America's Soul

Rate this book
Soul has just finished his 18-month sentence for a parole violation. Still in love with his son’s mother, America, he wants nothing more than for them to become a family and move on from his past. But while Soul was in prison, America's music career started blowing up and she became entangled in a rocky relationship with a new man, Kendall. Kendall is determined to keep his woman by his side, and America finds herself caught in a tug of war between the two men. Soul turns his attention to battling the street life that landed him in jail — setting up a drug program to rid the community of its tortuous meth problem — but will Soul's efforts cross his former best friend, the murderous drug kingpin Omega?

America's Heart and Soul...

In the eighteen months that Soul has been incarcerated a lot has changed yet some things have remained the same. Like his feelings for his ex-wife America, upon Soul's release he would love nothing more than to return home to his wife and their son. But his recidivism has resulted in a divorce and America is in a relationship with her producer Kendall. Kendall is excellent at managing America's music career she's at the brink of stardom but he's having a harder time managing her heart. Soul's release only adds to Kendall's ever growing insecurities.

A piece of America's heart will always belong to Soul but her head is focused on her career because following her heart has only led to heartache. America realizes that Kendall is a good man whose business savvy is helping her achieve her goals but his confidence in the bedroom doesn't match his confidence in the boardroom. Kendall's overbearing and clingy tendencies are causing America to reevaluate their relationship but the mixing of business and personal affairs has some perilous consequences. Meanwhile Soul is dealing with the perilous consequences of his former alliance with the notorious Omega.

Author Erick Gray provides his fans with closure to the series while skillfully interweaving a street tale with romance. Although The America/Soul/Kendall storyline is a major part of the novel Mr. Gray still manages to include the inner city struggles of our youth trying to avoid the pitfalls of poverty and urban living. This inclusiveness is commendable and leads to yet another gritty yet genuine tale.

I have completed The Love & Gangsta Triology by Erick S. Gray. The first was Crave All Lose All then Love and A Gangsta and the last being America's Soul. I wish there was another. I would love to know what happens with Soul and his son. I was blown away when America got killed. The killers in this book were truly ruthless in every since of the word. They believed in torturing their prey. I really felt that America & soul would have gotten together and lived happily everafter, but it was'nt in the cards for them. I would rate this book a 10 if I could. Erick S. Gray does'nt disappoint either when you read his books.

America's Soul was not as good as the Love and a Gangster, and I didn't like the way it ended, but I enjoyed reading it.
