Like with all Grimm's Fairy Tales, this retelling explored some timeless themes and morality. In this story your kids will learn about how important kindness, empathy, and family values are. By comparison, this is definitely not as exciting as modern day children's books but very wholesome. My daughter and I enjoyed the art and sweet animals. She always likes when I lend a different voice to the characters. My favorite was making the dwarf's voice sound gravelly and jarring lol. Good read.
This was a cute story, some parts were a little disturbing for my grown-up mind (like the bear asking the two little girls when they were horse-playing with the bear if they would be so rough with their lovers? WTF? and in the end ****SPOILER ALERT**** the bear turns out to be a Prince (with a full beard who met Snow White when she was a pre-teen or a teen and end up marrying her when she finally grows up while Rose Red marries the prince's brother). Like I said, cute story for a little kid, but as an adult, I think I kind read too much into it but the book became more unintentionally entertaining reading between the lines.
In this book Snow White has a sister named Rose Red. They live in the forrest with their widowed mother and befriend a talking bear that they help against the evil little dwarf. You find out at the end of the book that the Prince was turned into the bear because of an evil spell put on him by the dwarf. The spell is broken when the dwarf dies. Snow White marries the Prince and her sister marries the Prince's brother. This is another fractured fairy tale that take a unique spin on a classic.
