For most teenagers, high school is a life-changing experience. New friendships are made, relationships are explored, & a glorious excitement fills the air. It seems like high school is heaven on Earth... but that’s not true for everybody. Many teenagers dread high school for various reasons; perhaps they’re being bullied, or the material isn’t challenging enough, or the long school days leave time for little else in their lives.

But there is a solution.

In High School Success , author Marrae Kimball tells you how. Marrae has firsthand experience with this issue. Only eighteen years old, but wise beyond her years, she recounts her high-school experience. Upon entering high school, she began to suffer from painful migraine headaches. Dealing with the pain, nausea and related ailments meant she couldn’t focus on her schoolwork. Despite her intelligence and strong work ethic, there was something that was limiting her potential.

She knew she had to find another way, but her options seemed limited. And because she and her mother were unfamiliar with it, homeschooling seemed like an unattainable fantasy. But after careful research, they found that it was indeed a viable way forward. Marrae quickly adapted to her customized homeschooling curriculum – not only by mastering her coursework but also by granting herself precious free time to work at a law firm.

Her life-changing experience inspired her to write this book. In it, she not only recounts her personal struggle; she also advises teenagers in similar situations about the better options available. Whether discussing the various state laws regarding education options, or the differences between day schools, home schools and schools away from home, it’s all presented here. What’s more – she also reveals how to obtain financial support for your eventual choice, as well as helpful strategies, tips, and testimonies from herself and others just like her.

Education is a vital part of life. These days, the avenues to higher learning are plentiful. And with this helpful and inspiring guide, you’ll find out exactly which educational path is the best one for you. Because every journey begins with a single step… and this book will have you walking towards a life that you’ve always deserved.

‘Learn to communicate and ask questions.’

Maine author Marrae Kimball is an honor student, works in law, and has received national attention for her previous publications. She has received acknowledgment from then President Barack Obama, and U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe, and in 2013 she was nominated for the 'Girls Rock! Award' presented by Hardy Girls Healthy Women for making her state a better place to live and grow. She has published four books to date - Guaranteed Success for Grade School 50 Easy Things You Can Do Today!, The Secret Combination to Middle School; Real Advice from Real Kids, Ideas for Success, and Much More!, Guaranteed Success for Kindergarten 50 Easy Things You Can Do Today!, and now HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS. Marrae interviewed teachers, parents, grandparents, Veterans, and high achieving entrepreneurs to discover what they thought were the most important tips and lessons children should know and she compiled them to help her peers. Her goal is to help students be as successful as they can.

Marrae sets the tone of her student-oriented book with a thoughtful Introduction – ‘Hi! My name is Marrae, and I’m eighteen years old. Until a few years ago, I attended a public school. I was planning to attend it for all four years of high school. I was perfectly happy with this, and so were my parents. However, things changed. When I was in junior high, I started experiencing some medical issues that eventually made me question educational alternatives. I’ll explain later, but basically, I decided to find another way to get my education. My parents and I were hesitant at the prospect of me transitioning away from full-time public school, and for good reason. It was what we knew, and it was serving us well. After some research, I was able to customize my high school education in a way that has worked amazingly well for me. I'm so much happier now, even more than I was before, and am making good progress academically too. My medical issues almost completely ceased. I've come to realize that it is possible and advantageous, to take charge of your own education. I want to share what I've learned with others. Do you know that there are over a dozen different options for high school for U.S. students? Would you like to know what they are, and if they'd work for you? Have you considered making a change, but don't know where to start? Are you serious about making a change, but want to make sure that you’d be successful? If so, this book is for you!‘

This book is written for students but is a helpful guide to parents and teachers as well. She discusses the options to high school education (day schools, home schools, school away form home), then compares the advantages and disadvantages of each format, and concludes with how to make each choice work. She discusses financial support for the choices students make, and calls upon students to offer testimonies about their experiences, habits, and strategies of successful students. Her closing remarks add credibility to her well presented book – ‘So much of your success and enjoyment in life will come from the effort that you put forth to take charge and be an active participant in your education. Regardless of what type of high school option you choose, you will always encounter learning situations that are not ideal. As the student in the story learned (and later applied with much success), it pays to give it your all. As a teacher of mine once said, “When you work, work hard and when you play, play hard!”

Sage words from a young and educationally committed fellow student.

I think that everyone faced the questions "is there a destiny?" or "how to succeed?". The author of this book Marrae Kimball decided to share her life experience and thoughts about these two timeless problems. She came up with an amazing way to the problem using education as the foundation of a person, which is the beginning of everyone's life.
In life we overcome various difficulties and at the right time we have to make a choice, just as the mother of the main character decided to change her mind and agreed to let her study at home. When she was a student and was uncomfortable being in school, because of problems with health.
Marrae Kimball has done a great study in the field of US education and wants to share with us the results.
I’ve read this book with interest, and the main thought that I remember, said by the author is "your destiny is in your hands". A phrase that makes me think about my life and reconsider it. The book impressed me and I recommend you to read it.

High School Success: How to Create Your Own Path, Beat Anxiety and Depression, Master Your Goals and Dreams by Marrae Kimball is a definitive overview of the various alternatives to attending traditional schooling offered today. As a high school freshman, Kimball suffered from debilitating migraines and stomach issues, forcing her to examine her path at school. She wanted to try homeschooling, but her parents were reluctant. With a lot of research, she and her parents came up with a plan, and this book details that, but also looks at other options. This book has to be one of the most concise, yet expansive on the subject of alternatives to traditional schooling methods. There are plenty of options out there for kids who want to learn through a slightly different route. Kimball provides not only her own story as inspiration, but gives a solid overview of the educational system from its inception. Highly recommend for an informative and substantive read.

A fresh new look at the possibilities in high school

Education is always a topic that is in the forefront of parents, teachers , and politicians. High school success is a book on just how many options are available to the high school student now. Gone are the days of simple 4 year diploma everyone takes the same classes and then off to the real world. Attending class in a school setting is always an option but there are many other options available to the students in the digital age. The author is young and has had this experience and now is sharing with us that we have options available and we should explore those options to see what best works for us. I found the book to be very uplifting and a good source of information on options available to successfully complete high school. I reccomed this to all students as well as parents who want to offer every option they can to the student they are raising.
