The Astro the Alien series is a Beginning to Read Book published by Norwood Press. I like this series as it is simple to read and filled with a lot of activities and suggestions at the end to help children develop both reading recognition skills and comprehension skills. The is also a work list of both high frequency words and content words that can be shared before reading the book. In this book Astro visits his friends and sees Eva holding her stuffed Polar Bear. He wants to see a real polar bear, so off they go in Astro's space pod. His pod changes into both a boat and a sled in this story so they see animals that live on the ice, in the water and on land. It was funny to see Ben and Eva on skis pulling Astro sitting on top of his pod with runners on it. They see a walrus, beluga whales as well as orcas. They finally find a polar bear. The reader will learn some simple things about each story as they read the book. The illustrations were well done. They are bright, colourful and large so you can see the animals clearly. A good book for a family library and primary classroom. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

This is a very enjoyable Astro the Alien title. The illustrations are great. Our boys (2 and 4.5) enjoyed seeing the polar bear and the Arctic hare the most. This is a great series for early readers and helps to build vocabulary and confidence.

The book is great for beginner readers. It has an Alien name Astro and as the kids read they are learning about Polar Animals. It is great because it has reading reinforcement in the back. I love the Dolch words are in the book which makes it easier to read for elementary children. I like the simple information it gives on Polar Animals. It is part of a series.

This book is a part of a series. This would be a perfect book for lower-level elementary grades. Astro the alien takes the kids to the arctic and they see many different animals before they find the polar bear. This book would be great to have during a class reading where the teacher can pause and talk about the different characteristics of the arctic and different arctic animals

I liked this book better than any other in the series I have read so far. We see a lot more of Astro asking what animals are and why they are white etc. Astro really plays a part in this story. One complaint (I’m sorry I can't help it). Astro didn’t know what a Polar Bear was to begin with, so how does he know he needs to change his skip into a boat to see things in/on the water?
