There are three things that Dr. Briony Theale loves. Her job as a veterinarian, a good bar of rich, dark chocolate, and Rico, the new ranger in charge of the Wildlife Rescue center. When a casual dinner with the mysterious Rico turns surprisingly intimate, Briony realizes that she might just have a chance with him after all, if only she could lose a few pounds. It's the ul ...more

**** Sex and Chocolate****

description

Ranger Rico has the hots for the local vet Briony. She's extra curvy and smells deliciously of chocolare. He would love to taste her, but his werewolf pack has warned him not to mate with humans. Sex with human females is alright, but Rico knows if he ever gets a taste, he will only want more of Briony.

Briony

Briony is a special woman. She has the abnormal ability to sooth animals with her touch and her calming spirit. It also effects wolves and shifters. Briony has bee

Belinda McBride – Toxic –Truckee Wolves 01

This an excellent paranormal read with a plot well balanced between action and romance. [Although this is listed as the first of the Truckee Pack books they have appeared in two previous short stories. They have a cameo in Educating Evangeline from Doms of Dark Haven and Hunting Holly from Doms of Dark Haven 2 is centered on three members of the Truckee pack. Chronologically it appears that Toxic takes place between the two short stories.] Some serious w

The blurb for this book gave me such a good laugh (and a WTF moment) that I just had to read it. Call me crazy -- no seriously. It's fine, I don't mind.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for a black woman on the cover, in spite of a truly wacko summary. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this book blew my mind on many levels.

I read it in an evening and I'm almost at a loss to describe it. This was ALL. OVER. THE. PLACE.

I feel like Stefan from the SNL skit when I tell you this book has everything: werewolv

From what I gathered here on GR, this is a short story that has been sold by the author (yay!) and made into a novel(la).

This might explain why the book felt at times unpolished, at time incomplete. It mustn't be easy to move from one "size" to an other. There are things to add, to change, maybe to delete.

I can say this novelette (too short to be called a full novel) has potential. It shows us hints of interesting characters and plot. At the moment I can't say they are more than this: hints. But

This book is now out of print but due to demand, I'll be expanding it substantially for future re-release. It'll either go to Loose Id or will be self-pubbed. I'll update as soon as I know more. :)

UPDATE: Toxic has been accepted by Loose Id. It will be greatly expanded and revised to a novel length.

This novella started with a clever concept, and one that I hadn’t encountered in a shifter story before. Being a science geek, I really enjoyed the author’s tie in of theobromine poisoning from chocolate being the one thing that both drew and deterred Roco in his romancing Briony.

Unfortunately, there were only moments of that unique story contained in these pages: long passages of infodump, several characters introduced without a real defined purpose and an overall lack of character development

It's rare that I give 4 stars to a novella, especially when it's PNR. But there was so much that I enjoyed about this revised edition of Toxic, starting w/ the luscious hero (or rather, his wolf) who is so infatuated w/ the chocolatey smell of his mate that he forgets that chocolate is a major no-no for canines. Loved the MCs, loved the various secondary characters (especially Briony's mum!), and definitely loved the romance and the HOT! sexy times.

Even tho it's almost to be expected for a novel

Another wonderful tale from the talented Ms. McBride. In Toxic, there are shifters, tampered humans and a mysterious nefarious corporation. This could be a simple tale of soul mates finding each other. Instead, in classic Ms. Bride style, the reader is treated to an interesting world with interesting characters.

Ms. McBride teases us with a little strip show as she stingily tosses us tidbits of this new world she's created. The reader learns a little about Abraxas. This group is after Briony and

I really REALLY liked this book. While Briony and Rico's relationship issues were fun and steamy, it was Chase and his utter weariness at trying to heal his pack that tangled me up. Throw in the damage Abraxas did to many of his other wolves and I was a puddly pile of hurt for them.

But this was still Briony and Rico's story, so let's get back to them.

First off, poor Rico. Gorging on chocolate in his wolf form and becoming vilely ill has to be pretty darn awful. Especially when the sexy vet doesn

While this book has received mixed reviews, I really enjoyed it. It was a quick read, but it was fun and engaging. This book contained several aspects that I like, including a multicultural cast of characters and a strong female protagonist. Briony, a talented veterinarian with a gift for understanding and influencing emotions of animals, brings us into an action-packed tale when she falls for Rico, a man she does not know at the time is a werewolf. I also love the character of Dionne, Briony's ...more

Sometimes I don't know what makes me buy books that I suspect will disappoint me, I just do.

This author has entries in the Doms of Dark Haven anthologies, and those stories introduced some characters that I became interested in reading more about.
This book's H and h were just lukewarm though.
The H is a wolf shifter and the h is something psychic, I never really got what though, animals became calm around her. They have apparently lusted after each other for a while, but we never see that build-u

I really liked this story. It had some of the usual shifter story elements but more. Our hero is a wolf shifter, but his pack is more loosely defined than typical and full of damaged personalities related to past abuse at the hands of a mysterious organization. Our heroine is a vet with a mystical way with animals, who also has a mysterious past (adopted child) related to that same covert organization. Vampires are also mentioned, though no real characters. Then we add in an adoptive mother with ...more

I liked the idea of this book more than the execution. The short length kept the book from fully developing the characters and the story. It was hard to see the couple as a couple as they hadn't spent more than one night dating before they jumped into bed and were mated.

I think there could have been more done with the couple if the story's focus hadn't shifted from the couple to the entire pack and it's background. Even worse, the circumstances of the pack and Briony's family being enemies with

Toxic (Sex and Chocolate) by Belinda McBride, was a short and enjoyable novella. For me a three star read, mainly for length, lack of more info on Abraxas, more back-story and character development. There was no shortage of material in the story that could have been used to expand the books plot, and build more character development, adding to the characters differences, how they came together in the pack, and the mystery of the shadow group named Abraxas. The connection between Rico and Briony w ...more

Briony, a full-figured veterinarian, has a serious love for chocolate and the serious hots for sexy ranger Rico. Ranger Rico is wildly attracted to Briony who, to him, smells as good as chocolate. The problem is Rico is a wolf shifter and chocolate is toxic to canines. Chocolate toxicity becomes a problem that brings our vet and shifter ranger together, but as a result it sets off a whole world of problems for the two of them as well...

Left me wondering about the heroines past. Who was her father? Will we ever find out?

The main element in this story is not shifters, not telepaths, but chocolate ! A good element, isn't it ? I like the idea of a chocolate woman.
There was an original angle to this book : instead of a pack with a strong hierarchy, as it's always the case in the stories I've read about shifters, this pack has problems, due to the lack of an alpha leading them for some time, but not only. There's a bigger story behind this with the Abraxas. We know little about this organization, except that they le

I’ve read McBride’s ‘Imperative Series’ and I very much liked the first two stories in the series. I didn’t really understand the motivation of one of the main characters in the third and last story but I’m sticking with the theory that two out of three isn’t bad. So when I saw this new series coming out I was intrigued enough to read. Small disclaimer before going on - there’s a message on the book blurb with a couple of things: 1) This is a revision of a short story Sex and Chocolate: Toxic (p ...more

“Do you understand what that is?”
“A marriage proposal?”

Shock registered on his face, followed by laughter. “Well, that’s sort of closing the barn door after the horses escaped! I tied you to me permanently, and now you’re talking marriage.”

This definitely have a different feel from what I am used to read, of shifters and supernatual. This book got my attention because it was recommended to me by a friend and from the way she told me I just can't help myself to read it.

Heated passion and love lingers between them, but never have they crossed the line – until now. Rico, the wildlife ranger, finds himself ill after losing control of his wolf form and engulfing a large amount of chocolate. Only Briony can help him, but by pulling her into his world of shifters, there’s always dangerous risks.

I received a copy of the revised and re-edited version of Truckee Werewolves: Toxic from Netgalley and had forgotten what it was about other than it was a PNR, so I was quite surprised when it started and I found out our main character, Dionne, was a transgender individual. Not a problem for me, I've read a couple of books/series with transgender individuals, but not I think as a lead character. Well, that was in the prologue, and when chapter 1 starts we meet the real heroine of the story, Brio ...more

This is a good if short read featuring werewolves and should appeal to lovers of shifter tales with a sexy edge to them. Definitely a romance but there's a pretty complex storyline running through it. Fans of paranormal tales should give this book a try.
This story centres around vet Bree and her intense fascination with local wildlife flanger Rico. Now Bree is no ordinary woman looking for love no, she's an unusual character with lots going on including her uncanny knack with animals. She's and

Toxic is an interracial paranormal romance with a fast paced and entertaining story line. Briony is a young veterinarian with her own small practice, a gift for soothing animals, a love of chocolate, and a crush on the local ranger Rico. Rico is the ranger who runs the local wildlife rescue with a true understanding of animals since he himself is quite in touch with his own "wild" side. Rico also has an unhealthy attraction to chocolate that will lead him into trouble as well as a healthy attrac ...more

This is a substantially expanded and revised version of the short story Sex and Chocolate: Toxic which was previously published in 2009.

It's exactly what I expect from Loose-Id publications. Hot, Erotic, a little dirty with a touch of the taboo. A enjoyable read with great potential in a series.

Dionne with a mysterious past is left the custody of two children, an infant boy and a young girl who are running from a horrible corporation known as Abraxas who experimented on them and many more. Ke

Have you ever started reading a book, and the beginning of it was just amazing? It was written to where you didn’t want to put it down because you wanted to find out what was going on? And then as you get further into the book, you have to push yourself to keep reading? Reaching for that “thing” that pulled you into the story to start with? Well that is what happened to me in this story.

The beginning was awesome; Dionne seemed like a great character. She has that sense of mystery about her, an
