I have fallen in love with this silly series and would love for it to continue someday! What starts as a silly philosophical exercise, complete with personified goddess babe, turns into a fun romp of a continuing thought exercise. I would love for more people to discover this manga.

It seems that there is no English/Japanese-language edition of the fourth novel - perhaps it doesn't exist and was simply canned without a tankobon release. If that's the case, what a shame. I felt that the mangaka really hit the heart of the story in progressing chapters: the melancholia and the pain of being kinda-sorta-immortal, of forgetting and having to rebuild. In that sense, the last volume naturally brought the speculative story to its dramatic conclusion the best it could. I scoffed in the first volume when the mangaka said Emanon was one of his favorite sci-fi protagonists ever; by the end of this journey, I added her to my favorite characters list, too. The nonchalance hiding the deep melancholy. The strangeness of inheriting the world's memory that feels strangely comforting. The casual distance, but the equally strong yearning for connection. Being human, but not being one.

That being said, I wonder if the things brought into the first two volumes were simply... too much? Considering this volume not only brought the supernatural humans back with extremely little preamble, but you also got the sense they were only here because otherwise things would look like loose ends. Anyway, I really liked this. Shame it got canned.

And it doesn't need to be said, but the art is so beautiful.

shockingly I read it in English. I dont know why she was in a school girls uniform on the front, that doesn't really matter to the story.

ngl these are so short its hard to fit in all the plot theyre trying to here. its pretty okay, the mafia kid was too much for me, I loved her friend hikari and we are almost to the 20th century hooray. ill read the next one when its translated or comes out or something but for now im content to forget about this series.

its okay. it has nothing to say, but it was a cool idea. thank u for nothing I guess. thanks girl, give us nothing.

but the family was cool and her being a sassy kid is cute. its weird when yall sexualize children I really didnt need to see a naked teenager thanks.

I wasn't aware of the publication history of this series (or the prose short stories that Tsuruta is adapting) so I was totally caught off guard by the "To be continued" at the end of this. :( Then the Afterword came in and kicked me while I was down when I found out that the series was dropped from the magazine it was being serialized in, so we're left hanging. :'(

I read the English edition, which isn't listed, borrowed at my local library as an ebook.
This is such an incoherent story its more like a poem. As usual the art is pretty, the setting is also interesting even though its more an idea than a story. Honestly I'd call this art, good or bad, depends on your taste.

dommage.

What a strange and spastic storyline. I dont hate it and it wasn't the most amazing read. However I’ll probably read more if more come out. Reading these is like eating something that taste bad but is supposedly good for you 😆

•Main idea is cool, storyline/plot is basic, we see a mini-story in every vlumen about a special girl who remember everything since Earth was created.

I don't mind basic/simple stories, usually we get that on "Slice-of-life" genre (We know about the protagonist, little by little they show their routine/lifes), but the developpment of the story here it dosn't work/exist. The plot fails in the execution.

I thought I would get some sweet stories about Emanon knowing new people in differents time-periods (maybe when she was in Edo period, Samurais, World War I and the contrast with 21st century). There's so much more that you try with an semi-imortal character. In this case was almost everything in modernity, OK, I don't mind it, I already see soo many animes setting in modern/school/university days and I like them.

My issue here is, what I get? For some weird/unnecessary reason, Emanon is naked in every volume, a lot. Why? I don't like when I have to skip 50% when I'm reading (There's no +18 scenes just in case that you ask). If you delete all that pages, probably this series can be one long volume or two.

•Drawing is pretty too, it makes me think on 70/80's style of manga/anime.

•Do recommend it? No, I do NOT reccomend.

Actual ranking: Vol.1/2/3/4: ⭐ At first, I put 3 start to the first volume, but now that I'm currency reading another manga and I thought about it, and really it doesn't compare. Too much sexualize.

#Slice-of-life with a sci-fi touch.
#Trigger Warning: Nudity.

Maybe it was the year and a half in between this read and the last three entries, but I think this is the first time I've realized that each plot that happens in different segments in these books are happening out of sequence. I'm starting to connect the dots on different storylines. I remember going from book 2 to 3 felt a bit odd because 2 ended in a slight cliffhanger and then 3 not picking up right after. In this one, there are references to other plots from other stories and it's becoming a little more clear on what is happening. Sure, it's still confusing and now I want to give all of these another read. But I don't think it's supposed to feel clear after one read-through. The huge downside to this is the time between waiting for more volumes in the English translation. This one has a big cliffhanger in one of the stories and I really hope there's another volume. The afterword doesn't make this seem hopeful, but I'm still crossing my fingers.

Just like all the other stories, the art is amazing here. It actually got to the point where I got lost in it and then realized I wasn't paying close attention to the story. Which gives me more pressure to read these all over again. I'd really like to see an omnibus edition of these, which typically come in larger size; the art begs to be in a larger format, and with color. I truly wish more than a quarter of the art would be in color and not just black and white. I've given up trying to make sense of why Dark Horse won't use more color.

It's no use in trying to explain the story beats in this one - the synopsis does a good job, but once you're deep into the stories, there is this complexity to them. There are a lot of tangential rants that go hard on the sci-fi which may be a deterrent to some readers. I don't mind it, but I do wish my brain could make sense of it a bit more. I love the segments that are easier to follow along. There's this really bittersweet part where Emanon finds herself speaking to an old friend. It brought up an interest plot device that I don't remember seeing in past entries. It's moments like those that make me more curious on what can happen in the world of Emanon. Please make more.

Emanon has a fwe companions along the journey of her long life. Strange powers that don't really have a great impact on the world around them. They seem to just be witnessing the passage of time that contains life.

Another victim of publisher heck

Before anything else I would like to point out there are not only depictions of some nudity but also sickness, death, potential blackmail, suggested perversion and time travel of all things so if you are sensitive to these kind of things it should be okay if you pass this series up. Besides, even though it does not appear to be over this basically the end with several problems putting the series into publishing limbo for the foreseeable future so none of us may get to see how things work out (unless of course we read the stories the manga is based upon.)

As before I really enjoy the artwork to this series and Emanon is a uniquely interesting character basically shedding her old form to transfer all of her memories since the dawn of time to the first daughter born making her immortal and yet mortal at the same time. I suppose it is possible that she could die before her next incarnation is born if she got into an accident but thankfully such subjects are not really discussed from what I remember. Speaking of strange subjects we meet other characters in this volume who differ from humanity like mutants from X-men with the introduction of a boy that can take in information about people and heals extraordinarily fast then another who is a time traveler. Sadly like I mentioned before this is the end of the manga adaptation for the time being and although we are not prone to all the details the fact is for now things are done so if you don't want an incomplete series then look away. :)

things just never go my way do they? favourite series of all time gets put on pause indefinitely when it is nowhere near complete. i hope with all my being that another publishing company sees the beauty of this series the same way i do and allows for more of her story to be told. these facts however don’t take away the greatness of this book itself, this volume is probably the best of all i’ve read, (so far i hope) as the relationship between ema and hikari is my favourite in the series. so many interesting topics were brought up like how does an emanon shell live life after the transfer of memory, what other beings can exist with powers similar to ema, how does she feel being under a proper family during this reincarnation. i love this book, i love this series, i love emanon i hope she returns because i can’t write for shit so i can’t make it up.
