Carly comes zooming into Cameron, Utah speeding a little and meets the sheriff Devlin McAllister telling her to be careful and then he learns she's a reporter. Devlin is fed up of reporters, they've been some trouble in town(past two books in the series) and he likes the town the way it is, quiet, intimate and peaceful, he does not want it to become a tourist hot-spot. But Carly tells him she's here to stay for a while and will do her piece whether he likes it or not.
Carly has come to town under false pretenses, she does not want to write an article, she has come to find out the truth about her brother's murder twenty years ago on Dev's property. She suspects that Dev's father was responsible and begins her search but she keeps running into Dev and they end up kissing. Both of them admit they don't want anything more. Dev it is obvious doesn't want to get involved seriously since he's been burnt and Carly is going to leave.
Carly soon realizes that in her quest she may hurt Dev and his family, earlier they were people she didn't know but now things have changed. The threats against her have also escalated with Dev always coming to her rescue.
Dev despite being a part owner of the ranch never wanted to run it, he joined the army and then came back. The book was a decent read, Carly was determined to get to the truth and Dev had doubts about her motives and stirring things up for the town.
Carly Fitzpatrick has returned to Cameron for one purpose – to solve a 20-year-old murder mystery. Under the guise of her job as a reporter, she’s out to discover how deeply the McAllisters are involved. Sheriff Devlin McAllister has a basic distrust of reporters to begin with. Since he also has an aversion to any type of romantic relationship, he’s determined to keep Carly at arm’s length.
This is an intriguing romantic suspense that is sure to grab your interest from the start. The mystery surrounding the 20-year-old murder mixed in with the intense interactions between Carly and Devlin make this a captivating read. You’re not only kept wondering whodunit but also whether Carly and Devlin will recognize the real feelings they are developing for each other before it’s too late.
There’s plenty in this tale to keep you completely enthralled. It’s filled with lots of drama, touches of suspense, moments of danger, a bit of angst, some heartache, and just the right amount of steamy passion. As the relationship between Carly and Devlin grows so does the intrigue surrounding the murder mystery, keeping you glued to the pages until the climatic ending for both. It’s a story well worth reading and a perfect addition to this amazing series.
Very strong storyline! I loved the characters, the area and the inhabitants of Cameron. The H's family was amazing. The chemistry between the main characters was instant but their ability to overcome baggage slowed down their growing emotions. The need to care for the h were accelerated in the H by the multiple attempts to kill her by an evil man. Interesting that she was as dedicated to her family as he was to his just for different reasons.
The mystery was well done and was resolved beautifully. The H's emotional war within himself was rapidly resolved when he thought the h was leaving. Love is a beautiful thing?
Editing: very good, occasional use of wrong word (his for her, etc) Writing: strong and flows beautifully
What a terrific book! It was long but I couldn’t put it down! A Sheriff,a journalist and a murder all in one book. The journalist comes to town to look into her brother’s murder that happened years ago,but says she’s a magazine journalist looking at the town for tourism. She keeps having things happen to her,a car accident,a rock slide among others. The Sheriff gets involved ( in more ways than not) and things start happening. This is a good book with lots of excitement and drama with a little romance sprinkled in.So try it,you’ll like it!
This was just ok to me. Too much back and forth without any real reasoning, the mystery wasn’t that hard to figure out but somehow took both of them forever and then boom they’re in love. I stopped at one point to check the publish date, goodreads claims 2016 but I feel like this has to be an older book because nobody seems to have a phone. They’re always going back to somewhere to call or using the police radio and most confusing was requesting a rental car with a phone...what?! Not only have I never heard of that but what year is it really? Honestly it barely kept my attention until the last few chapters.
What can I say, I liked the story but it did not have to be embellished with graphic sex scenes. Carly Fitzpatrick comes to Cameron, Utah seeking to learn who murdered he brother when she lived there as a little girl. She clashes at first with Sheriff Devlin McAllister but that they are attracted to each other goes without saying. It was a fairly well written story that would have been even better if written clean and wholesome. It must take a bit more skill to write a story without graphic sex scenes or some authors just want to be all things to all people.
It what you get with this story. Carly is back in Cameron after years but no one knows who she is. She wants to prove who really killed her brother years before. She has a different last name but she needs to know. Devlin see her the first time she speeds into town. But he's a MacCallister and she believes her father killed her brother. But do things go wonky after that.
I loved this book - way better than the others in this series so far. Carly and Dev are complex characters, both unwilling to have a serious relationship despite their striking chemistry. They fight it and each other all the way, but as the mystery starts unravelling and Carly’s life is threatened, Dev steps up to the plate like a true hero. She is feisty and more than a match for this hot sheriff. Now all i want is for the rest of the series to be as good.
Neither of them want to be in a relationship. Past pains and haunts make it impossible, no matter the attraction. However they may be pushed into more than they planned if they aren't careful. Wonderful game of cat and mouse , intrigue and heat as they get to know each other and learn the truth. Great story with characters whose passion and fear keep you riveted to the story.
This has angst, danger, lots of foreplay til almost the end, romance, humor and lots of mystery. She comes to town to solve who killed her brother 20yrs ago, thinking for sure it was his father who is now deceased. He's now the sheriff and is sure she's lying about why she's in town. Lust and attraction bloom between them. Highly recommend.
A great read and one that had I not been so tired I would have read straight through to the end. A journalist and a sheriff hat do they have in common? A twenty year old murder. Devlin’s family property is where it happened and Carly thought his dad was guilty of murder. You will need to read it to find out what happens.
If the spices were just a little hotter, I would be giving this a 5 star rating. Great character development, interesting mystery aspect, lots of sexual tension and suspense, a smooth writing style that moves everything along without hiccups, and clean editing all add to a very enjoyable romantic story.
I love a story with enough action spread out throughout the book to keep you reading.the things that happen to Carly make you try to figure out who is doing them. Dev wants to protect her but spends a lot of time trying to convince himself it isn't because he loves her.
Nothing special about the story or characters. In fact for a sheriff and an investigative reporter they were sure slow on The Who killed her brother. In fact it was only 2 people who could have and one was dead. Yup. Long time figuring it out. Immediate sparks flew between the two but not a whole lot of getting to know each other. And then they are In love and getting married. Eyeroll.
This is a well crafted story with characters that are very likable. The story is a combination of romance and mystery. Margaret Watson provides a romance with a murder mystery that provides a HEA ending. I highly recommend this book.
Great story of interest for many, a murder if twenty years not forgotten by loved ones and wrong allegations for a home town sheriff to go thru many trials of a news worthy young lady, good story,
This is good! An instant attraction and a very good suspense story, kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. I loved the small town closeness, makes you dream.
Good story! I love that she's got ulterior motives and somehow he knows there's something going on even though it's not clear what. The plot takes its time, but these two get rather wrapped up in one another.
This was an interesting novel. The characters were well developed and had chemistry. Moreover, the plot was creative and held my interest. The author used vivid descriptions which helped to create an upbeat tone. I enjoyed reading the narrative.
Jesse was an FBI agent following up a tip from a former employee of Shea MacAllister claiming she was smuggling criminals into the US. Jesse is convinced something illegal is happening. He is shocked with what he finds.
THE STORY LINE WAS REPETATIVE AND MADE UP MOSTLY OF THE TENSION BETWEEN DEN & CARLY, WITH A SMATTERING OF A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD MURDER MYSTERY. I WONDERED WHY THE RESTURANT “HEAVEN ON SEVENTH” WAS MENTIONED SO MANY TIMES , IT IS CATCHY & CUTE BUT COME ON NOW. ;O
I had a hard time getting into this one, but after it got rolling, it was an interesting read with some mystery, sexy times, conflict and relationship resolutions, and a HEA. Standalone but part of a series.
