It's the holidays and Sam Fox has gone to the high country to stay with his grandparents. While trying to stop cattle rustlers from stealing a stud bull, an injured Sam is isolated in the mountains during a horrific bushfire. To survive, he must rely on his courage; ingenuity, and the help of Chainsaw--a mad old rodeo bull!
One of twelve children, Justin grew up on a farm in Otaki, New Zealand. He wrote his first book, a ten page cartoon about his pet turtle, Bubble, when he was nine years old. His next cartoon was about Moriarty, his guinea pig, and filled a complete exercise book. When he was eleven, Justin began writing his first novel, but conked out after 35 pages.
Justin D’Ath is the author of over 30 books for children and young adults, including the hugely popular Extreme Adventures series. Other books include Astrid Spark, Fixologist, The Skyflower, Robbie and the Dolphins, Infamous, and Why did the Chykkan cross the Galaxy?
I just finished the book Bushfire Rescue by Justin D'Ath. It is an adventure book. The mail characters are Sam and the bull. Sam gets treated with respect. Sam is visiting his grandparents when he goes to rescue his grandpa's bull. When he's rescuing the bull, he runs into a bushfire. He rides the bull out of the fire and is saved. I liked how the book runs into a lot of obstacles, and Sam jumps through them all like it is nothing. I think Justin could have put in more excitement and can't put the book down excitement. I give the book a five star rating because it is an exciting and thrilling adventure. I think 5th graders should read the book because it is thrilling and exciting.

Do you like action and adventure? Then you would love the novel Bushfire Rescue. Bushfire Rescue written by Justin D’ath, who has made a whole series of books including Bushfire Rescue called Extreme Adventures, which has been ongoing since 2005 and has 12 books in the series. This book is about a boy staying at his grandparents house for the summer when a couple of thieves steal his grandpas bull and he has to get him back but gets trapped in a deadly bushfire.
Sam Fox is staying over at his grandparents house learning to ride a horse when Susie the horse gets spooked by bees and has ran off and Sam cant stop her. When Susie eventually calms down, Sam finds himself face to face with the Jindabyne Rustlers who are notorious for stealing cattle for money and have stolen Sam's grandpas old rodeo bull Chainsaw, who has a hot temper. When Sam finds out they've stolen his bull, he and Susie go on a wild chase to get Chainsaw back, but they get caught up in a massive bushfire which they will burn in if they don't get out of there fast! Can they get Chainsaw back? Can they even escape the bushfire? You'll have to read the book to find out.
I really like Bushfire Rescue because there is never any shortage of action and adventure and also has a great storyline. On every page there is something new and exciting to keep you on the edge of your seat. D’ath really keeps the reader interested by adding an interesting and exciting twist one after the other. This also keeps the reader entertained and also makes the book a real page turner. Sam is also a relatable character that readers will connect with, and D’ath also adds a bit of humour so the book lightens the mood and doesn't keep it so serious.
Overall the book is written very well, the book leaves the reader with lots of emotions for example excitement and anticipation when Sam is facing a rockslide or when Sam is trapped in car surrounded by fire and losing oxygen. The reader also feels anxious and frightened when Sam breaks his foot and has to ride the most dangerous bulls in the world or when Sam is about to be engulfed in flames because Chainsaw won’t run away from the fire. The way Sam deals with the dangerous situations he's in is calm, clever and intelligent and can also be educational if ever stuck in these situations.
I thought the novel was very good because it was action packed, filled the audience with emotions, full of adventure and is even educational to children and teens and teaches them how to be safe through bushfires, rockslides and other hazardous events. I would recommend Bushfire Rescue for 10-14 year old boys who like action, animals and adventure. I would also rate this book 4 out of 5 stars as it keeps you thrilled and engaged through every page of the book. I would definitely recommend buying this book and the others in the series if your are a young teenage boy.
This series of books is wildly entertaining and the perfect fit for young men everywhere! Every boy I know wants to be just like Sam Fox. 🦊
If you're able to suspend your disbelief, and just go along for the ride, there's no way you could score this read below 4 stars. It's a solid book from start to finish; and, the fast pace never lets up!
From the frying pan into the fire, there's no escape from these flames. It's one problem after another, and Sam Fox (just like MacGyver before him) utilizes his surroundings to get himself out of trouble.
Ingenious, brave, with a good heart too, Sam Fox has remembered and retained all lessons learned from his big brother Nathan to be quick on his feet and survive.
Despite injuries, and clothes left in tatters, "Bushfire Rescue" can be summed up within a cliche: "All's well that ends well."
This story takes place in one day as Sam Fox runs into trouble when he loses control of his horse. Sam sees men taking his grandfathers' prize bull. Without thinking he tries to find the truck holding the bull by taking a shortcut. The path is harrowing as he leads Susie, his horse over boulders and up steep climbs to cut off the escaping truck. Sam finds a lot more trouble when he does encounter the men and their truck. Surprises are around every turn as Sam tries to do the right thing and stop the thieves. But the thieves want to get rid of Sam too. It's reads like an adventure in the old west with cattle rustlers, horses and men acting like cowboys. Can Sam stop the thieves, save the bull and get back to the ranch safely?
The advice in the front of the book says that this series can be read in any order, so I will and this is the first one I have read. Sam Fox is the main character here, he is the older brother of the twins in the Mission Fox series, and appears in a cameo role, so to speak in Girl Warrior, so for D'Ath he seems to like having tales in the same universe. Anyway this is so action packed it is laugh out loud ridiculous. It is not terrible, but really f all of this happened to you you would never leave your house again. Anyway action, action, and then more action in a diverting read.
I read this with my son. It's a fun adventure. The kid survives some pretty unbelievable things lol but the suspense keeps my kid reading and the imagination going. I like the author's writing style. And I like that the main character is a good example for my son.
Reading this series along with my 8 year old. He loves them! Highly recommend for kiddos who are animal lovers/adventure seekers. My son is also obsessed with Australia, so the setting of these books is very fun!
Sam Fox is at the farm when two guys stealing his father's prize cow. He gets in a bushfire what will he do to get out and survive capture the guys and be safe. Can he do it?
Outstanding fast paced non stop action with cliff hangers on each chapter end that leaves even the recluntant reader eager to keep reading to see what comes next.
the book was great because there was an action-packed part. there was a truck so sam fox ran to get in it but there was a bull in the back of the truck in a trailer

Bushfire Rescue is another fun and exciting book in the Extreme Adventures series by Justin D'Ath. Once again, Sam Fox finds himself in a deadly situation that will take both brains and luck to get out of alive. This time, Sam is injured and caught in the middle of a bushfire, or what we in America call a forest fire. He is on his own this time and he is in real trouble.
I love a book that is just packed with tension, action and adventure. So far, both of the Extreme Adventures books I have read deliver these things, and deliver them with a bang. Right from the first page, Sam, who isn't very good at riding a horse, finds himself hanging on for dear life. The action continues with a wild ride over Copperhead Spur, a battle with the rustlers, and then the trouble with the bushfire.
If you like a lot of action combined with a great story, then Bushfire Rescue is the book for you. Not only is Sam Fox a very personable character that Young Readers will instantly bond with, they will love all of the hairy circumstances that Sam finds himself in. With all the trouble that Sam finds himself in, his middle name should be "Danger."
Once again, Justin D'Ath has created a wonderful tale that will keep Young Reader gobbling up pages as they devour the book. The books are a fairly easy read as they are intended for a young audience, but even if you are older, you will highly enjoy these short stories. Heck, I've been an adult for a couple of decades and even I love these books.
Overall, Bushfire Rescue is another excellent book in the Extreme Adventures series. I cannot wait to see what kind of nasty situation Sam finds himself in next time. I guess I will just have to read Shark Bait and find out. Gee, I sure hope Sam doesn't get chomped on by a great white shark. That would really bite.
The second of Justin D'ath's Extreme Adventure books, Bushfire rescue is a marvelous story. One that has captured the imagination of teenagers everywhere. Bushfire rescue is about a young Australian boy named Sam Fox who is an eager, adventure seeking person that seemes to always find himself winding up in trouble. In this book he is visiting his grandparents when through unfortunate circumstances he winds up trying to prevent his Grandpa's prize bull from being stolen by a group that is stealing lots of the local cattle. As the chase goes on he is faced with a massive oncoming bushfire which could mean the end for Sam.
