The Christ-Centered Woman: Finding Balance in a World of Extremes

"Women respond to many callings - those of family and home, work and colleagues, and ministry and discipleship. Kimberly Dunnam Reisman, a working mother of three, explores how to respond from a calm center rather than from frustration and exhaustion.
She suggests that we work from a Christ-centeredness that asks ""How do I make choices that reflect my relationship with Christ?"" rather than, ""How can I juggle all I have to do today?""
By unmasking dangerous stereotypes and common traps, Dunnam Reisman offers women ways to identify their true calling as disciples - rather than today's popular image of ""Desperate Housewives"" - and explains how to place Christ at the center of their lives."

I studied this with a group of women at church. Generally speaking we enjoyed the study and it was worthwhile. The first half of the study in particular seemed to be geared towards women with young children who might struggle with whether to work outside the home, or how much to do so. My friends and I have kids that are a little older so we didn't really resonate as much as might have 10-15 years ago. I personally found the later chapters in the book to be more helpful. It's a good study for a group of women. :-)

Worthwhile read. Helped me look at what I overemphasize ans what I compartmentalize. Also helped me see how important my relationship and understanding of self is as well as my relationship with God. Reading this empowered me to feel my desires and what I find enjoyment in should be looked at as gifts unique to me. This is not a new concept but the author challenges readers to resist what society and the church expect of you and define your own relationships instead of playing roles.

1st half of study fabulous! Middle of study was fine. Nice video that accompanies it. Excellent focus on giving yourself grace to make good enough choices for self when world demands perfection at times. Excellent perspective on following your calling/path from God rather than following worldly expectations as priority. Methodist focused - author is a female preacher.
