This book was gifted to me long ago by my very first and in-depth friend in poetry, Silverpoet. Throughout the years I have read a poem here, a poem there, but it was not until this last month that I started to read a poem per day from this book. One of the most beautiful things about this particular book is the landscape photography of Gary Hart. As the book begins the poems tell of sunrise and the waking of the morning and the photography fully reflects this in divine wilderness portraits. The poems then move on throughout the exploration of the day to finally the time before dusk and then the moonlight and stars with many famous poems and my favorites (Emily Dickinson and now a newfound interest of ee cummings...which I will explore more).

Thank you, Silverpoet, for being patient with my inpatient mind and for all of the years spent in so many beautiful thoughts.

I had just received another photo book with serenity-type quotations and, while beautiful, it just didn't lift my spirits as it intended to. I saw this at a thrift shop and was captivated in an instant. Beautiful photos, yes, and many from places I recognize (Yosemite, Grand Canyon, California), but it was also the pairing of the poetry: Longfellow, Whitman, and some new female poets I didn't know, which I appreciated. It produced the desired effect: meditative thought, contentment, and grateful awe. Highly recommended. :-)
