxime had everything planned out for his life with Zoe, and he was certain that she would obey him. But her childhood and her life with Maxime changed her, and she wants to live her life on her own terms. Gritty and brimming with passion, Maxime and Zoe's story is intense and twisted. The book had unexpected twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat!

What happens when you kiss a frog prince and he keeps turning back into a frog?

Charmaine Pauls delivers her most complicated anti-hero and most adorable heroine to date in this very dark and twisted modern fairy tale romance. This is definitely my favourite of Charmaine’s stories so far!!

Zoe Hart is alone and destitute, her meagre seamstress salary allowing her only two tomatoes and an apple for her next meal. But the drudgery of her surroundings has not diminished her dreams of some day designing princess dresses and meeting a proverbial prince on a white stead who will carry her out of the squalor.

Instead, he arrives in an armoured black Mercedes flanked by two shady henchmen. Maxime Belshaw does indeed carry her away, but not in the love-at-first-sight fantasy that she imagined. Max is a psychopath who is waylaid by his fascination with Zoe’s inherent goodness and optimism.

***”She’s a pretty little daisy that pushes through a crack on a dirty pavement, resilient and beautiful, surviving against the odds.”

“I want to know how she can still believe in something beautiful, in anything at all, when everything around her is dilapidated. Maybe, just maybe, if I know her secret, I’ll know how to be happy. Maybe if I can catch her spirit, I can steal her dreams and make her hope mine.”***

So, instead of delivering Zoe to his brother as intended in his original criminal plan, Max takes on Zoe for himself and embarks on a completely different, yet equally dastardly, criminal plan. Max’s sense of right and wrong is, hmmm ..., non-existent. In its place is a firm but misplaced self-righteousness. When he tries to make his new “little flower” happy, he deceives, dictates, and manipulates; and when Zoe isn’t suitably appreciative of his efforts, he seems genuinely put out and reacts punitively. Poor Zoe! What happens when you kiss a frog prince and he keeps turning back into a frog? For her part, Zoe’s actions demonstrate resilience, sass, kindness and honour. I just love loving Zoe and I love hating Max!

Charmaine beautifully captures the battle of wills between one who can’t feel and one who feels deeply and relentlessly. Her storytelling is not just a sequence of intriguing events. It is a journey into the minds of two very thoroughly envisioned characters who defy type-casting. Maxime and Zoe’s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions are vividly conjured even as they shift and grow and re-evaluate their positions. Her words are pure poetry.

This is book 2,3,4 of the Diamond Magnate Novels (recommended read, bully romance, captor/captive, Dom/sub, punishment/reward, m/f, monogamy, 4/5 spice)

This series is not for everyone. It is heavy in the bully romance and even arguably crosses into Stockholm Syndrome territory, but the captors have redeemable qualities and passion and love makes up for it.

This trilogy was my favourite of the Diamond Magnate novels. The up’s and downs over the years and storyline is excellent. The erotic scenes were well written and exciting. A perfect proportion between story and spicy scenes.

Charmaine Pauls - Diamonds are Forever Boxset

The Diamonds are Forever series was everything I ever wished to read in a romance trilogy. Troubled characters, interesting plot, everlasting love and lots of angst. A true masterpiece.

Each book was sophisticated, well written and thought out. The plot is not similar to anything I've read before and I read alot of mafia romances. Their journey was full of ups and downs, and through that both characters grew together and alone. The character progress for both main characters were phenomenal. From the first book til the last, the gradual progression. Our heroine was a diamond in the dust who grew stronger from the roughness of his world to changing into hard exterior to adapt to her circumstances. Whereas the hero was a stone cold killer with a heart of ice who grew a conscious overtime and his emotions evolved from unfeeling to compassion and love. His character was uncut and rough around the edges but smooth and suave to the outside world. His alpha aura was in your face like a big sparkling diamond.

I enjoyed reading their highs and lows and all the angsty moments. Their love grew from something artificial to becoming a rare gem that symbolised strength. It was true and genuine. This couple is everything. Their relationship is complicated, beautiful and soulshattering. If you like selfish and heartless heros and optimistic down trodden heroines, you'll love their hopeless journey to... forever.

Diamonds are forever and so is their love. Diamonds are forged through hardship - high pressure and intense heat in extreme conditions. It built character and a rock solid foundation to their unique relationship. The series has so much depth itll warm you up like a bowl of hot broth on a cold winters day. I cant say this enough. Best series of 2020. My absolute favourite.

I didnt want this to end. I love the authors writing style, and character development. Nothing was predictable and I was constantly at the edge of my seat. I absolutely loved these book, it was a perfect way to conclude their love story. I devoured each book in one sitting. It was unputdownable and I cant recommend this series enough!

5 stars across the board.

This is a an unusual on the edge of insanity romance. A mafia underboss and a sweet innocent young lady who born into a severally dysfunctional family and yet grew in desperate poverty and still turned out to be kind, thoughtful, full of hope and a survivor. They start upon a tumultuous and dangerous relationship. Lies, manipulation, deceit, betrayal, murder, obsession, tell me who could live in that type of environment and not become jaded. I was pleasantly surprised that the main male character was not a handsome rock your socks off type of man. He is described as not good looking and yet the young lady fell in love with a part of him that he had thought was dead. When she realized the entirety of his personality thing went off the rails. He seems not to deserve any sympathy and yet what he felt and went through was real and it devastatingly altered the course of his life and hundreds of others that he walked away from. For her and only her. A sacrifice I dare not many in his shoes could make. She tried to run and hide and he always found her. All of this was based on buying and receiving the exquisitely most perfect diamonds. When I read the first book I was hooked. I bought the whole series and binged read till the end. This is an amazing wild ride on the rollercoaster that rolls between the darkness and the light. You will not be disappointed. I highly recommend it .

Reason I love this series:
Original
Unpredictable
Wonderful characters
Unexpectedly realistic
Steamy
Page turner
Twisted
Action packed
Tragic
Scary
Inspirational

Welcome back to A Diamond Magnate Series world. Diamonds are Forever Trilogy is a second installment set that follows Zoe, Damian’s younger sister, and Maxime, French mafia boss-to-be. It’s supposed to be an easy, straight forward deal, using Zoe as a pawn in the game, becoming sth more serious, complicated, with manipulations and psychological doings.
This is a dark, dark romance, compelling and intriguing, captivating and fast paced storyline. Dangerous, violent and unpredictable. There is passion, sexual tension and chemistry, love however labeled. But as well fear, threats, punishments, lies, deception and the unknown of tomorrow.
Charmaine Pauls did a remarkable job writing Maxime and Zoe characters, so unique, exceptional and detailed about flaws and beauty, choices, actions and decisions. Maxime is that type of anti-hero you love one moment to hate him the other, and repeat the process. Zoe is not so fragile, weak or clueless how some would consider her as such. I loved how she was able to pick up her fight at the right moment and make the right choice for herself. Their feelings and emotions are so raw, so palpable, it only intensified my reading. No surprises, I couldn't put the book down and finished reading fast.
Diamonds are Forever Trilogy:
Diamonds in the Dust. (book 1)
Diamonds in the Rough. (book 2)
Diamonds are Forever. (book 3)
Warning: Book 1&2 ends with cliffhangers.

Utterly Impressive!

This is how I want a mafia love story to be. There are too many where the guy becomes passive while in love. That isn't Maxime at all. He is strong, virile, possessive and manipulative. He loves; he just doesn't know it for the longest time. I love how the author added in a psychiatrist to be Maxime's conscience until he was able to identify his own. Zoe's character is a work of art. The development from girl to womanhood is rough, but the payout for the reader incredible to be graced with her journey. I have been blessed to read their love story. It kept me enthralled for two days, barely able to put it down. The whole story fed me with its beauty, but the second book completely slayed me. Thank you, Charmaine Pauls for writing a keeper I will reread many more times.

Many people don't like dark romances and criticise them because 'who falls in love with a villain'?

Last time I checked, I read stories to escape, and who knows what truly happens in Mafia circles. What I know is that Charmaine beautifully crafts a story where you feel every emotion of love and hate and everything in between. By the end, you're begging for the happy ever after because we all crave that.

I loved Maxime and Zoe's story. They were both so relatable - Zoe's jealousy even though she shouldn't be by rights—Maxime's uncertainty about his feelings even though you can tell where it is headed.

I can understand why so many of Charmaine's dedicated readers fell in love with Maxime.

Maxime & Zoe

I enjoyed reading the ups and downs of the relationship with Maxime and Zoe in this trilogy. I’m not always a fan of trilogies but I’ve read books by this author before so I knew this trilogy would be good. This trilogy kept my attention with the interesting plot, passion, betrayal, and heartbreak it had. It did contain a few minor typos but not enough to interrupt the flow of the book or influence my rating. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

Okay I admit it, I nearly stopped reading this book as the hero wasn’t conventionally attractive or even deemed to be attractive (lol am I too superficial??), but then I got past that and I’m sooo glad I did. Loved this series and Zoe’s & Max’s dark romance. The last book was just 🥰🥰🥰, I grovelling men 🤣

Also liked that Max knew everything about Zoe & just tried to make her happy (in his fucked up way) Also I didn’t expect the last books turn of events!!

Loved it!

I love the authors ability to place me in the story. It is a great escape from my reality. I loved the twists and turns throughout the story, however I feel the ending was a bit rushed. Looking to read more of her work. There should be a series set up of the diamond and stolen books as they are related characters. I am a sucker for returning characters!

I am a huge fan of Charmain Pauls' books and writing. But this series didn't do it for me. I think this was partly due to me listening to the audio, because neither of the narrators were good to me. But it was also partly due to the story. In book 2 there was a bit of other woman drama, which I never like, and in book 3, it felt like I was missing something big that had happened. I just didn't understand why all of a sudden Zoe was acting so angry and childish. I loved book 1, but the other two really let me down.

I am very happy to read Maxima and Zoe's story.

I am waiting on the finale for Ian and Cas, and was happy to find Zoe and Damian's. Well maybe not Damian's yet it seems like. We will see.
