Julian Westall's training approach respects the individuality, temperament and nature of each horse. In many ways, utilizing this approach presents a greater challenge for the trainer as he or she must develop and rely upon his or her own skills in observation, judgement and understanding to become, in short, a thinking trainer. But the rewards are great as a confident, thoughtful trainer and, in turn, a confident, well-adjusted and well-rounded young horse with a future. An excellent addition to any serious horse person's bookshelf.
One of the few really useful & helpful books on equestrian training--& I had the pleasure of riding with Mr. Westall. And to watch him work a horse in-hand was pure delight. He had such beautiful, soft, & expressive hands, which horses loved. Easily one of the most gifted equestrians in all of the Mid-Atlantic.
Very good book. The process Julian goes through is similar to what my training process has evolved into. He has lots of "how to train" this and "when to train" that. I find the book very useful.
