And if he hadn’t broken my heart three years ago, I might think so too.
Now we’re alone—on top of a mountain—in a broken-down car—in the freezing cold—with just the backseat and each other to keep warm.
How did this happen? My best friend’s wedding weekend was supposed to be an escape. The perfect thing to keep my mind off my problems. But one matchmaking relative and a whole lot of whiskey later, things are not going my way.
He’s giving me that devastating smile, the one I never could resist, and I’m afraid of what might happen if I give in this time.
He says he’s a changed man and wants to prove it. But everyone knows that actions speak louder than words.
Can I trust him when he says he wants a second chance?
Or should I take my heart and run—just as soon as I get this blasted car started?
A Prequel to the Anything Series - Book 1 - Anything That You Want, Book 2 - Anything I Can Do
From Me To You is a sweet and funny, closed-door one-hour read, set in the fictional southern small town of Rixburg, West Virginia. If you like a swoony hot hero who won’t give up on his girl, second chance romance, being trapped in a car on a mountain (who doesn't!) and an amazing group of friends and family, you'll love From Me To You!
Mary likes her chocolate salted and her romance sweet.
She writes sweet and funny romance with a kiss, and you won't be embarrassed to gift her books to your mom. (Well, not too embarrassed. Sometimes those kisses can get pretty steamy!)

From Me to You by Mary Carson is a sweet, closed-door, second chance romance novella that serves as a prequel to the Anything series, focusing on Lizzy and Theo, two characters who once shared something real but were torn apart when Theo abruptly broke her heart three years earlier, and who are forced to confront old wounds when they unexpectedly reunite at a friend’s wedding and end up stranded together on a cold mountainside, giving them a surprising chance to talk, forgive, and discover whether love can truly find its way back.
Reading this felt like slipping into a movie-length scene filled with laughter, heartache, and that electric uncertainty that comes with meeting someone you once trusted deeply. Lizzy’s blend of resilience and vulnerability made her instantly relatable, and her blunt, honest reactions to Theo’s earnest attempts at redemption had me smiling and slightly anxious on her behalf as they navigated those snowy hours stuck in a broken-down car.
Theo’s determination to show he has changed, his quiet regrets, and the way he speaks from a place of genuine growth made their conversations feel layered and emotionally satisfying even in a novella’s compact length. The forced proximity trope works beautifully here: what begins as awkward sparks under the stars soon warms into tender understanding and hope as they unpack their shared history with humor and sincerity. Carson’s writing is warm, charming, and infused with affectionate small-town energy that made me root for these two imperfect people to find their way back to each other.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars This was a delightful, cozy read that made me feel hopeful about second chances and the kind of love that grows not in grand gestures but in honest conversations, shared laughter, and the willingness to revisit what was once lost, and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves quick, heartfelt romances you can finish in an evening with a smile.
Super short story but SO much is packed into it. I truly loved the two main characters, and such a massive change from the beginning to the ending of the story. The epilogue shocked me but in a happy way! Theo is truly dreamy!! Such a cute and quick read!
I read this prequel to the 'Anything' series and really enjoyed it! It focused on Lizzy and Theo, who had a chance at love 3 years ago before Theo blew it (and doesn't he know it). When they both attend a friends wedding and agree to run an errand together, they don't expect to be stuck overnight in a broken down car in freezing temperatures. It's a forced proximity, lovers to enemies to lovers, sweet romance and was the perfect way to set the scene for the rest of the series.
Mary is such a brilliant Author and I really enjoy the way that she writes her sweet romances. The MCs were very relatable, and I love the clear communication and honesty between each couple. Reading each story, there is no doubt that they're each mature adults ready and willing to take that next step with each other which is very refreshing!
I've previously read the second book in the series, Anything I Can Do, and am looking forward to the third book in the series, Anything That You Need, which releases on the 16th of November 2023 🥳
Some themes to be aware of that may be triggering for some people: addiction, overdose, foster care & active duty.
Theo and Lizzy fell in love years ago. But, when Theo unexpectedly broke it off, Lizzy was devastated. Now, years later, at a friend's wedding, they get a chance to reconnect and see if they can forgive and possibly move forward together! This was such a wonderful read! I enjoyed getting to go back and see how Teddy and Lizzy fell in love and getting to know their family more! This had some sweet and funny moments and was a joy to read! I can't wait to see more from this author and in this series! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was such a cute novella! This is a quick read, only about 70 pages, but it was so adorable. I loved reading about Lizzy and Theo, and I feel like you really got to know them even though this is so short. Also, I loved the fact that it was a second chance romance. It made the book not feel too insta love. Of course, James is there too, and go pick up his book because it is just too cute! I would totally recommend this clean closed door romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
While spending the weekend in her college roommate Julie's hometown, Lizzy Cross met Julie's older brother's best friend, Theo Hayes. They hit it off and even dated long distance for a while, but Theo kept canceling their plans to get together in person. The last time they were supposed to meet up, he not only canceled, he unexpectedly broke up with her. Three years later, Julie is getting married and has asked Lizzy to be her maid of honor. She'd hoped to be able to avoid Theo during the wedding festivities, but when she arrives at the rehearsal dinner, she's dismayed to learn that he's been asked to fill in as a groomsman at the last minute. Theo, meanwhile, sees it as an opportunity; he's spent their time apart working to be worthy of Lizzy and intends to put forth his best effort to win her back before the weekend is over. Can he convince her that he's changed and won't break her heart a second time?
I very much enjoyed this fun, quick read. Lizzy and Theo's banter had me chuckling from their very first encounter. Lizzy was understandably hurt by the way Theo had ended things between them three years earlier, but his explanation of the circumstances behind the breakup made a lot of sense. I think their biggest problem was that they were just too young when they first met; they needed time to grow apart before they could grow together.
I highly recommend "From Me To You" for all sweet contemporary and romantic comedy fans and look forward to whatever the author writes next.

I love when authors write prequels, and we get to go back and read about characters we’ve come to love before and see how they came to be the wonderful people they are! Last year I got to read Mary Carson’s book, “Anything That You Want,” and I loved James’s, the MC’s sister Lizzy!
I really loved getting to go back and see how Lizzy and her husband Teddy fell in love in Mary’s newer novella, “From Me to You.” This is a short story but it feels very complete as the history of the couple is explained well! We also get a fun little situation that makes me laugh when I think about it!
If you want a fun, quick read, check out this novella and also her book I mentioned above! They are both so good and you will most definitely fall in love with the Cross family!!
*I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own!
It is Always Better the Second Time Around - Whilst Teddy was really looking forward to Lizzy’s arrival at the wedding, as he had plans to rekindle their relationship, Lizzy wasn’t happy to see him and made sure to stay far away from him. However, someone decided to play matchmaker for Teddy and Lizzy by sending them on an errand, where they were forced to spend time together, as they got stranded and it gave them a chance to resolve all their issues. Luckily, Teddy was able to convince Lizzy to give them a second chance, so they could get the happiness they missed out on before.
I really enjoyed reading this heartwarming story about personal growth, forgiveness, family and a happily ever after. If you are looking for a small town, feel-good romance to read, then I recommend you get this book.
I received a copy of this book free and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mary Carson is a new-to-me author. From Me to You is a novella length rom-com that is heavy on drinking alcohol, some mild swearing, and mild to moderate kissing. The characters start off as enemies but move to friends and more very quickly during a friends wedding reception. Personally I would have liked to see the characters filled out more as they fell a bit flat especially in the beginning. I did not find Dr. Uncle very funny, except at the end when it is revealed that he has a match-making trick and that several of the wedding party had fallen for it. So, this wasn't a bad story, but for me there are opportunities for the author to grow, perhaps with a novel length story to build stronger characters and storyline.
I really liked this short story! It was sweet, funny, and the romance was done quite well considering it was less than 100 pages.
But the best part? It was in West Virginia!
As a West Virginian myself, I try to read any WV books that I come across (but of course only if they're not spicy), so I really appreciated that element to the story. During the scenic overview scene, I kept picturing Canaan Valley, which is stunning, especially in the fall. Even though the town was fictional, I liked being able to connect it to a place I know and am familiar with, so extra stars just for that. It makes this little hillbilly's heart happy to see WV represented in books. Many thank you's to Mary Carson for including her native state in this story!
This is a sweet, humourous second chance novella about Theo and Lizzy who meet up three years after their break up, at a friend's wedding. Both are part of the bridal party and they are roped in to carry out an errand. Whilst doing so, Lizzy's car refuses to start and they land up spending a night together in the mountains on her back seat. Theo is finally given the chance to explain to Lizzy why he broke up with her and how he wants a chance to get back with her. This is a lovely heartwarming story with likeable and endearing characters told from a dual POV.
Theo met Lizzie three years ago and messed up. He wants a second chance and takes it when both are in the wedding party. They are asked to drive to the small town and buy more liquor. On the way, they stop at the overlook. Lizzie’s car won’t start and they are forced to spend the night in the car. Both talked about their past and Theo said he had changed.
They checked the car and found the battery was disconnected. It had been done on purpose so they were forced to be together and talk. It worked and 21 months later, Theo asked Lizzie to marry him.
This was a very good novella! Sometimes it feels like skmething is missing with romance novellas, but with this one we got great relationship and character develkpment, making us know what couldn't fit in the story through the dialogues! It was also nice seeing the character from the first book, this being a prequel. I'm looking forward to the next one!

What a cute read! This book is actually a prequel to The Anything Series. This story features Lizzie and Teddy (Theo) along with a cast of characters that sounds like will be present in the subsequent books.
I think Dr. Uncle may have been my favorite character! I would recommend this book to anyone who’s got 30-60 mins available and would like a seat, clean romance book.
Cute story of Theo and Lizzy getting a second chance at romance. Loving family and friends backdrop. Interesting matchmaker with his own technique. Sweet story and ending.
This was a really cute story. I know it was a Novella but it felt really rushed. I am hoping to learn more about Lizzy and Teddy in the other books in the series. Lizzy and Teddy are super cute together and I love how they found each other again and gave it a second shot!
This was a fun romance! It was a quick read but satisfying even though it was short. Characters were fun and the plot held my interest. For a novella this packed a lot in.
This cute novella made me want to read more about the folks of Rixburg, WV. Lizzy and Teddy / Theo were such an adorable match, and I enjoyed seeing them get back together.
From Me To You by Mary Carson is a sweet romcom novella. I got a copy of this one for signing up to her newsletter but you can also get it on amazon and it's the prequel to The Anything Series. This one can be read anywhere from one to two hours and it is really cute. Theo Hayes wants a second chance and Lizzy wants to stay away from him. Then they end up stuck together in a car on a mountain. Will he get his second chance? If you are looking for second chances, forced proximity, and a little bit of matchmaking you will enjoy this quick read.
