Unlike other slow cooker recipes this book contains a lot of precooking! I like the dump and cook recipes especially for convenience. Have marked many to try though!
I didn’t know I needed a new crockpot book until I saw this in the Vancouver Public Library Friends of the Library book sale. It is very different from other crockpot books; there is more seafood, including salmon fillets with braised leeks, very good. And not what I’m used to making in a slow cooker.
I also made rhubarb compote for breakfast (that it contained a recipe for rhubarb is probably half the reason I bought the book); and to try out its soup recipes, I made pizza soup—tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and pepperoni. Oddly, no recommendation of putting cheese on it after it’s done; perhaps that goes without saying.
All three of the recipes I tried took less time than I’m used to with a crockpot. The salmon fillet only an hour and a half.
There’ll be other recipes I’ll try soon; probably one of the several nut recipes, such as tamari almonds, and probably some more fruit dishes for breakfast, such as poached pears.
Fantastic recipes that are not too complicated. I tried out the Soupe aux pois, sun-dried tomato & artichoke dip, boeuf bourguignon, and glazed ginger meatballs. Really happy to get more use out of my slow cooker.
The recipes are worth three stars, but in my experience most slow cooker meals (with the usual sauce/stew/chili exceptions) are 20% less tasty than non slow cooked meals. So an extra star for difficulty and slow cooker convenience.
Great soups and stews and a few good pot roasts, but most of the other dishes would probably taste better prepared the conventional way. Great source for busy weeknight meals.
