Free Thinking: On Happiness, Emotional Intelligence, Relationships, Power and Spirit

Rate this book
This collection of bite-sized personal writings offers poignant thoughts on how to live a more emotionally and spiritually fulfilling life. Broad picture issues are addressed, including what happiness is, how to achieve it gracefully and how to avoid burnout. Advice is also offered on more tangible topics such as how to worry less and praise more, how to age, why and how to meditate, when and whether to marry, and why doubt can be useful. A case is made for honesty, tolerance, and peace in a world where those vital qualities can sometimes seem in short supply. These succinct essays amount to a series of brief, intense conversations with an author who thinks deeply, writes beautifully, and, even when she is confessing her human frailty, never fails to uplift and inspire.

This book is divided into sections and explores the concepts of happiness, emotional intelligence, relationships, power and spirit. Each of these sections is further divided up into smaller chapters of 2-3 pages each.
I liked these thought provoking writings of Stephanie Dowrick , not only did I find comfort in her words but I found many passages that really resonated with me in light of the current global issues. I highlighted many passages that captured my own thoughts, although far better expressed than if I were to do it myself.
This book, among many others I possess in this particular genre, had sat on my bookshelf for many years before I was called to read it.,I believe we reach for a book when we are ready to receive its wisdoms. Free Thinking is the perfect book for 2022. I am witnessing compassion, tolerance and acceptance being lost to fear and other negative emotions and it breaks my heart. This is a book that speaks to humanity.

An enjoyable thought-provoking commentary by Stephanie Dowrick on a number of life topics which had me nodding along in agreement during my daily commute. I will now follow her career with anticipation. Highly recommend (for women ages 21+)
