The Hunt for Komodo Cracker
A Montreal pharmaceutical company has been infiltrated by a mysterious hacker named Komodo. Rather than steal information, Komodo leaves encrypted files for Thomas Faraday, a network security professional hired to safeguard the company’s data.
At the same time, somewhere deep in the Zagros Mountains, a secret Christian league excavates an ancient Persian stela that contains a coded message. When the league learns that Thomas holds the secret to interpreting the stela, he is recruited.
As Thomas labors at deciphering the Persian stela, he soon discovers that Komodo is part of the puzzle. To understand the connection, he must accept the league’s unusual venture to the Persian Empire of 473 BC. His mission is to witness and document the rich history associated with the book of Esther, but the conflict that awaits him will prove impossible to ignore.
Soon after Thomas and his time traveling companions arrive in Persia, they discover the league has been hiding a secret of its own. Now, trapped in an ancient nation at war and with time running out, Thomas must decipher both the Komodo files and the Persian stela if he ever hopes to return to the twenty-first century.

As a boy, my most pleasant memories were with my group of friends playing crokinole. Upon reflection on those early days, I came to appreciate that the game was more than just a pastime for me. Like most of the other boys in my age group when the weather was good, we raced our bikes or played hockey on a local outdoor rink. However, when the weather was poor there was no arguing as to where you’d find my group of friends and me. It was at someone’s home where the crokinole board came out along with the laughter and excitement that goes with it.
As the years went by my friends and I parted ways to take on adult lives and as a result crokinole ceased to play a role in my life. That is until a few years ago when I saw the game being played on YouTube. Suddenly, the images of my childhood friends and our amusements came back to me complete with all the emotions of friendship and joy.
Today crokinole is back in my life with a vengeance. I now play with my family and present-day friends. Sometimes when game day is over, I find myself travelling back in time when crokinole was not just a game but part of my childhood.

In “The Hunt for Komodo Cracker,” Thomas, a network security expert whose life is plagued with tragedy, is given another chance when recruited by a time ‘hacking’ (traveling) Christian organization. Though his first mission is to travel to ancient Persia and find biblical relics to prove to the world that the Christian God exists, various unexpected hurdles await him.
There are several things about this novel that I found interesting:
Firstly, the mystery aspect: For me, it is always entertaining to read a story that gets the reader guessing, trying to fit pieces of the puzzle together. This novel kept me wondering and trying to put the characters and motives together. Though I did successfully guess many plot points, there were still a couple times I was shocked and excited by the turn of events I did not see coming.
For the religious aspect of the novel, I would say it does not explore the subject in an academics fashion, even though the characters have the opportunity to see history (or a different version of history) happen before them. Though I was hoping for a bit more debate and exploration of a theological historicity aspect (especially when historical biblical names and relics were dropped), the novel takes a different path.
Many if not most characters are religious, though their faiths are treated differently. From an arrogant character who judges people for not having enough faith and blindly puts everything into God’s hands; a seemingly functioning alcoholic who is okay with massacring and taking lives in the name of God, but fornication is a serious sin; a condescending person who changes into a warm hearted, caring individual who condemns the slaughtering of people; to an inquisitive professor, whose religious curiosity is his and his acquaintance’s downfall. I found these troubled characters appealing as it made them more human, though some did come off as more than just a little preachy. While you do feel the religious tint of the book, it uses characters that are more real, rather than virtuous and purely pious chosen ones.
The novel was gripping at many points, especially part three, and so it was an enjoyable read.

Review: THE HUNT FOR KOMODO CRACKER
A riveting science fiction fantasy thriller (yes, all of these categories), this novel will keep your heart racing and the pages burning as the story proceeds from Montreal to a clandestine subterranean installation to the Middle East. Interweaving ancient history and a classic trope of science fiction--the question of time travel. THE HUNT FOR KOMODO CRACKER also delves into metaphysics, spirituality, and religion, as well as a very powerful, very wealthy and entrenched, secret society.
Thomas Faraday, computer security expert and lifelong amateur historian, is not quite the textbook definition of a feckless hero; however, he does seem to be a man maneuvered by forces of destiny beyond his control. Flawed, he is nonetheless quite brilliant, dedicated, and deeply experiences his emotions.

If you are seeking a Great Time Travel Science fiction book, then look no further than The Hunt for the Komodo Cracker. It grabs your attention right off the bat, taking you down a cerebral rabbit hole into ancient Persia. Thomas Faraday struggles on his journey to thwart the sinister plot. I very much enjoyed his character, watching him develop through his struggle and a gut wrenching betrayal ( but I won't post any spoilers about what happens).
This book is a great amalgamation of modern day technology with ancient cultures. I definitely would recommend this to my friends who read sci-fi.

Lots of action, suspense, and drama. It grabbed my attention early and kept it all the way through. They spent years preparing for the journey back to ancient Persia, but when they got there, that ancient civilization held some surprises. To achieve their goals, they need to figure out who they can trust, and how to translate their present-day computer security knowledge into strategies to make it through alive. I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I received this book free with the intention to review, this didn't effect my opinion of the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The beginning is a little slow but the excitement picks right up and stays there for the rest of the book! The time travel was explained well but not too much and I loved the characters especially Anna. Reading this book gave me a whole new perspective of the time period and I enjoyed the interactions with the people of the period. I cannot say enough good things about this book! Everyone should read this book!

Exciting Time Travel adventure with more than one twist. Thomas Faraday, the main character, it definitely not a typical Hero. But he has to grow or get lost in history. A page turner per excellence.
