This book was originally published in 1941. A wartime Christmas was on people's minds, and among the readings included are "Broadcast from the Trenches, Finland, 1939" by William L. White and several other selections from wartime memoirs. Here also are Dickens, Andersen, and familiar carol lyrics, but that's not all. Christmas newspaper columns from Heywood Broun, selections from novels by George Eliot, Selma Lagerlof, and many others, and a story no home should be without, The Peterkins' Christmas Tree by Lucretia P. Hale. There are even recipes, though I haven't tried to cook any of them. A used copy will run you under $4.00 and I advise the purchase if you are a person who likes to read seasonal stories at Christmastime.
