About the author
Francesca Simon
390 books212 followersFrancesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.
She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.
Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.

It was a very interesting book. It had a happy ending for all characters, and I lost a sense of time in this book.

It’s a great book for kids that are just starting but it’s also really funny and the words stand out so you can read it clearly and the illustrations are really good

Francesca Simon's most popular fictional character, Horrid Henry, becomes very unpopular with his parents after the birth of his younger brother, Peter. Henry is no angel as a baby, but annoyingly Peter is. Henry tries his best to get rid of his perfect baby brother as well as get his parents to see what a troublemaker he is. Despite his failed attempts,he effortlessly becomes his baby brother's hero.
This book is great for early readers in Reception and Year 1. Filled with colourful illustrations and short sentences, it allows readers to pause often and observe images at the same time to aid with reading. The basic sentence structure and introduction of new vocabulary has positive impact on the language of young readers. It could also be very a familiar situation and therefore entertaining for readers, as it demonstrates a realistic relationship between two siblings.
