Modern Retro: Living With Mid-century Modern Style

Rate this book
In recent years, mid-century modern furniture, glass, ceramics, and textiles have become extremely popular among those who appreciate their stylish contribution to the contemporary home. "Modern Retro" will inspire you to create a look that combines modern classics by such visionaries as the Eameses, Bertoia, and Aalto with yard-sale treasures and the best of contemporary design. Created by modern clasics dealer Andrew Weaving and disign commentator Neil Bingham, "Modern Retro" is not about slavishly recreating a period feel. Instead, it shows how to take the best designs fromt he 1920's to the 1970's and use them throughout your home in a relaxed and individual way, making the most of the gloriously eclectic form, colours, and patterns available. *An inspiring guide to using mid-20th-centry furniture and decoration in your home. *Beautiful photography by Andrew Wood.

This book does an excellent job presenting mid-century modern design and suggestions on how to decorate to fit houses of that era. The authors first present a review of early 20th century design and how it lead to mid-century design as we now know it. They then present the "Ingredients of the Modern Retro Look" including furniture, lighting, rugs etc. before moving on the specific room designs. The book is full of gorgeous photos of interiors, which are sure to be appreciated by people owning mid-century houses or trying to recreate the look. The styles presented vary from neutrals to bright colors, as well as from minimalist styles to more lived-in decors. The book is sure to provide plenty of ideas.

As someone who is living with mid-century modern style, sort of like one lives with an odd mole or grey hair, I appreciate this book bringing color to and working with all this wood furniture.
It's even starting to grow on me.
Good book.

Beautifully photographed brief overview of the span of mid-century modern. Presents a comfortable/live with it approach rather than a curatorial one.
